GT4 WRS Week 14: "Italian Golf Course"

Hello everyone, welcome to week 14 of the GT4 WRS! Let's try a bit of Tarmac Rally with a fun little hot hatch. If you like lift-throttle oversteer, this weeks for you!


Arcade Mode:
Time Trial / City Courses

Track :
Costa di Amalfi (Forward)

Arcade Car:
Volkswagen Golf IV R32 '03

Race Settings:​

Quick Tune up, +20% HP, -10% Weight (285 HP, 1314kg)
Tires: Sports (Any combination of Soft, Medium, or Hard)
Driver's Choice of TCS and ASM
Driver's choice of AT or MT.

Rules:


Only discuss "T" times!

Clean OLR Standards:
No wall touching!
No wall touching!
Did I mention no wall touching whatsoever?!
The enitire course is considered part of the track, sidewalks and all! Just stay off the walls!
No hybrids
No Cheating of any kind
Save your best "ghost" replay
Submit the time listed in replay file name

Time Verification:
-The division 1 winner each week will be required to submit with verification.
-All divisions of racers are subject to a request of time verification, however, this does not mean all racers will be required to submit verification for each race.
-Once a request for the verification of a time has been made the racer in question must comply.
-Any request of verification must addressed by the racer in question with in 3 days of the request. Arrangements must be made for the replay to be verified within a resonable time period, or the time in question will be removed from the WRS results and/or GTPlanet Times Database.

Deadline: Before Tuesday, July 19th, 8:00am CST
No times will be accepted after Tuesday 8:00am CST = Tuesday 1:00pm GMT

I actually haven't bought one single Volkswagen in GT mode, so I have no experience from VW's in GT4...

Yep.

BTW, I did 3 laps and had a T3 of 1'44.0 if that means anything. I'm sure there's a ton of time to be taken off since I wasn't trying too hard...

Great track CFM, and again a completly different car to makes us more complete racers!

And I fear BenW will be right, the slow corners are always a big divider of the field (and you guessed it, I wont be in the faster part of that field....)

@ Bleurabbit : How did Hurricane Dennis treat you inthe end? You and your family/belongings all ok there in the South my friend?

HaHa! yes it is, but you wouldn't know it! lol

A better choice for the car would have been the car you win for doing this race in the special conditions hall ie Toyota rally raid car!

At least that would give a better analogue to the WRC 'Med' tarmac races!
Too much speed on tight roads with a bloody big drop off if you get it wrong! lol

I stumbled across this VW when I was futzing around on El Capitan last week. I thought it was a hoot to drive and would fit well with this track, so there you go. Hope you all like it, but I'm sure there will be some dissenters as usual.

Did not know a Golf can be so heavy ! Even with -10% weight it's still 1314kg ! Crazy

Gonna be difficult keeping it off the walls on this one, but at least we can drive anywhere except for some wall-riding ...

Yes, all is well. The center went more east than expected. I stayed at my parents house (which was closer to the center). We got the west eye-wall so we still got the 90+ MPH winds. My house probably saw no more than 50 MPH. It was scary, but exciting at the same time. We have pics and videos. I'll find a place outside of the WRS to post them.

Ok, car's not too bad....especially with soft fronts/med rears.

All is nearly forgiven CFM matie! lol

Tentative splits after two or three laps with NO hand-brake usage at all

Not Brill but a start!

Mite try dusting off the DS2 for this one, it's really hard to get round the final two corners with 900 deg on, and i can't get used to the 300 deg setting. So thumbs will get a work-out for a change.........maybe!

Cool choice, the R32 is one of the cars I said I'd buy before I got GT4 but never got around to trying. It's quite heavy and not too powerful, but it seems to handle quite sweetly. Not too much understeer. I suppose everyone who's run this track to win the Toyota Rally Raid car will have an advantage this week

edit: First lap out, pretty scruffy but clean

edit2: Just took roughly 2.4 seconds out of the lap time but I tapped a wall slightly. Really enjoying this one...

WOOO! Thanks for this combo, CFM! I won't be fast, but it's going to be fun, fun, fun!

I expected a lot more understeer from driving the HPA R32 before and what I've read and seen about the stock R32. But this isn't bad at all.

First splits are:
T1 - 0'42.269
T2 - 1'08.513
T3 - 1'44.228

what? oh god just now i realized that is not the HPA, its the stock R32...

damm, city runners, i hate weak (slow) cars...

of course, compared to what gt has to offer, in my real life, i would be amazed with a R32

I don't particularly like this track...
The reason probably being that I never raced on it.

I hope it will grow on me enough to obtain a good result.

I brushed the wall on like 6 of those laps at some point or another, I dont like really tight, technical courses like this, and the car seems a little slow for the amount of power it has when fully tuned, but i'm sure it wil start to grow on me.... fingers crossed.

Oh, and btw again LUXY!!! I DONT USE A DS2!!! CHECK MY SIG!!!

Love the choice of car. I'm not thrilled with the track though - too tight for my liking.
