GT4 WRS Week 55 : "Deep Blue"

You have to be going quite fast to get him there...[more than quite, you need at least a T1 of under 31.1].

I guess that's my problem -- I'm always getting a T1 of about 31.2xxx on the first lap...

But I can't draft anyone, except the 5th-place car. The 4th-place car is too close to me when I come around the corner -- I have to pass him immediately after the 1st corner, there's no room to draft him at all... I can draft the 3rd-place car for a bit, right around T1, but that's it... The 2nd place car is too far ahead to draft, and by the time I'm catching up to him, he's slamming on his brakes to take the double-apex corner... I go flying past him and the lead car, hit my brakes and take the first apex, then the lead car pops me in the back end.

So I just need to figure out how to get through T1 in 31.0 (or fewer) seconds.

^^ you can't really draft the black car, so draft the red car until you get too close and pass him on the outside. You might not get much of a draft for the 3rd place silver car, but try to draft all the way after the kink...If you are extremely fast, you might be able to pass him before the corner.

It seems like your main problem is the turn before T1, because you say the white WRX is too far ahead afterwards.

Aids 0/3/1 just to help with the build-in understeer & to take the edge off wheelspin ......... DONT JUDGE ME!!!!!

I'm far too slow to be judging anyone , this is the first week (in the four WRS races I've done) that I've not used any aids , I normally use TCS at least. I started with Holl01's settings (props due 👍 ) which I tweaked slightly then changed the gearing to 8 on the auto setting and a 4.800 final drive, (runs out of steam right at the end of the main straights but gives better acceleration IMHO). I'm also using the 1.5 way LSD, can't remember who suggested this in a previous post but it works for me.

Probably a bit late in the day to start posting set up tips but if you've got any sense you won't take any notice anyway.

If we were not allowed aids it would say so in the rules, if that's what you're comfortable with go with it.

Never to judge that here! Driving aids when racing for times is useful when you know that you might lose control somehow by going too fast or not following the lane perfectly. It's like electronic systems present on today's cars. In GT4, though, it's entirely to your choice!

I've been passing the 5th-place car on the INSIDE this whole time... Passing him on the outside changes the line completely! It works SO much better! I'm getting a lot closer to being able to do this, I think.

Now I just have to figure out how to make the car stick better -- my car doesn't handle nearly as well as yours seems to. I can't take some of the turns your taking, at the speed you're taking them... Gotta figure that one out.

Actually the settings are exactly the same as holl's.
Did you upgrade everything (except turbo, na tune, wing, and other stuff not allowed)? Do you have aids off? Sport Soft tires? Oh, if you did or were thinking about it, DONT put a rollcage on...if you did, buy a new car immediatly, you're only hurting yourself if you equipped a rollcage (chassis refresh is good, rollcage= BAD). Just making sure.

As far as I know, I have the correct car and it's parts are legal, and you have the replay now to vouch for that. If something seems, odd, please tell me, because I don't think I should be going as fast as I did in the replay, something has to be wrong for me to beat holl on a lap (unless slamming my head repeatedly on a desk after messing up a test jarred a nerve in my brain that made me an amazing driver).

Wing: My car has the stock wing, unless I'm utterly blind
Nitrous: Look for the red nitrous bar, but I know it's not there

Nope, the 1-lap-replay you sent is totally clean.

I did have a roll-cage, and bought a new car yesterday after I found out about the roll-cage problems. It immediately improved my best total-time by 5 seconds.

I'm thinking that I'm just not taking the right lines on these turns... I'm close, but not close enough, to your driving style... And I've "tweaked" Holl01's settings just a bit, which may have been a bad idea. (I am using a lower gear-setting than you are -- Auto 8 with the default final-gear ratio. Seems to accelerate better... And I've made a few LSD changes and a couple minor suspension changes -- I'll go back to exactly his settings and see if I can't do better.)

One thing I don't understand, when he lists the bound/rebound for the shocks, he's listing them like this:

Does that mean 5 on bound and rebound in the front and 7 on bound and rebound in the rear? Or does that mean 5 bound and 7 rebound in the front and 5 bound and 7 rebound in the rear? I've assumed the first...

I'll just keep plugging away at it. One of these days I'll get it right...

He means like this:

Bound: front 5, rear 7
Rebound: front 5, rear 7

Just like the suspension setup order, basically like filling in the blanks (sort of)

I remember my gear ratios are a bit different, not much though:
I used his same gears, but bumped gears 3 and 4 up about half the length of the bar (so around 3/4s)

EDIT: Not one of these days....more like today lol, since you're also in Georgia, you won't have a long time to get a session in after school (unless you're home schooled).

EDIT2: make sure your settings are identical to his, that's what I used (except the gears) so change the LSD and suspension back...different yes, but once you get used to it, it's like flying...

There is just enough room to make it... Two wheels might touch the grass-crete for a small bit, but not enough to matter.

The 5th place car is the red car (you know that), I (and Laurence) are drafting him and passing him on the outside rather than inside. There is the large asphalt skirt to the outside until it narrows going down the hill after the start/finish line
And on the legality of it, I'm assuming no, just in case

K I need to know from someone high up if the "grass crete" is ok....I just pulled an insane lap (if it's legal, you will see what I mean), and I want to know. If it is, then I will submit that lap...if it's not, then back to more and more laps

EDIT: Times submitted...it's good to send a submission pm again (haven't sent one since Week 48, after I got chewed out).

All I can do is hope...and quiver nervously as to what everyone else got . I don't need to know if the "grass crete" is ok now, I pulled a better set without using it. (If it is legal, then I just kept all four tires on the track the entire race...yay...unlike 47 )

what a dork i am. wasted my win percentage on many many restarts because of ai contact. start lineup was not influenced by pre-changing the car setup (turbo, r5 tires etc.). so i managed only one (1) clean pass. i gave up so submitted my time to good ol' cyril.
again cant wait for 56. if ai is involved please let it be way ahead or behind

About the grass-crete, it looks like everybody considered it's off track in this thread. I would have allowed it personally, but if everybody took care not to ride it, then let it be off-track.
