Bugger-off! :D

They keep the brakes cool!

Plus they're colour coded too.

Neil

I like 'em!

Think I put them on nearly all my cars in GT mode. Strange, must be cos they look like bike wheels. :)

Neil

It can't be why you're faster Clemi, I'm using the same ones!

OK Mister Weary, still new to all this stuff so I thought I'd better check. Didn't want to be the cause of this weeks results turning out like last weeks. :nervous: :)

Edit: New times, (squeeky clean this time 👍).

T1 0'31.063
T2 1'02.015 (ballsed up the braking and got all squirrelly for turn b4 T2) :nervous:
FL 1'30.542

T1 0'24.604
T2 0'54.638
FL 1'2x.xxx

T1 0'24.371
T2 0'54.391
FL 1'22.449

Still think I've got a lot more in this one though? Watch this space! :)

Edit 2: Just done a sub 1'20, shame I'd already :censored:ed up the first lap!! :banghead:

White Lancer? What's a white Lancer doing in an all-Subaru event? Perhaps you're doing the wrong race, and that's why you're going so fast?

Oops...I meant a white WRX, and yes I do have the right race

Clemi_uk
Was just wondering.... am i the only racer venturing out that far? :odd:
Possibly, but I've managed to stay off the "grass-crete". Got a bit close here though:

I drove the entire length of the "concrete slab" like that...that's why I want someone to check my replay, to make sure I didn't miss anything

MisterWeary

Yeah I was also wondering about that....hopefully he means under 1'21.000, because my absolute fastest lap was a 1'20.7xx, only pulled it once (of course I screwed up just a few turns later).

Mini power!

EDIT: Realized a few interesting things about this week:
holl01's first victory came on Week 4, a 3 lap reverse race on Deep Forest
ballstothewall was promoted to Div 2 on Week 4 as well

Sum more & possibly final splits for the board...

Lap #1:
0'30.685
1'00.101
1'28.086

Lap #2:
0'24.110
0'53.398
1'2x.xxx

Lap #3:
0'24.122
0'53.518
1'21.471 :banghead:

For sum strange reason my 3rd lap is always slower than my 2nd:yuck: & its
not tyre wear cause during lap3 they glow nice & green:boggled:

Maybe can squeeze in another .2 but thats it:)

Regarding the "grasscrete" if it turns out that those areas are fair game i'll post those splits 2morrow

Good night & good luck:sly:

^^ nice splits 👍 ....now I have to try to squeeze more out of my race (not sure if I will be able to though)

I guess it will come down to Tuesday then (actually Monday for me, I don't have time to get a session in Tuesday before the results are posted)

Good luck Clemi

If your 3rd lap is slower, then you shouldn't be posting that time... It said 1st lap and fastest lap... ;)

fortunately, i had a copy of the 22b in my garage from ages ago. (as any car-guy should)
unfortunately, i'd gotten it before i knew the rollcage breaks cars.
So it was a bit slidey and i had to fight massive understeer.. even after softening the suspension down to 4/6 on the springs, i still was loosing a ton of time in turn 1. (never saw a lower t1 time than 23.9)
Best lap i could scrounge up was a 1'21.212
total time submitted.
IIRC- T2 times were somthing like:
1'00.1
53.7
53.5

OH 🤬 ...:ouch: .. well too late now cause if i edit my post now every1 will know my total race time.

Verry sorry!!!! ..guess that just make my splits that little better:sly:

The roll-cage breaks cars? Since when? I've got roll-cages in every one of my cars, because I was told it stiffens the body up and makes it handle better! Perhaps that's why I'm so much worse in GT Mode than I am in arcade mode?

What about the "Rigidity Refresher?" Does that ruin a car also? Any car you buy in the used-car lot is going to (supposedly) need a regidity-refresher. Or should I avoid that too?

I need a new car, apparently! Or a way to uninstall the roll-cage from my current car... Anyone know if that's at all possible? Or is all this roll-cage business just a vicious rumor?

what's with all the babble about car buying?
i figured you guys would be the top 20 gt cracks in the universe.
and now you still need to buy this car?
this means not everybody felt the itch to obtain all cars as i did ...
:) :) :)
anyways, i took my suby to the track. even before i copied holl01's settings i managed 1 (one) clean set of 3 laps. this continuous restarting kills my win rate and it was already low as it was (once i was bad in gt4, even worse than now). i managed (admitting shily)
32.673 - 1.05.168 - 1.36.234
26.788 - 58.517 - 1.28.457
26.774 - 58.500 - 1.2x.xxx
so that puts me in my spot on the board where i belong - right at the botttom.

Well, I bought a new one... (I was in Week 56, so I had to get to week 71, which was "only" 105 sets of wheels. :)) Didn't put the roll-cage in it this time. And immediately shaved 5 seconds off my best total time, and got my fastest lap ever! But it's still 1'23.1xx, so I've got to find 2 more seconds somewhere... Hmmm... But obviously the roll-cage was causing me problems, so at least that's fixed now.

At least the passing of the cars on the 1st lap kind of resembles what CoolGeekz posted, so now I can give that a try. It's completely different from the AI pattern I was getting with the old car, in which I had to pass the lead car on the corner right after T2 (by out-braking him, and hoping he didn't turn in and hit me, which he seems to like to do 8 times out of 10.)

And the A-Spec points dropped from 11 to 10, so I guess the game is recognizing that I now have a better car...

Now you guys ARE using Sports Soft tires, are you not? Not Racing tires of any sort, right? I just don't see two more seconds in there with these Sport Soft tires... But I'll keep on trying... ;)

This is why I don't like GT Mode races, I may be right near the limit in my roll-caged car but may also have an automatic disadvantage because of it...anyway...I might see if I can get a new 22b.

Board Updated

might explain why i am so slow this week:P, or maybe i just suck at driving this car... time submitted

Roll cages don't break cars, in some it does make them handle slightly worse (or at least harder to get to handle the way you want) due to the added rigidity.
The refresh is definately not detrimental, all it does is straighten the chassis out again after it's bent by all the cornering and braking. It's a must, or you're gonna be driving a twisted car and find it handle like a drunk pig, instead of just a pig!

Double Apex: out brake the silver lead car and stay in 4th for the entire corner. Hit the first apex, then swing out to the left edge, then apex again.

HOW THE 🤬 DO YOU PASS THE LEAD CAR HERE? Every single time I pass him, he pops me in the back end. EVERY SINGLE TIME! :banghead: It's really pissing me off! But if I don't pass him here, I'll pop him in the back end when approaching T2. It just SUCKS that the damn AI is BLIND!

If that idiot AI driver bumping me didn't make it a dirty race, I'd have a 1'30.8xx as my first lap time and a 1'22.3xx as my best lap time! ARRRGH!!

Well I just bought a new 22B and DIDN'T install the roll cage and I beat my old time quite quickly with relatively bad T1 times. It could be because I've worked out T1 - T2 a bit better but it certainly is odd :odd:

As for overtaking the lead car before the double right, if you don't get to T1 at or below 30.950 I don't think it's possible to take him cleanly there 👍

usually the roll cage is a good thing with racing cars... with normal cars, you have to test it, because sometimes it is better... does not look to be the case here, but sometimes it is better even with a road car...

Well I have been doing it like this:

Pass 5th in the draft B4 1st corner,
drift into 1 st corner and pass 4th place B4 second corner/kink,
draft 3rd and pass on the brakes into 3rd corner,
draft up to T1, and pass 2nd place between car and barrier at apex of the next kink,
down to 3rd for the 1st of the double right, drift out left and get a later apex to the 2nd right, full throttle!
Hit 4th gear and full throttle as you go over the hill, as 1st place heads left to get an apex into the tunnel, keep as far to the right as you can and still make the kink, and blast straight past him.

Easy as that!

Neil

Great, so... I have the choice of posting my fastest time to Flat-O and wait for this week challenge or buy another 22B and crank it up, without the stiff cage. Hmm...

Oh hey there, StevenDeRuig. Nice to see another Div3 joining the challenge! :D

Well, I lied!

Sorry, re-ran the race and knocked 2 seconds off my leaderboard total with these absolutely final splits.

Had everything from 10pt to 17pt races today, wierd! Every single re-start was either a different line-up, or the same line-up with different power for the AI.
Sometimes wasn't even able to get past the 5th place car B4 the first turn!

What the hell? Done now, off to Monaco!

It happened to me once, I think it got to 19 or 29 pts even. I assumed it was related to used oil, since I had about 30 hp missing by then. For some reason, restarting races instead of completing them used more of the oil than expected.

Sub 1'20 ?!?

Sorry did I forget to mention that I was drafting all the way along the start finish straight? :sly: I did say I'd messed up the first lap. :)

The quickest I've got into first place is into the right hander at the bottom of the hill. It all depends which car set I'm up against though.

I usually pass the first car as we go over the crest before the first corner, slide through first turn in 5th keeping a tight line on the exit to pass for fourth, draft and then outbrake the next car into the right at the top of the hill for third, mid fourth gear just touching the grass with the inside wheels to drag the car round, keep a tight line through the left curve over T1 and draft second place down the hill and outbrake both second and first place cars into the first of the two right handers, Usually works, or I go crashing into the side of the first placed car and end with a couple of experimental (read unsubmittable) laps, hold fourth gear then accelerate out of the first turn and lift off for a moment as you go for the second apex, feather the throttle to keep the car on line then floor it when you spot your line (difficult to judge going this way round as you've got no advertising hoardings to aim at).

After that it's plain sailing apart from the left kink as you come out of the right hander, (I've ruined a lot of perfectly good laps by running too far over this patch of grass :banghead:). Straighten up in time to brake through the tunnel for the turn before T2, being careful not to lock the wheels over the crest as you enter the tunnel, hold onto third gear feathering the throttle again before nailing it through the tunnel then brake as you cross the line for T2, hold third again then it's a case of lifting off slightly as you turn in for the next couple of turns, flat out through the last right hand kink then brake hard as you cross the shadow line across the track, (yes, I know you can't use shadows as braking points in RL but they don't move in GT4), hold onto third gear for the final hairpin then nail it down the straight.👍

That's how I do it, there's probably much faster ways of doing it but I actually started to get slower again last night, even after changing the oil!

Casio
My Set-Up If anyone is interested (Not Likely, but anyway)
Well a bit late but here's my current setting, most borrowed from Holl01 with few tweaks & Casio's
VCD setting made a HUGE difference (also tweaked)..

9.6/8.2
92/92
5/7
5/7
2.5/1.3
0/0
5/4

LSD everything on 5
VCD on 38
Gears on Auto 10 then adjust 4th to 1.061 & 5th to 0.864

Now the part i'm bit ashamed of...:P
Aids 0/3/1 just to help with the build-in understeer & to take the edge off wheelspin ......... DONT JUDGE ME!!!!!:guilty:

Calm down a bit (actually it's ok, I'm not exactly happy because of this months GTPDC, in which the results seemed to be tied to horsepower [and they were, 1st had the highest [with NOS!...cheaters], last had the lowest [me] even though I link everything and more than the high hp guys...hp went in order of the results :grumpy: )

You have to be going quite fast to get him there...[more than quite, you need at least a T1 of under 31.1].

First corner: brake hard and drift through the corner, passing the black car well before the kink. Draft the silver car immediatly after.
After kink: out brake the silver car and pass it, stay to the inside of the corner in 4th gear.
After coming into the tunnel (or during the turn, depending on how fast you are), draft the white WRX [not lancer :) ] as far as you can, passing him just after T1.
Then pull into the draft of the silver lead car (listen for wind...if you hear none at all, you have the draft) and draft even while he brakes, then brake late and dive inside, accelerating out and just touching the "grass crete" then stay on the inside of the next corner.

That should help :)

EDIT: had a 1.5 hour session last night, absolutely nothing! (except getting in trouble with my parents for staying up too long)...I will have one more go tonight, then I will submit my time before I go to bed (around 10 east us, 3 am gmt)...lets hope I can pull better laps, or Clemi has me :scared:

You wouldn't need any aids at all, if you set the VCD to a lower number... That VCD set to 38 makes the understeer worse, in my opinion, because it's sending too much power to the front wheels. I've got mine set on 10... With the VCD set much higher than that, it handles more like a front-wheel-drive car, which means more understeer.

And the traction control? Why do you need that at all? This car won't spin it's wheels unless you hit something, or keep the throttle to the floor when you're going over the crest of a hill at a high speed.

But I'm not judging you :) Whatever works to get your arse around the track as fast as you can, that's what you should use of course.
