:: GT4 WRS Week 85 ::
This week it's the battle of the Japanese 4WD rockets. Subaru Impreza WRX vs Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. New or Used, provided it's not a rally car, you can choose the Evo or WRX you like. Be sure not to give it more than 350hp, a wing or NOS...but other than that, you can do whatever you like with your pocket rocket. You can see the make I'm going with this week...which will you choose?

Here's my first splits. I don't think I'm using the best car or anything but I liked the idea of throwing a wagon around with vigour :D (She was a real pain to find in the used car lot too!)

T1: 0`32.574
T2: 1`18.198

well that's gonna be an easy car choice for me. great setup colby! love to pick cars and gt mode as well as you might know. track, race line and chassis setup are gonna be nice to figure out tho i don't care much for all those walls ...

I'm excited for this. Gotta go with the WRX though and finally a race where set-up is a factor, excellent.

It's an hard choice between three favourites to me:

  • My trusty Mitsubishi Lancer VII GT-A, which I still have from the beginning of the game
  • One of the lovely 22B STI or Prodrive Style Specials I have from a couple of weeks ago
  • My Super-Wagon STI (Colby stole my idea)

But I think I'll go with a Spec-C or MR/RS Evo in the end...

Lovely idea, Colby!

MK1
Oh damn! The 22B isn't WRX :(

Yeah, Colby - we need to know exactly what is classified as an eligible Subie:

  • All Impreza-engined (Including Legacy, not including the 22B)
  • All with "Impreza" in the name (WRX, STI, Coupes, 22B, Wagons)
  • Only those with "WRX"
  • Only those with "STI"

I prefer the first-gen ones (Like the one in your picture) only, but that's just me. I'd do it only between those and the V/VI Evos, if it was up to me...

EDIT: First notes:

Evo I-III are the lightest, but no AYC. VI RS (And T.M.E) are second, but they're without AYC, too.
Quite a few Subies reach sub-1100KG weight, but only 5 Evos (I-III, VI RS - none with AYC)

EDIT 2: My Evo II now has 355HP at the garage, 350 at the replay:
  • Sports Exhaust
  • Stg. 1 Turbo
  • Racing (Large) Intercooler
  • Oil Change
  • Engine Balancing
And weights 1062KG - the lightest competitor. 400Nm of Torque, no AYC.

Currently looking at an Evo VI (6) RS T.M.E, got it configured to 355/350HP (Garage/Replay), too...

EDIT 3: Splits for the Evo VI RS T.M.E:
0'33.101
1'20.852

Suspension:
8.8/13.7
102/94
3/6 (Original suspension Dampers)
2.2/2.6
0/0
2/5
LSD:
5-5-5
5-20-15
Gears:
Tranny-tricked to 4.720. If you're faster into the straight than me, lower the number, it gets tight at the end.
Brake-Balance: 5/4

OK, I get it. Everyone likes to throw cars around except me. :yuck:

What I meant in week 84 was that it just didn't feel realistic enough throwing the vette around. I made a suggestion a while back that we should use the Imprezza Rally car on a rally track. There's a ton of "throwing the car around" there but it makes sense. I love that. You can get it floating over the dirt and flying through the air, but with grace...

Anyway, this sounds like a fun combo, I am bummed I have to go out into the world to work, away from my console all week :indiff:

Well my 22B is still far from having the right settings but here's my first splits.

T1: 0'33.506
T2: 1'21.471

First off, great pick for a race. 👍

However, I've gotta ask, why are we going with "Replay screen" HP and not the garage HP or settings screen HP?

Replay HP figures are all kinds of screwy and inconsistant from car to car. Some cars come out with only a slight difference between replay hp and real hp while others show as much as 20hp difference (this is for the cars in the game in general).

So with that in mind, are we really going with replay HP?
In any case, looks like a fun race.

Will be interesting to see if the Evo 8 RS wins or the Suby 22b (and if the 22b isn't allowed then there is no contest... the RS evo is just too light weight compared to everything else).

Well until I hear about the HP limit situation,
-

(still looks like an awesome pick, thanks for the fun in advance!)

Well, Hugo found out that the Evo VIII MR GSR takes upto 380HP at the garage - with 348 at the replay. My Evo II and VI took 355 to show 350 at the replay.

However, you can't control Oil-changes, and testing out each car for the corrent replay-power will be tough for the replay-checkers...

Will be interesting to see if the Evo 8 RS wins or the Suby 22b (and if the 22b isn't allowed then there is no contest... the RS evo is just too light weight compared to everything else).

Not really. Many Subies weight below 1100KG, which is lighter than the VIII RS...

Indeed, that's why I was hoping Colby would come in and change that figure to be "settings screen HP" like we usually use (atleast I thought that was the standard).

I did some testing of my own and saw this...
Subby '02: (settings HP -> Replay HP)
353 -> 331 (-22)
371 -> 348 (-23)
381 -> 357 (-24)

Evo 8 RS:
359 -> 337 (-22)
376 -> 353 (-23)
387 -> 363 (-24)

Those show similar differences but that's still leaving too much room (IMO) for differences between other cars (such as the Evo 6 vs Evo 8 mentioned by Gingiba ala hugo's testing).

With that in mind I seriously suggest a change to "Setting Screen HP Display."
Of course, that's just my opinion and nothing more. :)

None the less, I would like to hear about what's going to be done (if anything) before too long.

Thanks in advance (again),
-

i think that as soon as colby has woken up (he usually beds immediately after upping results and the new week) he'll read this and decides what to do. i am with kent on this one: go to garage hp figures (same 350 or diff) and allow the 22b to make it an even challenge or all will jump to the evo 8.

The problem is there is no way to check the settings screen in the replay. I'm not saying someone would try to cheat but this is the only way to check the numbers

You forgot one thing:
Replay-checking. It'll be hell for Colby and the checkers, going through a list, checking if it's the right power for the right car - and that's without calculating oil, which is not in the replay... It'll also add confusion to the racers, won't it? The 22B and Spec C are tough enough for the Evo 8 RS.
On another note, I found the formula: Used cars have less "Margin" betweent he garage figure and the replay-stats.

New splits:
0'33.350
1'20.096

Spent some time perfecting my settings. Still nothing perfect, and I didn't even touch AYC :mischievous:
Will post them later.

Whoa! That's a really fantastic combo, Colby! After all misunderstoods I can say that it's 👍 !!!
But let's find out what cars are legal and this power-checking problems. Can you please post legal car list?
And what we will do with power differs??

Ok, I made a small map of the circuit with corner-numbers...

seattle1qzit7.jpg

  1. Double-left Hairpin, First Corner
  2. Left, requires braking. 2.5 is not enough to be a corner.
  3. After-jumps. 3.5 is a semi-corner, barely any braking needed
  4. Double lefts. Take the inside, in order to stay off the walls.
  5. Hairpin into the straight
  6. High-speed Supersweeper :sly:. Watch out if the car understeers...
  7. After-straight
  8. Right-Left chicane ("Bump Part I")
  9. Left-Right chicane ("Bump Part II")
  10. Semi-hairpin.
  11. Final Chicane

Nice combo Colby...Looks like there'll be a personal battle in my household too...Taffie wants the Evo so I'll be using the Scooby. :D

Be back later with some split times. 👍

Darren.

Man I am frustrated with the reputation system. :irked:
Someone please give Gingiba rep for me.
I've done it recently and can't do it again but if there is a such thing as a quality post, it has to be a real world google map being highlighted to show the seattle race track from GT. 👍
Good job G.

Regarding the race and all that stuff, I've thought a bit more about it... It may be possible that Weary did the replay screen because he wanted to allow us more than 350 hp since some of the main competitors already run 330 or so stock (making upgrades on power sort of hard to manage).

So with that being a possibility I'm patiently waiting on Weary's ruling before I start racing.

Even so, I can give you all the heads up... I'm racing with the Evo 8 RS first. It will be the fastest car based on the specs of the race. Simply put, the RS runs 1122KG!!! What even comes close to that this week besides maybe the 22b? And with the replay screen data being our guide, I doubt the used 22b will be able to match the actual power of the RS (since it will run upwards of 360hp easily while still staying under 350 in the replay).

So yeah, :sly:
RS to start for me, then maybe the '02 Impreza (cause I actually love the ugly spoiler :P ).

Till next time,
-

Thanks! The map wasn't mine, I found it on google... But I couldn't find anything better.

Well, here are some that run sub-1150KG:

Evo I GSR
Evo II GSR (Lightest Eligible: 1062)
Evo III GSR
Evo VI RS & RS T.M.E
All Evo RS's
Subies: Those
And the Subies Type III and VI also run 1062 when lightened.
However, as Hugo's testing showed, the newer, heavier cars have the advantage. Spec Cs and VIII MR GSRs were the quickest, with those approximate matches:
  • Subie 22B Vs. Evo VI RS T.M.E
  • Subies I-IV Vs. Evo I-IV
  • Subie Spec C Vs. Evo VIII MR GSR or Evo VII-VIII RS

Taffie wants the Evo so I'll be using the Scooby. :D

Traitor!
Looks like I'll be beating you this week, then. At least I'll try the hardest to do honor to the Evo... What Scooby are you driving then? (It feels weird, going from one nickname to the Subarus to the other) What will Taffie be using?

And excuse me if I'm biased, but this Shows that, even though very close, Evos are quicker - in real life, and in the game. Extremely close racing, though, so this battle-idea by Kent was really good...

Pretty much nailed that one Gin.
I went and played the game a while just looking at what was in my garage and found that the 22b vs VI tme RS seems to be very close by specs.
If both can hit the 350 mark there will be almost no difference in PWR with one car at 1071 and the other at 1079. 👍

Looks like this is going to be very interesting. :D
Also, hearing about Hugo's testing makes me interested to see the old vs new differences first hand.

With a little fiddling, all (most) cars can reach 348-350 on the replay. I'm most interested in the base-spec old Evo Vs. Subie, but they're not competitive here...
An Evo II can reach 350HP in the way I wrote on my first post here. (355 in garage)
Evo VIII MR GSR, tweaked by Hugo, managed only 348 at the replay screen, but 371 at the garage (380 makes 352), By using: Semi-race exhaust, Oil Change, Chip
Evo VI RS T.M.E can reach 350HP on the replay by reaching 355HP in the garage.

And I prefer to be called Metar, but as a mod, you've probably got too many to remember...

Looks like this is going to be very interesting. :D

He only tested the Spec C Vs. Evo VIII MR GSR so far - with 0.2 difference in laptime...

No problems, will try to remember the Metar.

About getting to 350... I know they are all capable of 350hp but I meant hitting the mark. You know what I mean, precisely 350hp not just close. :sly:

In any case, I ran the "6 RS TME" and the race is fun. 👍
Did everything to par on the settings screen 348hp/343hp(replay).
Nice little ride but I need to slap on a VCD since there's no AYC for the RS models (probably the reason for the light weight).

Times were just as I expected.
1'20.000 is about what I'm doing right now. Still some for me to grab but not all that much (as I'm a recovering from a serious GT reformation).
Anyway, I'm still looking forward to hearing what MisterWeary has to say about the replay hp vs settings hp, so I'm going to be popping in and out for a while... Till next time,
-

Wiki-power:

  • "The latter was a stripped-down club racing version that lacked power windows and seats, anti-lock brakes, a rear wiper, and had steel wheels to save approximately 155 lb (70 kg) less than the 2730 lb (1238 kg) GSR"
  • "It also came with GLX seats and 16" steel wheels as these were items that would be replaced by anyone entering the car into competition events. The RS also had wind up windows, no air conditioning-just heater, and a few extra brace bars to strengthen the chassis, one behind the front grill and the other across the boot floor. The RS also had a factory option of thinner body panels and thinner glass."

They removed it (The AYC) for those reasons:
"Competition oriented models of the Lancer Evolution do not include the AYC/SAYC system, as it is less durable and heavier than a standard mechanical LSD. Also, in the hands of a professional race driver, the benefits of SAYC are negligible."
