Toyota will have two GT5 pods at the Sydney Motor Show where you can try out the FT-86G. There will also be a 24-hour GT5 Challenge in the Show's last week, presented by Motor magazine.

Enjoy.

No links, no more info. Phone Motor and demand more info would be my suggestion. I doubt I'll make the Show so won't be trying it.

Thanks for not doing the Sydney Motor Show a few weeks earlier when I was actually in Sydney. Oh well, just a few more weeks 'til the release.

Good news, I hoped there may be some GT5 presence at the show.

The show only goes for 10 days though, so I don't know when the 'last week' will start

Be sure to take a camera guys. I won't go even if I did live in Sydney. GT5 is only weeks away.

BEST NEWS EVER!!! im actually going to the syd auto show to see the ft86 in person, ive already decided im gonna buy one the second toyota start taking orders for them..this is such a bonus to be able to play gt5 and take a virtual test drive of the ft86 aswell!

Brisbane Motor Show always gets cancelled, the AIMS is too far to travel, so I won't be going- but somebody find out more about this Motor challenge.

More info:

The Toyota stand at the Australian International Motor Show will host an around-the-clock race like no other when Motor magazine presents the 24-hour Gran Turismo® 5 Challenge.

Two teams - dubbed White and Red after Toyota's corporate colours - will compete in the virtual race, piloting the Toyota FT-86G Sports Concept car on PlayStation® 3 (PS3™), Gran Turismo 5 simulator pods.

The 24 drivers in each team will race for one hour each, tackling a virtual recreation of the famous 22.8km Nürburgring Nordschleife (northern loop).

The first two drivers will launch off the virtual starting grid at 3pm on Tuesday, 19 October, and the race will conclude at 3pm the following day.

Invited journalists and guests participating in the event include selected motoring writers, automotive and tech bloggers, and specialist gaming media. Neil Crompton from the Seven Network will start the race for Team Red.

The aggressive lines of the FT-86G were masterfully recreated by the game's developers, and its inclusion in Gran Turismo 5 offers Toyota fans a virtual interpretation of the car's racing capabilities.

Developed with assistance from Toyota's technical partner GAZOO Racing (the 'G' in FT-86G), the FT-86G Sports Concept was designed to connect with younger drivers and to promote the fun of sports-car driving.

The lap record for the physical circuit, nicknamed "The Green Hell" by F1 legend Jackie Stewart, is 6min 48sec.

Gran Turismo 5 - the latest instalment of the driving simulation franchise developed by Polyphony Digital Inc. - is due to launch in Australia on 4 November, exclusive to PlayStation 3.

I'll be going, just to get an impression of the sounds and the physics, without the youtube quality. Only a 2MP phone camera, its' supposed to be a family-outing-style day out. If there's anything new *scoffs at the idea* I'll write about it.

Off topic but still kind of on topic. Since the Toyota FT-86 is included in GT5 and now promoted in Sydney, what is the status of the Subaru 216a version?

Had a thought, has anyone been to a Toyota dealership to check if they have a pod setup like the Mercedes dealerships in Germany?

I think Parramatta Road has a bunch of big car yards? I dunno I get lost in Sydney easy.

I had a go on this yesterday. I set the fastest lap of the day, which gets me a free copy of the game.

the fastest of the show gets a limited edition PS3 and Collectors edition GT5 bundle. i was 2 secs off that which was set by "a professional racing driver", but only being able to set 1 lap, on a completely new track (Rome), it is achievable to beat him by a second or so.

I'm going back on Wednesday night to have a proper look at everything there (did a rush job on sunday) so i will have another go then.

From what I could tell, and after having just come back from the states and playing the Best Buy demo also, this build is nothing new.

Physics are improved over GT5 TT demo, and weight transfer plays a huge part in handling now. (brake while turning or out of shape and your spinning.)

I'll post more up after i have another go on wednesday.

Bah! I knew I shouldnt have cancelled my trip there because I was hung over.... usually the car shows are the same year after year. Ahwell I only live a five min walk away from the show so I might go after work tomorrow.

Nice work mate! I assume you just get a free copy of the GT5 game, and not the signature version? (which I am sure you'll be getting for the Merc comp :sly:)

Hmm.. i live litrally a 5 minute drive from where they have the motor show every year. Im going to try get there tomorrow, if im to record or get any details/info, what would people like to see?

Some pictures of the Toyota stand can be found here.

If there are new tracks/cars or if it's possible to make new rollover videos for example.

I hope, if there is a day/night change, we will see campfires and bengal firework in different colours in the neighbourhood of the track. Will be the 24h version of the Nordschleife presented or the Nordschleife only?

What a load of crap. The game doesn't even have a release date. Who wants to know anything about this garbage?

@heath_1: I do!

As I'm planning a similar event once the game is released I'm highly interested at the mechanics behind this. So if somebody gets the chance to check it out, please try to find out, how this works: LAN mode or over the Internet ... or not connected to each other at all? Are other players or AI on the track as well? Are pit stops involved? What about fuel and tires. Night and Day changes? Pretty much anything you can get :)

There are two GT pods in the background for the 2 teams with 24 drivers each, it's not really interesting to watch only 2 drivers on the ring for 24 hours...
Still, I'm hoping that there will be real day/night change as well as the dynamic weather...
