Holden is very much an Australian company. Ford is an American company with subsidiaries in Europe and Australia.
I can't stand the so-called "patriotism" among Holden fans, priding themselves on supporting the "Australian" team. Holden is a subsidiary of GM. The company might be Australian, but it's wholly-owned by the Americans.

I fixed your post.

Erm so what?

So people who pride themselves on supporting the "Australian" brand are just deluding themselves.

Anyway, if you want to discuss V8 Supercars in general, this is the place to do it. This thread is for discussing the potential for the inclusion of the Mount Panorama circuit into GT5.

What's that supposed to mean? :odd:

We quite often call the V8 Supercars "supertaxis' cause it has IMO been getting stale and alike....

the statement I made "rwd" cause the last incarnation of nissan it what was to become the v8s were gtr 4wds and alike that dominated it. the new nissan is / has to be rwd...

It is australian though regardless of who owns it.

You're an Australian and your not proud of Australia and it's achievements? I have nothing further to say to you. I think you confuse patriotism with nationalism, but that's just my opinion. Holden is an Australian company which is a subsidiary of General Motors, an American company.

So you work for carsguide.com.au then? You sure sound like the same sort of person who relishes an opportunity to stick it to the locally designed product...

Off topic:Holden is an Australian car company. As a holden fan I understand that it is a subsidiary of GM. How am I deluding myself?

On topic: I do hope that GT5 does get bathurst, or a track like Philip island etc..

GM Holden is an division of GM. It is not a separate company. You can't buy Holden shares. So no matter how many Holden fans come here and say otherwise, it's GM Holden, a part of GM. It will never be Holden Inc.

Bathurst will not be coming soon if at all. It will take too long to model. Philip Island will not come either. Not Adelaide, Gold Coast, Sandown or any other track in Australia. They will remodel old tracks not in GT5 that have been in previous GT's as part of the modeling is already done.

No, I'm just saying that the Holden fan's favourite argument, "We're more Australian than you are", holds no water.

Oh ok. In that case I agree - a Ford Falcon is, if anything, more Australian these days than a Holden Commodore.

A Holden Commodore, Holden Cruise, Ford Falcon, Ford Territory, Toyota Camry are as Australian as each other. To put it simply, they are assembled here. They do not make cars in Australia, they assemble them from parts gathered from around the world.

Um the panels, floorpan are stamped in Geelong. The engine is cast and built in Geelong. The parts are then trucked up the highway to Broadmeadows and assembled there.
Sure some of the ancillaries are imported and sourced for elsewhere, the glass for example was made at Pilkintons in Geelong but is no longer, but the majority of the Falcon and Territory are manufactured here.

Cheers Shaun.

Since when does it stop Holden from being an Australian icon just because its owned by GM?

Funny I dont recall there being a Holden dealership overseas.

Also, V8 SuperSameCarRacing is about to become V8 SuperNASCAR. They will be the exact same cars except the cosmetics. So a Nissan, Hyundai, Proton or a Great Wall will have the same chance as Holden or Ford. It will become even more irrelevant.
Wrong. The main thing COTF does is make a control chassis for all the cars on the grid. The bodies are done exactly the same as now and so are the engines. Cars are made equal in the wind tunnel and with engine restrictors. Each will still have their own little advantages and disadvantage. This is not going to be like NASCAR at all.
The New Generation Of V8 Supercars
A Commodore will still have the DNA of a Commodore, ditto for a Falcon or any other type of car that joins in. The doors will still open and close, the panels are the same shape and style of the road car, and the badges are real, too!

---------

A manufacturer wanting to join the V8 Supercars Championship could even come along with their own V8 engine, used under a parity system to ensure it's on par with the current units in the class, or use a 'category' engine if they wish to go with already-established technology.

We'll see about that my friend. Theoretically, your argument makes sense, but eventually i'm sure GT will end up with Bathurst and maybe a few of the other great Australian tracks.

Commodore and Falcon are designed and built in Australia. While they may use parts from elsewhere, send they're profits elsewhere and show a worldwide badge but they are Australian made. In my opinion anyway...

Then my Shogun bicycle is made here because the guy at the bike shop assembled it?

Unfortunately, the rules in Australia are so lame that assembling something here qualifies it to be called Australian. I know that some of the parts for all 3 manufacturers are made here. But it would be less than 30%.

GM Holden, as it likes to be known, is not a separate company. GM dictates what and how many of each car it can put up for sale. If GM wants to bring in a Chevy Malibu, then slowly remove the Commodore, GM Holden has to do it. If GM wants to bring in the Opel Astra to undercut the Cruise, then GM Holden will do that too. GM Holden is no more or less Australian than Ford.

the real debate is, when will this thread get back on topic?
you tell me.

I think no chance of getting back ontopic unless people tweet @kaz_yamauchi and get a confirmation reply for yah or nah.

BUT I wonder if with enough patiaince and alike you could have something in the creator I assume not the 100% recreation but something 50% maybe

You'd need a lot of patience. A big part of Bathurst's design rests with the shape of the land it is build on. When you're going up through the Cutting to Reid, Sulman and McPhillamy Park, you're actually following a ridgeline in the mountains. And when you're coming back down through the Dipper and the Esses to Forrest's Elbow, the circuit is actually built along a spur; although there is a sheer drop to your left, there's also a second (though less steep) drop out to your right. The circuit's design is only really possible because of this.

Someone just tweet Kaz a picture of Bathurst and the Winfield R32 GTR, that should help get it over the line ;)

.... And the JPS BMW, the Sierra's, the Jags, the Valiants, the Monaro's, Toranas, Falcons, Commodores, Mustangs, Carollas etc.

But it might take a Skyline to get it over the line.

Do you think Polyphony can perfectly model all the beer fueled Aussie supporters track side.

Ben 'Kelso' Kelly needs to be added to the rosta of B Spec driver models.
