gt5 clutch and H gearbox?

Hello there, I just entered the GT drifting world recently.. I am currently playing gt3 & gt4.

Playstation 3 is available in Portugal for about 2/3 months now, and I heard the rumour that GT5 was going to give us the possibility to play with a clutch and an H gearbox, since I own a Logitech G25 that would certainly get me to buy a PS3!!

Can u guys tell me if that´s really truth? What do you know about that?

over´n´out!

We have no facts ,but i see no reason why g25 would not be supported in gt5. G25 works completely(clutch+GB) with nfs carbon on ps3. Current version of gthd only supports weakly ffb and no shifter or clutch. But since gt5 comes around 2008 ,you have plenty of time to consider your purchase. Currently i have no intrest in PS3s racing games.(too arcade for me)

We only know this:

Did you notice that the clutch pedal has been taken off the clutch ( in above picture). Might be getting in the way of brake pedal. I have this wheel and do hit the clutch for brake a lot. The only real problem I have with the wheel is that it turns car wheels too much and causes the car to start sliding.

I've used a G25 on GTHD and the throttle indicator momentarily changes from white to red when changing gear. This would indicate to me that while the clutch has not been enabled in GTHD it at least knows about it.

I would guess that GT5 will use all of the G25's capabilities (clutch and 6 speed shifter), but as has been said, we have no official confirmation yet.

No there isn't a 7 speed shifter. You might be able to use the sequence mode for the 7 speed, as it works with the F1 car in GT4 that way. Not sure how the clutch would react.

Which would also work for other 7-speed cars (Formula GT, for instance) and the 8-speed cars (Nike One, Nissan Skyline 350 GT-8).

Daan you might want to use the clutch in corners, push cluth in drift into turn let clutch out and nail it or at starting line holding clutch part way in to keep tires from lighting up on takeoff.

Then I doubt you'd be able to in 7-gear+ vehicles.

Why not? There are such things as full manual sequential transmissions. You know, three pedals and a sequential shifter. And not just on race cars either. The clutches are normaly just used for start off though. just lift the throttle and tug the shifter for everything else. I would hope GT5 would model this correctly too. As in, if you dont depress the clutch pedal then the clutch dosn't dis-engage. That way you get that pop sound on shifts, where the revs just snap into the next gear, like you hear in formula one cars.

Well I would imagine you will have to use the paddles to reach the final gear, since it does allow you to use both techniques for changing gears on GTR. Or maybe you won't be able to use the h-pattern at all for cars with 7 gears +. I really wouldn't worry yourself about technicalities since PD have a lot of heads, one of them will find a solution/compremise.

Also on a side note, does Forza 2 have G25 capabilities?

i would like to see f1 paddle shifters like the one ferrari enzo and all f1 cars have
that would be nice

you can see them behind the steering whell

G25 already has those- made of stainless steel no less!

holy cow,, i just found that out now:dunce: :dunce: :dunce: :dunce:
i am going to get me one right now, screw the ds2 controller thanx for bringing it to my attention
and daan, you dont need to be mean about it!:yuck: :yuck: :guilty: :guilty:

he guys, anyone think that logitech's team gonna makes a new wheel especially for GT5, like he did for GT4 with the DFP?

Six speed what happens if the has a 7 speed like the new SLK

then you prob will be forced to use paddel shifters... but i think most of the mercedes benz cars come in AUTO.. not sure tho.

Yes it has already been mentioned in some interview/magazine (I forget) that a new wheel will be made with GT5 in mind, in partnership with Logitech.

-> I think Logitech and PD will make a G25 version that is specifically built for GT5. Because I've played Test Drive:Unlimited using the G25 on PC, and I noticed that the clutch pedal was too close to the brake pedal making hard to heel-toe or do a left-foot braking. Maybe the good guys at Logitech will solve that problem by talking more to PD.

(:

Could explain why all the pictures of the G25 you see at PD have the pedal removed from clutch bar.

All this gossip makes me want to get a g25 too!! :) But anyways, since that the g25 clutch and h-gearbox couldn't work for both gt4 and gthd,i guess they had to remove the clutch pedal to give more room.I hope logitech do develop a new steering especially for gt5 :) .Maybe with a 7-h gearbox nonetheless...

I have owned several differant wheels and not a single one of them has had a good pedal setup. all that I have owned make you mash the gas and brake pedals like a 1939 Truck. Making it hard to give less than full throttle (I'm going to take my pedals apart and invert them the way I've seen them on another thread here) as soon as I finish my cockpit.

I don't really understand how having the clutch pedal close to the brake pedal affects heel-and-toe downshifts. If your left foot is getting caught on the back of the brake pedal while trying to engage the clutch, that would be happening whenever you shifted gear, up or down, whether you were double-clutching or not, or braking or not. Heel and toe tests the relationship between accelerator and brake, not clutch and brake, and to heel and toe, your right foot would tend to be towards the right side of the brake pedal, far away from the clutch pedal, so that it can reach the throttle with a comfortable twist of the ankle. I've certainly had no problems heel-and-toeing with the G25, but then I do have small feet...

As for the 7 speed H-pattern shifter, personally I can't think of any car ever, road or race, that has offered more than 6 forward gears on an H-pattern shift. All the 7 speed racecars I know had a sequential shift (with or without a clutch pedal) and all the 7 speed road cars I know of are also either sequential semi-auto or auto boxes. I can think of one or two road vehicles with more than 7 forward speeds (as opposed to 7 separate gears), most being lorries, but even they don't have more than 6 slots (EDIT: for forward gears...) on an H- pattern shift. The extra gears are accessed by engaging an overdrive or high / low range function. The LCC Rocket has more than 7 speeds and that's a sports car, but even that uses a high / low range layout to give access. In fact, I have a notion that the Rocket might use a seuential shift pattern anyway. Not too sure on that one.

If anyone knows of any examples of 7 or more forward speeds all accessible through an H-pattern shift, I'd be interested to hear about it. I think that as a driver I'd find such an arrangement terribly confusing..
