Nice cover, nothing really special about it, but then again, it's only a boxart, it doesn't really matter all that much. It's only job is to attract attention and I think this design will do a good job at that. Mind you a blank case with just the words "Gran Turismo" printed on it would probably work just aswell. A good job done all the same.👍

Nice cover, although everyone knew that it has to be the SLS.

I'm just wondering, we can take this as a game development conclusion milestone ( which would be awesome, then just release GT), or they were too busy that the cover choice was postponed until the last available day? Hope it's the first alternative....

Cheers,

SICK cover! I had a feeling they would use the SLS, but I honestly wasn't expecting the digitized theme. Very nice, clean, classy, yet innovative at the same time. Love it

Even though I think the sls is quite ugly, I think this box art is brilliant because the angle they used so you can't see the ugliness of the car. Also the colour looks very attractive so I think they've done a good job with it, I'd give it 10 out of 10.

Exactly. That's the only attractive angle on the SLS. Definitely not a car I would strive to get in GT5, but it looks cool in this box art.

I would just about bet you my life your going have buy that car for a race! I also think its an ugly car, would have preferred a Lamborghini on the box cover.

Could be.

I still think a Ferrari or Lamborghini model, done exactly in that artistic style, would have been much more epic.

I don't like that the car is transparent at some parts. It would look much better if it was just a solid car.

I don't agree. It's done to show that it's video game car, wireframe see through part, but also that it looks like the real life counterpart. I also don't get the open cockpit, inviting the driver feeling that was said earlier. If the angle was closer like your fake cover then maybe. Here it seems they just wanted to show off the gullwing doors, a most known feature of the SL.

I found GT4's cover only "OK" in comparison to this masterpiece, but I did love one thing about GT4's presentation - the white case.

what white case? The only thing white is the paper cover insert. My case, plastic box, is black.

yeah, I thought he meant the box itself was white, not the cover insert.
Side note, I never even noticed what car was on the GT4 cover, just realized it's a GT a few seconds ago.

The new GT5 Cover looks fantastic!! I thought it might've been the Vette ZR-1 but the SLS AMG is for sure a winner. Epic cover.

My GT4 plastic case is white. Americans didn't get the white case?

I've been doing a lot of experimental stuff with edge detect type tools in photoshop with Forza 3 photos recently and thought it looked good but PD have done it really well there.

Whatever you say ;) I just went to that old thread to check, and while I found your cover, I could not find anything about you stating the intention of image and what it represented. Hindsight eh?!

I can't blame you for questioning me, but it was not hindsight.

Earth
While a user dismissed my cover as a copy/paste from the internet that anyone can do I disagree.

My cover from post #142 is more then just a picture of a Ferrari. It's a picture of the inside of an EMPTY Ferrari with an emphasis on the empty seat. It's begging you to go inside and take it for a spin.

The cover, like the real GT covers, is not too complex nor is it too simple.

To me it wasn't about fancy special effects or clever photoshop work, it was about what the image says to the buyer.

Come on, give him some credit, he had the "only for ps3" thing right! ;)

My cover was pretty close too.. :P alot of black and the car is a almost thesame angle but alot further. But I guess that's hindsight. :dopey:

The concept is almost thesame, earth, well done. If you used the filter in photoshop which can make those white lines, the execution would be very very close. 👍

Thanks 👍

After seeing this cover, I really think I will have to buy two copies of the game for myself. One to use, and the other to keep in mint condition.

The special edition will probably look the same, but will have a seperate cover which will slide over the top. IMO, The sliding cover will look pretty simple. Black background with the GT5 logo, maybe... as seen in the video.

Guess not. Black case with white insert...

I like the concept of the wireframe mixed with reality. It finally ADMITS Gran Turismo is, you know, a video game. A very good one, but IS inherently digital despite how close to reality it is - and that being okay. Embracing uncanny valley if you will. So many simulators seem embarrassed to admit they AREN'T exactly reality so have photorealistic box art, only leaving the player ultimately disappointed. This cover looks appropriately inviting and exciting in a way that other GT covers haven't been (clinical white cover from GT4).

But perhaps the layout itself could do with more tweaking. I find the red in the GT5 logo sits oddly next to the car's red. But then it does need some imbalance/dynacism to give energy. I like how the semi-transparency of the car goes with the semi-transparency of the plastic case. Hell, the more I analyse it I realise its probably the best mix of elements. :-p

Thumbs up PD!

End tosser designer rant.

Looks great, but I would have gone with one of the Ferrari's or Lamborghini's. Not everyone heard of the latest Mercedes Benz. Right?

I think the cover is boring an a little amateur. GT covers are usually classy, this isn't.
