OK, I'm sure this is going to be shot down and I will be labled the same as all the other new members who drop in to tell us that their local videogame shop says the release date is xyz... but I feel I need to share a recent conversation.
So... as per usual I dropped into my local videogame store where I have the signature edition on order, the manager / owner is a big GT fan and when I saw the first details of the Signature edition I asked if he could order it, he said he hadn't been told about it at that point, but he rang Sony and said they had heard of it, but it wasn't available for order yet, and that it was not publically announced for Australia even, anyway he rang me a couple of days before it was advertised in store to confirm my preorder.
This time I figured I would ask if he could get the shot glass available in otherparts of the world and he said he would check and get back to me.
I then asked if he had any news on the release date, I figure why not, and this is what he said:
"Last week I was at a conference with Sony representatives and they explained that cheat codes for the game had been stolen / hacked and there was a worry that they would be released to the public... "
At this point I interjected and said "Do you mean they had to remaster to prevent people using the recent Playstation Hack to copy games?".
He replied: "No, cheat codes have been stolen and the developers are concerned that content that is to be unlocked over time, or when the player achieves certain goals will pretty much become unlocked for everyone at day one, thereby spoiling the game for everyone..."
I pretty much said "You are sure it was Cheat codes?" and he said:
"Yes, so they have to alter or remove those codes from the production copies which means they will have to remaster before going into production, the Sony reps assured me it was not some giant bug or anything like that, so the delay would push the game back to late November at the very earliest, but more realistically early to mid December."
Just to clarify, I have read the release day thread and know that no videogame shop employee is going to know anything before an official Sony announcement, but this story took me totally by surprise and I hadn't seen anything remotely like it anywhere before hearing it from him.
