Latest story is a ship with 550,000 copies just for France...seriously??? Is there not a Blu-ray manufacturing plant in Europe that can create copies and distribute by truck? And the copies are just for France? I reckon if they are using a ship(still think thats not as quick as air cargo)they could fit some in there for the rest of Europe...ships are big enough for more copies I reckon. Distribution by ship seems ancient to me. Waiting on definite release date-this story is just filler and for gossip.
There is no mention of actually using a ship to distribute the copies. The picture is completely irrelevant to the news posting.

Cargo Containerships are way cheaper per container then air corgo (You can't even put those containers in airplanes.),
So yeah, Cargo ships are being used for items like videogames (the lower the costs the higer the profit.)
Cargo planes are only used for high priority goods and goods that need to be deliverd fast. (Mail and Vegetables for example.)
We might see our copy of GT5 as being inportant enough to be sent by plane, Sony doesn't.

Anyway, If that ship is inbound from Asia as i expect.
It will take 3 to 4 weeks before it reaches Europe, Where it will most likely dock in Rotterdam where the containers will be offloaded and loaded onto trucks or inland/river cargo ships and be delivered to France.

Now that same ship will most likely contain more containers in which one can find Copy's of GT5 among other games and blurays, Meant for other European Country's,

Question is: When did this ship leave port? And which port did it leave?

And if you still think shipping by Containership is ancient, Go take a look at the size of a port like Rotterdam and imagine how big an airport needs to be to handle all that cargo if they didn't use containerships anymore and sent it all by plane.
The sky's would be overcrowded to, and you wouldn't want to live inside a 50 mile radius of an airport due to sound polution.

2 pressing plants in the UK, one in austria and another I can't remeber where...Belgium? any how possibley UK plant has done them in which case it'll be on a boat for half a day.....doubt it though and completly irelevant as you say, If it was on a boat from UK to france it'll be on the back of a truck sitting on a boat LOL.

But more importantly!!! And something no ones picked up on is where the copies are for! France! Why's that important? couple of things really, first up France has some very tight regulations on any media that has spoken or writen language in it, there very purist about the French language (I aplaud them for this) which can and dose cause delays....If there copies are already on there way there that means everything has been done in this regard. Secondly......Simultanious world wide release.....Even if Sony STILL hasn't given us a release date (still can't work this out with all these daetails out) it's a good bet that there inital plan of a world wide release (unlike prolouge) is going to happen.

Big cheesey grin

And yep, pressing the disc in Australia then transporting it halfway around the globe to a larger market place that has 4 Sony pressing plants is a bit of a false economy to say the least, GT5 Europe will be pressed in Europe and distributed internaly throughout Europe, all that is required is a copy of the gold disc and you can make as many as you want. Remeber Sony put out alot of media world wide on CD, DVD and Blueray, GT5 is a very small percent of the anual production of these world wide pressing plants, to do them all in one location and then ferry them around the golbe on container ships would cost a huge amount!
Back in the dim and distant past of earlier GT releases then yes shipping them by container was the norm but not anymore.

Now we just have to find out where in the world it is :)

Haha the retarded thing is I know exactly where that is. It's in Venice at the Giardini boat stop, you can see it on google maps lol.

The games are not getting shipped on a boat, my company orders parts from Japan and it takes months for them to get to the usa by boat, its a photo pointing out that the games are being shipped.

Do you guys think we'll get a new thread when GT5 comes out? With people talking about 3000 pages... even after the game comes out.. that's a lot of pages to sort through, especially for those who are new here and have no idea where to look.

Your game wouldn't be coming from Japan, but from one of the NA processing plants.

AAAAAARRRRGHHHHH

Right the US presses there own in the states (sleep-z) ment this in his post.

Matskimonk....yes there are rivers in Europe in fact france has very large canals as well...but hey they also have a huge coastline with many shipping ports.

Yes you can sail a boat from Australia to France....quite easily in fact, but to travel halfway around the globe at roughly 25 knots takes a very long time.

Sorry guys sarcasim overload.......just someone give me the game or at least tell me when I can buy it LOL

Good point-consider me educated :)

Austria. The copies for France are made in Austria.

Something off topic here but a nice way to pass the time for more information on GT5. http://googlefight.com What this does is compare 2 words or phrases with how many search results Google have and then implement them in a fight scene. I tried "Gran Turismo 5" vs "Forza Motorsport 3".
The results were:
GT5: 638,000 :)
Forza motorsport 3: 275,000

EDIT: Go ahead and try it you can type in anything!

Thanks Ramo, got GTPlanet fever then LOL

So on a truck, head north into germany after 7 hours turn a sharp left then on for another 4 hours and your there.....France.

If it was traveling by boat from Austria to France......no you couldn't unless you were in a canoe and got out a few times and walked a bit between rivers.....

Sorry for the mixup, saw a post the other day which said all PAL copies were made in Australia....my Dyslexia must have caught me out again LOL

Whats the average 24 hour production output on these plants? heard 14,000 banded about somewhere on the forum, that would make it roughly 4 days to press the standard copies for france and a day to deliver them. That would mean if there already "dispatched" that there's a warehouse somewhere in France with nearly half a million copies due for arival at somepoint over the weekend....possibley monday, Pier! dig out my French disguise, I shall pedal to France imediatly in my slightly patronising stereotypical french costume...one pushbike, stripey T-Shirt, berie and string of onions! I'll report back in when I find them.

For those from France apauled at that last bit, I'm a roast beef eating bowler hat wearing English idiot and only zenephobic towards the Spanish.....;)

Hehe if you type in the full GT5 name you get something like 5760000 hits instead.

I apologise if this has been asked elsewhere...but what is the limit of the length of the randomly generated courses? Though some may find the idea boring, I'd like to just take a car for a long spin on a randomly generated stretch of road and experience the day to night transition and weather effects.

The only problem I see is the cases, books and scalemodels for the CE and SE editions. I bet those cases and scalemodels are made in china or somewhere in that area. They need to be shiped aswell. I don't think they will be traving by plane but by boat to the printingplants where they will be assembled. And 5000 SE for france only will mean alot more scalemodels must have been made for the whole word. I don't know how many scalemodels kyosho can preduce but it's lot of work beside their 'normal' production.

Have you just been watching The Gadget Show on Dave then?

Yeah but they were probably produced ages ago in advance, we have seen scans from the book and even seen the cars on ebay. So relax sony won't have been that stupid :sly::sly::sly: (We hope.)

As seen here, PD have their very own 747.

Don't worry I'm only joking. :)

Man, I love that intro. Makes me want to play GT Concept again. And it's great to see that GT5 is approaching that kind of quality for its graphics.

On another note, maybe Dunsfold Park (i.e. Top Gear Test Track) could help with their own 747. Although, how are they gonna carry 555,000 copies with four mock engines I have no idea. :P

I´d think the packaging was done for the original release, so all they needed was to press the actaul discs. :)

opps to late heh.
