I can completely believe the car you drove was terrible. It may well have had 20 year old suspension still on it. But the way you said it sort of dissed the whole marque, obviously you didn't mean that.

It was more exactly the opposite... dave_sz remarked to someone that he wouldn't accept their opinion of Porsche unless they'd driven one. I pointed out I'd driven a 1984 911 and it was terrible - the point there being that my opinion is somehow more valid having driven one, even though it's utterly irrelevant. I also had to point out to someone else that I've never actually delivered an opinion on Porsche.

I suspect almost all of the problems with the car were related to the RHD conversion and the 18" Boxster wheels buggering about with the 20 year old suspension geometry (and rubberband Pirellis - hateful tyres), but it just left me cold. Brakes were okay though.

You also missed the point of the smiley after the efa which was meant as a jokey type of post. But then again I suck at interpreting texts/ posts and always grab the wrong end of the stick

No offense intended or taken

I don't take offence down the internet - and I don't intend any when I say that you are, effectively, just pixels a couple hundred miles away. Not to be mean but, that's pretty much the level and limit of our interaction - and the very same thing applies to me from your point of view. Only my pixels are indigo. But other than that, I'm just as much a nobody to you. Would seem odd to get annoyed by nobody - though I'm sure some people would manage it

Well, back OT but still Porsche 911 (old-air-cooled) related, I'd only like to say that I wish GT5 had all this. Oh, and if you guys care to watch (and HEAR) cars #4, #6 and #8 go by, I would also like to drive those Porsches - even if only in a game - like Frequelin, Waldegaard and Therier could do it.

(didn't find any Rothmans/Toivonen good clip, pity)

Imagine having all these cars in GT5 (with proper sound please)

I wish all supercars were premiums...(McLaren F1???)

"The problem is that premium models take a lot of time to create and we wanted to include many more vehicles than before. To make premium versions of all the cars we want to put in would take ten years or more and I don’t think people are prepared to wait long!"

Now THAT is a long wait. Just search some pictures of the innards of an F1 and envision that in your mind as you crash!:yuck::)

I agree - this is exactly why I beefed off about Famine's comments, because they did appear to slam the entire brand..

Let's Recap -

GMTN
Porsche is really over-rated i don't see what the big deal is to have them in this game, not saying it wouldn't be nice if it was included.
^ GMTN Talking about all porsches

dave_sz
I'll take your opinion seriously after you drive one. Til then, lol.
^ Perfectly justified

Famine
I drove a 1984 911 Carrera 3.2 around a race track. It was all-ends-up terrible.
^ Seems like you're agreeing with GMTN, but sounding worse because it sounds like you're saying "The one I drove was terrible, so they must all be terrible"

But, everyone's friends again, so who gives a crap!

Had that been what I meant, that would have been what I said. Watch:

Rovers are all utter crap.

However, what I meant was that the 911 I drove was terrible, and that's what I said. The irony is that it was sort of a joke that, because I've driven one, my opinion should be more valid (somehow). Only it quite clearly isn't, not least because the one I drove has no relevance to... well... anything.

Someone's opinion that Porsche are "n" is perfectly valid, whether they've driven one or not. Same as anything else really. We can choose to ignore it or make a fuss about it. Generally, I prefer the former.

Apart from this forum ( at least most of the time ), it seems GT5 has become the laughing-stock of the 'gaming world' due to its long gestation period.
At least that's the impression I get when visiting other gaming-sites.
I'm sure ( or hopeful is more accurate perhaps ) we'll have the last laugh when it does finally arrive and the final product proves to be worth waiting for.
If not, and it continuous to take a seemingly endless amount of time to develop still, at least those requesting more classic cars ( including me ) will have their wishes unintentionally granted.....;)

Yes, and a hearty last laugh it should be :)

👍

Are you quoting Famine using pink? PINK? Is it 2012 already? :scared:

;)

I must have a death-wish because we live about 30 miles from each other (guessing from his Sheffield location) Eeeek

But Famine generally has an excellent sense of humour, so I'm pretty chilled about it..

I'm also equipped with the perfect protection -

I don't think Famine lives in Sheffield, he's just from there. He does live just a couple of houses down from you though and has a very blood stained axe he calls henrietta ;).

Yeah chill out, its all been sorted.
Meanwhile enjoy this vid of a real old (1965) 911 getting sideways round Spa

It's nice to see the old cars with the cockpit view, look how much is hard driving cars like that without any assistance like tc...... thanks 👍

I believe his policy is similar to that of the guy in my avatar.

Coming back to the topic of the Porsche driving experience, not that I have any, I've had the chance to talk occasionally to a few people who actually own some of classic air-cooled 911's. One thing I find common is that all of them do say that as opposed to what happens in more actual Porsche models, which are fairly easily drivable on a normal driving basis, the old ones were (are) extremely twitchy and unforgivable even in a regular road trip; a little too much enthusiasm on the left foot in the middle of a corner is sufficient to completly loose it. On track, even in a track-event, they definitively demand for someone who had a fairly good experience and knowledge of the car to push them hard. It's a car, as they say, that likes to bite you, and will whenever he can.

Never having driven one in my life, but hearing people who actually do it, and others who had experienced them for a couple of times (even people who have some driving skills) and didn't like them at all (the number of people of after experience for a first time a Porsche didn't enjoy it its higher than one might think), I guess that this is a car that no doubt can be a pleasure to drive hard but, on the other hand and particularly in older models, do take a lot of time for people to get used to it and know it before that enjoyment can be reached.

DO YOU GUYS SEE THAT?

NO GT5 at E3...
I know it CAN be fake but for me seems real.

Yes i know.I just wondering what models are in those 170 premiums?
Kaz mentioned that they are racing and rally cars. But Merc SLS-AMG took them 6 month to create, so in my view it's premium model.Just wondering...

A lot of sites like IGN are compiling games that they absolutely know are showing at E3. But it takes time to fill those lists up. It's still sort of early.

Rally/WRC/NASCAR/Touring cars, etc. The SLS AMG won't be premium, just like the 458. These babies will not get roughed up too much. TGS 2009 showed a glimpse of how much damage they will sustain and it very much follows the standard model.

This is how I interpret things having read up on this. There are two distinct levels of detail regarding the car models, defined as "race cars" and "production cars".

  • Race cars (rally, NASCAR etc.) are completely modeled inside and out, including inside the cabin and under the hood. These have a full damage model, meaning that panels can come flying off the cars. If, for example, a door comes flying off, you will be able to see right into the cabin. If the hood comes flying off, you will be able to see right inside the engine bay.
  • Production cars (standard factory spec) are not modeled to such fine details because they have a limited damage model, where panels cannot come flying off the car. These only get scuffs and scratches. As such, there is no need for them to model the engine bay and every part of the cabin because you would never see them anyway.

This is what they mean when referring to "interior view". On race cars, you can see the working innards of the car if panels come off, on production cars you cannot.

Cockpit view is an entirely different thing altogether, and I'm sure that ALL cars in the game will have the view from the drivers seat replicated. However, what is not clear yet, is whether the full damage model on race cars will have a visual impact in terms of what you see in cockpit view...

Thanks, that sounds good...and it confirmed what I thought...
