GT5 might not become all that

Frankly, I'd buy a ton of them. In my GT4 garage, I have over 400 cars, and some of them are duplicates with different color or spoilers added. I have all the Super GT Supras and Skylines. In civilian cars, I have a whole gob of the Skylines. And I probably have less than half of the car list, and intend to get most of them eventually. Yes, I still play GT4 and love it.

As for GT5, I'm not sure just how many cars will be in, but 400 plus isn't unreasonable. What I'm much more anxious about is for Kaz and the lads to include all the tracks from all versions of Gran Turismo, and many new tracks besides.

I'm one of those who expects GT5 to be all that, and more. I think we're going to be pleasantly surprised.

I really think that because pd is japanese, they think it's cool to stuff the game with all their favorite cars. what about us americans and aussies and brits and deutschlanders who love their own cars? finally they bring us ferrari, i'm hoping maserati comes along with that. some good small manufacturers like koenigsegg, ascari, caparo, ssc, that stuff is what i really want. you can have your 5 million tuned supras and skylines, but the real variety comes when you have the best cars from all over the world racing for the win. don't get me wrong, i love supras, evos, and skylines, but i really hate too many versions of the Same. Damn. Cars.

what the heck is prologue there for then? I just figure it's the current physics engine + most of the features. but minus some tracks, cars and novelty modes.

I guess the short of it is that I don't like prologue at all. and this is my 'taste of what's to come?'
I don't mean to get down on the game, but I'm having serious doubts. once I goot done ooh-ing over the graphics, all prologue did was annoy me.

How did prologue "annoy" you? In a sense, they probably used it to keep us from waiting WAY too long for any iteration of GT. You think the current complaining is bad with no GT5 news? Just think if we didn't get prologue in the first place...combined with the news we haven't gotten lately. Everyone would think the series was long gone. Prologue kept everyone's mouths wet, and gave people an enjoyable racing experience (well, most of us I guess).

I still play it quite often. Yes it's getting kinda stale, but I dont have a ton of time to play it, and since Killzone 2 was released, I've been playing that when I've had time to play the PS3 anyway. So when I do play it, I still find it quite fun because in my opinion, there's nothing out there that touches the experience I get in GT.

I know you all want to think that GT5 will have 900+ cars and 100+ tracks, but i think that GT5 will suffer by being limited to only a few cars and tracks. Don't get me wrong, i want it to have a lot of cars and tracks, but i'm taking this from GT's history.

Who said we need 900 cars to be satisfied? I still have cars I've barely touched in my GT4 garage, and I still get some pleasure out of finding new diamonds in the rough. Over 700 cars, about 80 or so of which can be chalked up under the most common name plates (From Wiki: there are 20 different Subaru Imprezas, 25 Mitsubishi Lancers, and 48 Nissan Skylines) and 51 tracks. The only thing lacking from GT4 was a few more interesting real life circuits.

Now, any speculation about Mo5's final car count is just that, speculation. But, if we end up with at least the core of GT4s car content, plus all the new stuff like Ferrari, I see 5-600 car count being easily attained. That many cars will take up a lot of time, and hat will give PD more than enough time to get crackin' on some DLC.

Consider how relatively easy PD gave us a real-life spec Formula 1 car, compared to how far in to GT4 you had to progress just to get a fake one. That should bode well for the quality of the content we get.

Tracks you say? Prologue has given us 33% new content for tracks. We know to expect the return of our perennial favorites, La Sarthe and The 'Ring. A lot of buzz says that Indianapolis is already in. Then there's all of those little dots on the weather board, on My Page. It would be awful cruel to list courses up there that they have no intention of including in the game, eventually.

So there might be a 10% reduction in car count. The overall quality of the game will overcome a few less cars. PD has done very well financially, and I don't think the transition to GT3 is any kind of indicator as to what to expect from Mo5.

I also don't think the limited nature of Prologue's online system is any reason to worry about how online will work in the full game. It's obvious now that they don't want to give us to much functionality, so as not to give away all their secrets.

+1. I hated that they had so many diffeent skylines that in GT4 were exactly the same. V-Spec, V-Spec Nur, MNP. It drove me crazy!!!!!!! The evo RS and GSR whick were identical in game.

I was just watching Beyond The Apex (for the 100th time) and KY said the Prologue was 15% to 20% of his final vision :nervous:. Shoot if they added 50more cars and 10 more tracks that would keep me good for along time! I still scream of joy when i play GT5P. So when the final version comes out im pretty sure its going to be all that!

Why? The modeler and developer who made those cars would have taken allmost no time to add the slightly differernt trimmed models, I can't see how it hurts anyone.

thanks for the invitation then.

it's got the worst menu system yet in gt, it generates no end of headaches and "aww...why?" moments. horrible, no-frills online that's unplayable whenever it's not just wasting my time at the matching screen. And this is *after* I was forced to race classes I don't care for just to unlock the ability to use the better physics online (why?). Heck, it took a comical number of attempts just to get the game updated enough to even start, and don't get me started about those TV episodes.

I'm worried that gt5 will be gt5p with more cars and more tracks, but to make me happy, it had better be a lot more than that.
I've never bought a 'prologue' before--how did the last few turn out?

GT4P had ca 30 cars, 5 tracks, only missions and single races and horrible physics iirc. If GT5P is compared to the full game what GT4P was to GT4 GT5 is going to be HUGE.

The last prologue was pretty much a bunch of license tests and coffee breaks with fifty cars a 5 tracks or so, I forget the number of tracks because after I completed the tests in gold I just stuck to time trial (nothing online) on Citta di Aria.

There was no other prologues before that unless you class GT Concepts in the same league, in the end GT5P trumps all of them in content and features.

Gran turismo 2 (1999) -> Gran turismo 3 (2001) 2 years.
Gran turismo 4 (2004) -> Gran turismo 5 (2009?) 5 years.

Enough said.

When PD moved to the PS2 GT3 had only 150 cars. I'm afraid that GT5 may suffer the same fate of a critically low amount of cars because of moving over to a new console.

Would be a farce if they did that again considering how much longer they've to develop the game.

It takes considerably more time to model cars and environments for GT5 than it did for GT4 (and even moreso for older games; I remember reading PD say that if they were to make GT2 again today it would only take a couple weeks or something like that), so obviously development time would increase. Personally, I'm guessing 300-350 cars at launch; the only thing we know for certain is that 500 would be "impossible," according to Polyphony.

Especially with the level of Detail in GT. I gotta be able to see the supercharger on the ZR1 through the hood window.

Getting to the kind of car count GT4 had should be no problem. They've been working on this for a loooong time now.

On the Vette: The real car doesn't show the supercharger, just some plastic molding.

On reaching GT4's car count: Read my above comment. Unless Polyphony holds out on GT6 for the PS4, we may see that large a roster in DLC one day, but I'm not holding my breath.

i really think that there is no car (aside from porsches) that are out of pd's hands.

Why does Porsche seem impossible? EA's exclusive license with them dried up a long time ago, as Forza plainly shows. Yamauchi has hinted strongly that Porsche will show up - I have a link to another article with Yamauchi claiming they'll have "all the major manufacturers" with Porsche in particular noted, but for some reason it's not working anymore. It's an old article, but here (in the list on page 2, if you don't care to read it all) Motor Trend claims a "maybe" for Lamborghini as well.

I'm not hearing talk of weather, and who knows what they mean by 'adding damage.'

Go here again for Yamauchi's comment on damage limitations. Every question I've seen regarding weather is answered with something along the lines of "we're working on it" or "we're looking into it."

we already have over 80 cars when you count the 74 from GT5P plus the cars from the different trailers that didnt make it into Prologue, plus the cars from GTHD Concept, plus some other cars shown.

Well if you have a look at the master car list, it shows around 160 cars, confirmed as rendered in HD.

The master car list is whack, if you ask me. You can't count the cars from GTHDC because they were only GT4 (or GT4 spec) cars boosted up in resolution. They were never proven to be created to the 200,000-polygon spec of GT5. If you're going to count those, you may as well count the motorcycles that were originally planned for GTHD Concept, which obviously sparks ginormous arguments (don't start).

it's actually kind of good to know something as complex as gt4 had a humble prologue. I really am looking forward to GT5 (or I wouldn't be here) but I'm a bit short fused when it comes to the whole situation.

Understandable. We're all waiting for the day that some GT5 news is released, and the game of course, whenever that may be. Whether you liked GT5p or not, I don't think we'll be disappointed with GT5.

I was watching Beyond The Apex (for the 100th time) and KY said that GT5P was 15% to 20% of his final vision. We also had a well respected member in the community tell us that something big is coiming. I will put all my chips in that GT5 will be all that. For now i just chill, Play GT5P and wait to hear wonderful news about GT5.

No you have been very short sighted in your reasoning. GT2-GT3 2 years. GT4-GT5 5 years (+)

On that basis alone I would expect GT5 to be considerably bigger than GT3. Also note that we have over 160 cars confirmed already, many of these before the release of HD even. Sure it might not quite be GT4 in size, but it will be more than a few cars and a few tracks.

The problem is you haven't looked at GT's history in enough detail. ;)

Most of that time was used to update GT's physics to be as realistic as possible. Making realistic physics takes years.

Let me just say that as a fan of the GT series and as a person, I would never say that a game would never be "all that." I try to have some positivity a lot of times. That's why when various people were complaining about certain aspects of Gran Turismo 4 before GT4 was even released, I tried to offer some sort of consoling and some sort of promise. You see, most people just see something in an upcoming game before they even get to play the final build. This is like hating a guy/girl hating a girl/guy before he/she even meets her/him.

I will say this, however. I doubt GT5 will be as massive as GT4 with all kinds of cars and tracks. Something I'm thinking of nowadays is that GT5 could progressively get better with more cars and tracks. But, I've always been a classical thinker. In other words, put in as much content as possible to make a store-bought game the most unreal experience money can buy. Then in the future, more content will be made available to further enhance the experience. This model reminds me of rFactor for the PC in which a good game is made better with modifications and new content. If you're willing to deliver lukewarm reviews of GT5 before GT5 is even released, just remember this quote: "wait a little longer."

Gran Turismo 5 is likely not going to be as massive as GT4. However, I am still hopeful this game will be every bit as enjoyable in the GT series as the past four GTs. Take it from a Gran Turismo veteran and GTPlanet veteran like myself- if you continually remain positive and hopeful and not have lofty expectations for GT5, your negative views and forecasts of GT5 will go away. So stay positive and hopeful that GT5 will still be a good game, even if downsized quite a bit.

Yes, you nailed it! Physics programmers were hard working while graphicians have been on vacation all those years! It seems like you are looking hard for any reason for which GT5 would be poor in content and you can't find one :)

While other publishers waste their time doing promos and teasers, PD is locked away in a bunker deep inside Sony HQ working non-stop on GT5 until they finish.

Yeah, I've got a hunch that says this could be the biggest, greatest racing game ever.

That's not strictly true, PD have a lot going on and certain not all is on Gran Turismo. So many side projects.

My god, how could you THINK that? :grumpy: I seriously hope for a technical mirror reverse of your saying.

What I expect:
  • 400-500 cars. Most will be Japanese as usual, but I expect more variety from the rest of the world this time. While the many varieties of Skylines and Mustangs will be included, the car count will be minimized in regard to special additions available in the sale lots. Dealerships will offer many more options as far as tweaks and upgrades, and there will be an extensive used car market, where some surprises can be found as far as special cars. Physics will be further improved over Prologue.
  • The upgrade market will be greatly improved. Tuner Villages and dealerships will enable you to upgrade your car in many ways, as well as create special tuned versions with a selection of body parts. Racing District will be where you go for full blown upgrading of your cars to fully professional race cars, designed for the specifications of various racing leagues around the world, from Rally to DTM. A Paint and Livery Shop will enable you to change the car's color, or give it a full racing livery, complete with custom decals you design yourself. A wide range of vinyls, text fonts, decals, national flags, exotic colors and more will be available to experiment with, and templates will enable anyone to create a good looking race car. Options will enable you to auction, sell or give cars to friends.
  • 70-80 tracks will be included, including all the tracks immortalized in the previous versions of Gran Turismo, such as Pike's Peak, Grindelwald, Red Rock Valley and the Special Stages. Along with them, I anticipate new courses such as Spa, Hockenheim and Nurburgring GT course.
  • Damage. Not just mechanical, but visual. While I expect damage to be at the simulation level, there will no doubt be a range of settings from Simulation to Off.
  • Weather, including the option to have weather modelled after the current conditions at the real world courses. Fantasy tracks will be located in actual places on the planet so they won't be left out. Options for random weather to clear skies will be included.
  • Time of Day will be changeable, and can be set to the same point as the real time track locations.
  • Extensive gameplay modes will be included, not just traditional Arcade and GT Modes, but Season and Career Mode for offline racing. Online options will include the familiar competitions of Prologue, as well as extensive race series as well as Online Leagues. Lobbies public and private will be supported, along with races, and potent online race setup tools, such as a League Builder.
  • Downloadable content will be intelligently incorporated into both online as well as offline play.
  • Photo Mode will be taken a step further with the incorporation of Director Mode, where cameras can be positioned and their behavior defined to create your own replays. Replays can generate video files which can be shared.
  • B-Spec will be enhanced to a point similar to the trainable Drivatar in Forza 1. You can create a number of these bots and hire them to race for you, or join you in a race team.

And there's more, but I really need to dig up my proposal post and see if it gets any thumb's ups. But a GT5 which is remotely like this should make even the most doubtful person happy.

HAHA exactly!

AI and maybe damage (at least internal) plus we need body kits and livery editor to make GT5 a step up.

Indeed! I wouldn't be dissapointed if there wasn't damage. Wait. Check that. I would be dissapointed, but I could live without damage. Body mods a la GT2 would be a welcome return to the series. And if I recall that vid clip from last E3, was it?, Kaz stated there would be more intuitive, interactive AI.
