GT5 slow on PS3 Super Slim?

I used to play GT5 on a PS3 Slim 320 GB model but it died so I recently bought a PS3 Super Slim 500 GB. The thing is that I have had nothing but problems with GT5 on this new system. Loading times are at least 3 times slower on my new Super Slim and everything but the actual gameplay seems to lag. I have performed a system restore but nothing seems to help. Anyone else having similar issues with GT5 on the Super Slim?

Do any other games act like how GT5 does? If that the case then a faulty lens reader maybe suspect, or perhaps the processor itself. Make use of that warranty.

I just had the same thing happen. My slim 120 gig died and my daughter bought me the "Uncharted" bundle which came with a super slim 320 gig. Mine however is running great so far and loads alot faster than my old one ever did. Try disabling your internet connection in your XMB menu and see if that makes a difference. Mine loads faster yet with the internet disabled. I rarely go online anymore and just stick to doing WRS TT's.

Probably Sony lowered the amount of the processors down from the slim.

Wouldn't be surprised. They did the same thing when they went from the fat model and made the slim

I just don't think thats the case. As I said above, mine is running faster than my old one ever thought of running.

Other games are fine and so is GT5 when driving but everything else is slower. Especially the saving process takes a long time. Going offline is not an option as I only play GT5 online these days. I wonder if it's just a bad combination of Super Slim + Firmware 4.31 + GT5 version 2.09.

I suggested going offline just to see if that made a difference to see if that was the problem. I have the same super slim as you do but you have the bigger HD and am running on the same firmware and version with no problems like you're having which leads me to believe its something else causing your problem.

Try cleaning your disc and clearing your cache. Your blu-ray lens shouldn't need cleaning since you said you just recently got it but you can try that aswell.

Oh ok. Just thought it might be a possibility.

Anyway..... He might want to disable the internet connection to see if that has any effect

That's how they all start out, nice and snappy in the beginning, then starts the degradation of parts. They (all manufacturers) usually start with great/expensive parts then slowly work down to mediocre/cheap ones. They usually make them smaller with limited hardware in order to push more units with cheap manufacturing costs.

I can almost guarantee you that if you change your blu-ray lens to an aftermarket one, you'll see huge improvements. This goes for all systems excluding the fat, the slim and super slim come with sub-par lenses in them that degrade quickly (a year or so?). GT5 is a highly data sensitive game which means the lens runs in over-drive (so to speak), it degrades lenses much faster than normal games.

I've had 2 lenses (on a 120gb slim) from Sony that both crapped out, the second one was only used for GT5. They both lasted around 6-8 months each, I got an aftermarket one installed, a year and a half later, no issues whatsoever (loading, anything).

Yes, I know parts degrade but since he just recently bought his as did I, he shouldn't be experiencing the slow loading times. Thats the reason I'm making comparisons to mine since mine is new also and its running fine.

I hear nothing but negative things about the super slim.
Cheap plastic, ugly design, old school (ps1) disc compartment....and now this...
Glad I recently bought the normal slim.

I haven't heard anything like that but whatever. Mine must be a one-in-a-million then because its running just fine. I agree about the design tho. The only good thing about the design is the laser is alot easier to get to if you need to clean it.

I have a super slim and GT5 Academy Edition and no problems here at all.

In fact, everything loads a little quicker. Especially the XMB.

Just like I was saying. Just out of curiosity, I just went and read a bunch of reviews on these new super slim models. Almost all of the bad reviews that it is getting is due to the design as stated above. Matter of fact, I didn't see any bad reviews due to the performance of these models, they were all directed at the design which I can understand. I think the OP has something else going on with his as he said the problems only arise while playing GT5.

Funny that you mention the XMB because that too is slower on my new Super Slim. As I said, I can't tell any difference in the other games I have tried but maybe that is because GT5 is slow to begin with, thus being easier to notice a difference. Who knows, the problem may not be GT5 related.

I have done and checked the following:

Full system restore
File system restore
Database rebuild
GT5 game disc is in mint condition (doesn't need cleaning)
Disconnected ethernet cable

None of the above has helped. I have read some posts elsewhere that the Super Slim 500 GB is slower due to the bigger hard drive, but GT5 is way too slow for enjoyment here. I can't believe it's just the bigger hard drive. Actually, it's only slow when it has to access the hard drive, as indicated by the orange light on the PS3. I don't think the problem is related to the blue ray drive as it seems to work fine.

Sounds like a HDD issue. Especially if you are noticing XMB sluggishness.

The Super Slim PS3's are great, and have no performance issues in comparison to previous PS3 models.

@ Astro Racer - Do you have a 12gb PS3 Super Slim model?

500gb super slim and its been fine with me, no issues what so ever.
Agree the design is a little flimsy and therefore a little louder than the old slim but overall no probs.:D
And I only play GT5 so its a comparable to my old 320gb slim which YLOD and fingers crossed all is ok. No difference in perfomance at all?
Chat soon bye for now.:)

That makes no sense whatsoever. "Lowered the amount of the processors"? There is only one....

Any chance that it's my old save file from the 320 GB system causing trouble? Maybe the data is confused because of the new "environment" on the 500 GB. Only guessing.

Also, I'm about to start another full system restore. Just as a a precautionary measure in case something went wrong during the first.

I'm not sure if that could be the issue or not but I can tell you that I loaded my 3 account saves from my old PS3 onto my new super slim and all 3 are running fine.

Are you sure you have done the full install on your new console. If it says installing in the bottom corner of your screen when loading up a track you need to do the full install.

@bluntified I don't think gt5 destroys lenses. I've had my slim since they were released and I play gt5 every day. Mine still runs like new.

Ok, good to know CargoRat.

@Reddee: Yes, I did the full install but it also took a very long time, way longer than I remember on my old PS3 but that was also done with version 1.00 back then, maybe it takes longer with version 2.09. However, I still see install messages in the bottom corner every time I load something for the first time but it was always like that.

Sorry to hear you are having problems. Bought mine a week ago and so far all is good with GT5. No real hang ups, but have not tried any other games with it. Maybe go back to the retailer?

I have the 320gb super slim. It seemed a little slower at first, but that may just have been a perception. Running just fine though, no issues.

So I guess I might be better off getting my YLOD Fat 60 fixed (professionally) for $100 than buying a Super Slim in a couple of months?

You should get the normal slim, just like I did.

Fix that system, as it has all the bells and whistles and it's really sought after.
I gave up the idea of paying a lot of money to get my FAT repaired since it would fix it only for a few months. The YLOD would be back again.

I haven't heard anything like that but whatever.
