I believe the 'fanboys' in America will come out in drove for Prologue. Anxious to see how well it does on the sales charts for a 'demo'.

Not sure if I'm missing something, but I own all three consoles and am wondering where you are getting that the multi platform games are better on the PS3. Personally from my experience they are any where from much worse to almost the same, 360 is usually better. The PS3 versions mostly max out at 720p, 360 upscales to 1080p. The Dolby Digital support for the PS3 is a joke imo. I have 2 games that don't even use the center channel, COD4 and Guitar Hero3. I have to manually unchecked the DD and DTS box in sound settings if I want to hear some lead vocals on GH3. Hell the Orange Box doesnt even come with Dolby Digital support in the PS3 version. So far I'm only buying first party games for the 3, but if it changes so will I.

There has been comparisions for both games Devil may cry and Burnout.. sure 360 can go to 1080p but its a joke..
Both games were lil bit faster, smoother on the PS3... Serch the web.. or just go check out IGN.
So do some research before you ran your mouth..
But sure there are some games that are better on the 360, but it was a year ago. now games look better on PS3.. Orange box is good one for the xbox because developers dont know how to code the PS3 version so they made a weak port.

How about that Boxing game? Remember how good it looked on the Xbox360? I tihnk year later it came to PS3 and it made graphics almost twice as good. Or how about Full Auto game? It was good for the X360 but then they made a new game for PS3, made it run smoother and better.

All those PS3 exclusive games are really good looking, and i think better looking, Longer story lines, and much more game play. Lets Even if some games or some dont look better in graphics, Xbox can not make LONG games as PS3 can. They are very limited. And like people said, Xbox 360 is like Xbox 1.5, it only has better graphics.

Can we please stay on topic with the 'spirit' of the thread. One look at Prologue will convince people which system to invest in. I think this 'prologue' could give some full games a run for their money. GT fanboys unite, you can only get it on the 'black' box anyway. With few exclusives soon, many multi platform games coming, along with tax refunds & 'stimulus' checks, Prologue could sway people to pickup a PS3. And THEN there are the fanboys who made GT franchise what it is, Sony's biggest.

Yup back to topic. Not only GT5 is reason I got a PS3, I got a nice HD tv ( well old TV broke anyways) I also got a G25 and Playseats evolution racing seat for G25... SO much money :nervous:

I know what you mean. LOL, I got two setups (PS3/LCD) so when I wanna 'drive' my wife ain't in the way with her 'fantasy' games! Two updates where hell though. I think GT fans are the most hardcore, what with the success of Logitech's wheel series. I think they are betting on a 'shot in the arm', too.( GT5 wheel).

Is this necessary? ChadSpeed said he owns all three consoles and prefaced his comments with, "Personally from my experience," indicating he is merely sharing his view.

First-hand experience > Internet research

And like people said, Xbox 360 is like Xbox 1.5, it only has better graphics.
The same exact thing could be said of the PS3, and it would be equally half-true in both cases.

Since when do slightly-smoother graphics or somewhat-faster loading times automatically make one console superior to another, anyway? The point of multi-platform games is to allow a wider range of gamers to play, not to allow gamers to nit-pick jaggies and the blurriness of textures in order to determine what console is "best." Every single person who does such nitpicking already owns their console of choice anyway, so the "competition" is even more meaningless.

Robin,
luck had nothing to do with Blu-ray, Sony learned long ago how NOT to wage a format war (BETAMAX). This time they simply bought movie studios or 'compelled' them to use Blu-ray. You can't even watch TV without seeing Sony Picture, and their music catalog is huge and full of 'exclusive' artists. Shrewd forsight in my opinion...

I can see it now.

THE POWER OF SONY COMPELLS YOU, THE POWER OF SONY COMPELLS YOU, YOU MUST LEAVE THIS STUDIOS BODY YOU DEMONIC HD-DVD.

After seeing the euro GT5P bundle box I think Sony's betting on the premise of this thread.

Too bad the bundle Boxes done come with some Special GT paint for the PS3 or have a nice huge logo on the front. I think that would even sell more console bundles.

Thanks for the rebuttal Wolfe. He has edited and added to his post since last I checked, and was definitely verging on rude. Not something I expect here in the GTP forums. Me and Mustang245 for instance get along great, but he is a self proclaimed fanboy for Sony and GT. No big deal we can still have great debates and when GT5P hits US, probably some great races. Probably have to be late at night though for Mustang, ha ha:sly:

Well I am sorry for being such a mean person to you. Hope we get along :)

After all, I think we are buddies on PSN ;)

Next time I get carried away you can slap me across the face to stop my MADNESS!!

I got you on my friends list, I respect your view. But the way you told me to do research before a " ran my mouth" was a bit harsh. I have first hand experience. Since I only see a PSN tag for you I would say you probably don't have first hand experience and are stating what you have read on the Internet. Its cool to love you system of choice, but I like loving ALL my systems, and can give unbiased comments about everyone of them.

I'm really sorry again, I owe and Xobx and Xobx 360 as well, I just got little pissed at them since its breaking up. Sorry I took it out on you. Slap me next time to wake me up ;)

Or lets race when GT5 comes out ;)

No worries, it was'nt a big deal, so apology accepted. Oh yes we will race, and hopefully be able to chat while doing so in the NA version.

Now to get back on topic. I don't belive GT5P will do a lot for the PS3. It may push some of teh GT fans to jump on the PS3 now instead of the full release. The full release will be a shot directly to the heart of the PS3 for sure.

well, due to all the activity on the 'GT5P' official thread surrounding the buzz of latest release news, i'm further inclined to believe this will "be the bomb". when i popped in Japanese version, i thought "America/UK,etc has no idea what is about to hit them." screenshots don't have same impact. i continue to believe this will be first game to get PS3 some REAL respect. KAZ, "thank you."

LMAO, just caught your post, that's the spirit! Fanboys DON'T enjoy "many" games, they usually "LIVE" for ONE. Seriously, IMO, the debate will be over soon when you get your hands on THE NEW STANDARD.

Easy JAG, he'll come over to the dark side soon enough, and shall succumb to the "MADNESS".:sly:

If SCEA had any brains at all, they would be advertising this game already, all the time. I swear they WANT the game to do poorly in the NA market, if only to justify the previously held (and publicly stated) opinion that the NA market is easily confused.

I think the ones who are confused are the pundits and journalists who test and write about the game-they seem to miss the point entirely, focusing on what you don't get, instead of what you do. People read this stuff and don't bother to form their own opinion because they have no other point of reference. A good TV commercial would show how great the game looks, thereby drawing people in to find how great it is to play.

We will see.

there's still no official release date here, but if the 28th is the date then I can see a push in the next two weeks, also the F1 season starts next weekend and wonder if the push begins then.

I can't speculate on how early the adverts will begin in the usa never watch tv there, but if there any big race events around april then that would be a good time.

I don't think you intended to make it sound that way but your issue is not with Sony or the PS3, but the developers. As the 360 was out first the developers were used to programming for it so they often design for 360 out of comfort/ease and then port to the PS3. The part I bolded is clearly a port issue and has nothing to do with hardware. The Dolby Digital is fine on PS3 in general as shown by many well done blu-ray movies. Surround support is often a source issue more than a hardware issue. For example from the PS2, in Gran Turismo 4 I can hear where cars are around me, in Madden I can hear the crowd behind me. On DVDs I have often thought I heard my wife say something in another room when it was a character off screen. But in many other games and movies I felt as if I was only getting stuff out of my center channel.

As for the Orange Box.....well, Valve whined about the PS3 and just gave the porting job to EA, and we all know how well EA does things.

So, I think your issues of multiplatform stem mostly from the fact that they are ports. I have had few problems from native PS3 games.

Just go to other sites and see how this news has been received. Joystiq themselves called it a demo and made fun of it. And member comments have gone on for pages trashing Sony for charging $40 for a "demo."

I fear what the true reaction will be outside us die hard fans.

If SCEA had any brains at all, they would be advertising this game already, all the time. I swear they WANT the game to do poorly in the NA market, if only to justify the previously held (and publicly stated) opinion that the NA market is easily confused.
As I just said above, and in the GT5:P thread, there is a lot of evidence that the NA market is easily confused. Even here we have had peopel show up and ask if GT5: Prologue was the same as Gran Turismo. We know because we are here talking about it and scouring the interwebs for news. Peopel that do not own a PS3 or aren't ultra-die hard fans, but do enjoy Gran Turismo, may not realize what exactly they are getting.

No, those of us reading gaming Web sites will not be confused, but how many gamers are there that don't do reasearch about games and just pick up something because it had a good review score or a cool looking ad campaign/box art? Too many in my opinion.

We will see.
I hope you are correct, but I fear a backlash when people not paying attention see GT5:P and then buy a PS3 and the game only to find that it isn't what they were expecting. That may be why SCEA has not done an advertising blitz.

So, to answer the original post question: Somewhat. Hardcore fans of the series who have been waiting will buy a PS3 and GT5:P and people not knowing what they are getting will do so as well. But I also know we have members on this very site that have expressed a lack of desire to upgrade until the full version comes out.

If I had to guess it will be a small jump in PS3 sales and then maybe 1 million worldwide total sales. I would say 1.5 million but Prologue won't sell after GT5 comes out.

I just hope we don't lose a few fans who got confused.

Nice post Foolkiller, thanks for posting an articulate point of view. Producing quality of this level is VERY expensive. $40 is the price of being a GT fanboy and taking part in a test-bed. As far as being a 'demo' I feel I got more than I bargained for. Replay value is endless if your're a "driver", and updates, GTTV, are sure to increase the value.
