GT5's new physics engine...

I need 300+ cars because I 'm a car nut who will prob never get a chance to drive most of the cars in the world,Let alone race/thrash @ tracks. The fact of the matter is that the cars in LFS are not modeled after real cars physics (ie a porsche 911 turbo from 80's or a 911 turbo 2007) but generic layouts (FR/FF0MR etc). The thing I like about EPR/GT/FM2 are the fact i can relate to the cars and hope they can portray the differing physics associated with them. You enlighten me to the fact that you can change peramiters in LFS to suit different cars but without the visual aura surrounding the physics LFS will always feel generic. Also the fact that a porsche 911 turbo from 80's and a 911 turbo 2007 share the same layout and also maybe the carry over floor plan (differances in suspention pick ups/components) scimilar aero ect the 2 cars would be very very diferent. My point is is LFS able to replicate those settings for the 2 cars mentioned with skins of said cars without me spend more than 5 minutes per car on it???? Or do I wait till PD buyout LFS and make the most perfect GT ever?????
PS sorry 4 the long post

First of all, I can't belive people were comparing GT4/Forza/Enthusia/Mercedes Racing talking about simulation. I don't know what kind of simulation do you mean, probably there are different "steps" of simulation then.

I personally don't need to see a Porsche in LFS if I can feel how a diff is lossing traction or a wheel is being blocked. That's the difference between "commercial" games wich are selling cars rather driving feeelings. And I could accept now even rFarctor fans need real cars to play it, and that's another difference between a pure simulation and something more "soft".

So, I bet the major part of people who talk about "simulation" will hate "too much simulation" in games like GT or any similar one. Of course it'd be a great idea to have an easy and difficult physics mode in GT, and 500 cars in LFS, but shamely today the reality is not this.

PS. Ah, and just say Polyphony can make the most perfect physics ever if they want. If they consider it's not the best idea, it's because the product is focused on a different kind of gamers.

With two different physics models to choose from they shouldn't have to make compromises in the "professional" engine. There's really no excuse now that there are separate physics models for the mass market and sim crowd... I really do hope that professional mode will be a proper simulation, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Bottom line is, as heard on the vid with the game explanation, there are different beliefs to what a simulation should be. Some want a 'easy' simulation, where the realism is focused towards graphics and such.
Others (where I'm included, seeing as the game's moto is 'the real driving simulator) want the simulation to be focused on the driving itself, being realism on physics and such the main goal. Of course not at the cost of the graphics, at least on my case. But that has never been a problem with GT games, they always were able to squeeze the platform to the last drop on that aspect.

Hence the 2 physics mode from now on. Which proves that a 'die-hard-GT-fan' isn't necessarily a person that wants the game to perform realistically as far as driving goes.

In my opinion, they made the right choice, thus not compromising anything, which will please a vast number of people.

I hope there'll be much difference between the 'pro' and 'easy' mode. I don't want a 'a bit more realistic' one. I want a 'much more realistic one'.

I later i don't like 'pro' mode, i will only have to switch it to 'easy' mode :-)

What about if it will be 'standard', 'sport' and 'professional' modes?

I think there is not a video with someone playing in PRO-mode? Arcade mode looked arcady(in GT perspective) though.

Ok guys...
Here's the deal, this is the GT5 forum.
This thread is thinly veiled as a GT5 physics thread but actually serves as more of a GT4 vs EPR thread.

With that in mind, I'd like to see the topic move very specifically to the subject of GT5's (currently unknown) physics engine.
If the subject of GT4 vs EPR continues I will find the appropriate thread and merge this one with that one.

Remember, this is a GT5 forum and discussing GT4 and EPR is to be done in other places.
Please consider this before continuing the discussion.

I hope the physics of GT5 (which are still unknown) manage to become the actual subject of the thread (although since the physics of GT5 are still unknown I have a hard time seeing how anyone will be able to properly discuss them). :ouch:

Kent - It's all conjectures at this point, and basically discussing pros and cons of what we know so far (or think we know).

Have I missed something? Will GT5 have two different modes? I didn't read news about GT5 in a while... If so, I'll be totally agree with Ske about there won't be any excuse to create a true professional mode then.

In the Leipzig GC was shown ingame videos. In any of that videos you can see the options screen and there is a option called 'Driving physics' where you can switch between 'standard' and other mode (or others, i don't know).

Do you see the option?

For those who missed it/haven't read the whole thread(s):

"Standard" mode is an evolution of GT4/GTHD physics. "Professional" is a brand new physics engine which is supposed to be pretty hardcore according to PD@Leipzig.

Since they already have the standard mode for the "mass market" gamers and open for compromise, I suppose (hope) pro mode will be pretty realistic.
