Well if this is actually something and not just maintenance, then it looks like "Very soon" actually means we won't be waiting too long.

Waiting and seeing though, which is a pain considering its happening on the day I go to school :grumpy:

Two hours maintenance? I think that's a bit short for an update. I'm keeping my hopes down.

Same. We all know where this usually goes when things don't work out.

I sent an GT6-related article to PRC earlier, played TXR0 for a bit (I've doing that and watching Let's & Go!! to counter the GT6 update deprivation), and suddenly this?

Here we go again...

It's likely just for the Bugatti and Hyundai VGTs. Course maker has as much chance of appearing as pigs have of flying.
Relax guys, NO ONE'S is going to HYPE INSANELY after what happened in the last 3 Maintenance...

Has there ever been an update without maintenance though?
No. That's not especially relevant though, and it's exactly what leads to this massive surge of expectation when maintenance occurs.

There have been many maintenance periods without an update - the last ones were exceptionally long and had no associated update. The announcement of a maintenance period is simply the announcement of a maintenance period and should not be taken as an indicator that we "might get new stuff".

Were the two maintenances without updates also affected other games, though? That was also announced by Driveclub's Twitter, IIRC.

Regardless of how many maintenances there may be, maintenance = potential update.

How some people respond to maintenances is the issue here.

Which is why I said:
The last three maintenance periods ought to have rammed home the message by now...

Maintenance means maintenance. It doesn't mean update. Update means update.
About 80% of the problems we see on GTPlanet are members excessively hyping something and then being crushed and disappointed when the hype they created is not fulfilled. Then it becomes Sony/PD/Kaz's fault and it all descends into flaming and name-calling, so we have to lock and warn - and then it's my fault and Jordan's. These are the days GTPlanet becomes a Youtube comments section and I'm not entirely sure anyone enjoys that. Even the people participating in it.

It's getting past time people started managing their expectations rather than hyping them.

Saying maintenance does not mean update, as in at all, is not right though. It means chance of an update.

I still love the GT series and some people here do jump on the train easy, but surely if the developers told their customers what to expect and when, then people wouldn't need to "manage their expectations". Maybe PD should start "managing their game" a little bit better, as that is where the problem starts.

Yes, it is.
It means chance of an update.

That's pretty much an empty phrase. 100% and 0% are both chances - so anything means a chance of anything else.

Maintenance only means maintenance.

No, it isn't.

They tell us when there are maintenance periods. They tell us when there are updates. They are different things - I write news articles about both. This is literally PD telling "their customers" what to expect and when.

The problem is when people smash the two concepts together in their head. And then blame PD for it.

A chance of an update means that the maintenance may have an update. There are also a possibility that's not.

In other words, if the next maintenance didnt contain an update, dont be angry and be severely disappointed, because PD didnt say explicitly about it

Take the "hype train" as a mere entertainment, not an obligation.

Yes, it is.

Updates cannot occur without maintence first. Which is why people look for maintenances. If there is no maintence, there is no update. If there is, there may be one. It's that simple.

Start: 09/30/2015 00:00 EDT
Finish: 09/30/2015 02:00 EDT

in what timezone is this? Im always confused about it

I can remember times where this was true. So, yes.

I know of all but I think 5 of them ended up being updates with them. Also given that it's going to be late wednesday/Thursday which is when the new "seasonals" would of been released it would hint more or less VGT than anything.

And even if there is, there may not be one - so hyping it up as if there could be one is not helpful.

Especially if it then leads to blaming PD for... anything.

At this point in time, PD can do absolutely nothing wrong and still get blamed for things. Just the mentality of certain individuals here in this sub-forum, unfortunately.
And this is the problem. They do not want to implement nothing which will make the game more fun to play.
Example:fuel consumption and tire wear in offline mode. How can GT6 claim for simulation without these two things?!?!
