I, too, have and had a big problem with PD's math. The best way I can explain all the talk/speculation is by this:
1. GT5 had about 850 standard cars. Let's assume KY selected the most famous/unique 100 standard and upgraded them to premium status. Now there are only 750 standard cars.
2. Let's add 750 standards to the 250 premium cars from GT5. We have 1,000 cars.
3. Now, Kaz claimed 200 new cars have been added since GT5. These will be all premium, obviously. Remember, 100 of them have been selected from standard quality to be upgraded to premium (a la LP 400 Countach). 1,000 + 100 = 1,100. Lastly, add the last 100 new cars (never before seen a la KTM XBOX R). 1,100 + 100 = 1,200.
--NOTE: This also satisfies Kazunori's claim that all cars from GT5 will be available in GT6. And finally, the 1,200 car count claim now makes sense.
Recap version: 750 standards
+
250 GT5 premiums
+
200 new cars (100 upgraded from standard + 100 brand new never before seen cars)
= 1,200 total cars in GT6 at launch.
