Drifting in the rain on tsukuba....

Well, I was amazed when I read this, simply wow! If you can show me any other game studio that would recreate the real star locations...

Absolutely impressive. PD didn't need to go this far, but they did. Thanks, PD 👍

And did everyone noticed how many tracks feature time/weather change now? I don't know about you guys, but time/weather change tracks is what kept the game alive and interesting in GT5 for me since it added that element of "surprise." But back then we only had a few, in which not many were really that interesting, other than the Nurburgring. Now we have a lot of them.

My only concern is if they fixed Toscana Tarmac tracks (in they were to be available in the new Course Maker). In GT5 they were too dark and the headlights didn't really make a difference. Others like La Sarthe and Nurburgring were pitch black, but at least you could see very well with the high beams.

I'm happy about this news as well. Twin Ring Motegi....is it time/weather in all 3 tracks??? And with Daytona road track???

What about moonlight? If the stars are in position I think the moon should also, no?

Since the Moon's position (and phase) changes relative the stars, PD would need to model this as a separate object. Same thing goes for the visible planets. So I don't necessarily think this would be included by default as part of the sky.

It should also be noted that the parts of the sky that's visible changes with the seasons, as well as your geography (latitude, for the most part). So, it'll be interesting to see how accurate PD modeled the night sky. What you see should change depending on the time of year and your location. If GT6 calculated the sky based the track being used, and the console date, I would be really impressed!

If they do that, there shouldn't be anyone who calls PD "a horrible studio" :grumpy:

This is partially what I've been thinking. Sort of a "standard, correct" sky map by location rather than something dynamic. If it's all dynamic can you imagine what the load times would (might) be?!

Of course, if it were truly this dark, it would be too dangerous for any meaningful racing. But, this is a game, so some artistic license is to be expected.

I'm not sure you have a proper appreciation of just how terrifying and exhilarating real-life night racing can be (or maybe I'm not understanding what you mean by saying that it's "too dangerous for any meaningful racing"). It is very dark. You have to know the track and take it on faith that the corners will still be where you remember them being.

In all seriousness, this could turn into an interesting feature - the moon will likely have simulated low-gravity effects, so what's to say, just as an arcade/online feature, PD doesn't allow you to experiment with gravity on earth? Maybe even with differing air densities as well? Like driving in a vaccum, leaving you to rely solely on gravitational grip, no downforce. Also, no air resistance, so no drag. With less gravity comes less weight, and therefore better acceleration, at least as long as there's grip to be had. No simulator game has done that before, to my knowledge - but I now of other arcad-y racing games (Motorstorm Apocalypse) have had gravity controls.

I'm legitimately curious to see what PD has planned here, considering we saw footage of the moon in-game. I don't see how it would have a point in the game, but I don't see how it's necessarily a bad idea for a feature, aside from it taking away time from other features... Which is a bit of a biggie.

Warning, warning, Danger Kazanori Yamauchi Danger!

On a serious note, this blew me away, PD once again find a way to sprinkle their magic in to every GT. Regardless of what you think about any of the games as a whole, I would challenge any one to tell me that there wasn't at least one thing in each GT that you have played that didn't make you go wow!

Maybe just maybe they will have a small track on the moon that recreates the moon buggies path. I mean its not like the scenery would be too difficult to render based on the moons very basic landscape. If they can model the night time sky like they have this would or should be a sinch.

I hate to say it, but pCARS has had the same thing since (from memory) about six months after it went public. Accurate star maps, phases of the moon, day lengths calculated according to longitude and date, and so on. The calculations themselves are apparently fairly trivial, rigging it all up to display correctly is harder.

Likely SMS and PD both started this independently of each other, but PD is certainly not the only company to be doing it. They'll likely to be the first to have a game out, but we've been seeing playable examples in pCARS for a long time now so I'm not sure that priority shouldn't be shared between them.

It wouldn't be the first time two groups have arrived at a good idea independently yet near simultaneously.

So they actually removed weather on Eiger Norward short track??

Nope, I think it's just a simple mix up with the logos. If you look at the Snow & Dirt tracks they have Eiger with weather. I think they put the short track logo under Snow & Dirt and the rally track logo under Original

I love that most of the new tracks have weather/time change. Was expecting to see more of the classic original tracks updated though. I've grown up with them so it would be interesting to see them in new light (pun intended). Oh well, for GT7 maybe.

I'm really excited about Daytona in the rain and night. You've got a really fast oval track which is already fun, add some water and you have to actually apply some kind of tactic to your immense repetitive circular spam. Would be pretty fun for NASCAR, though I don't like that so I'll just be sliding cars around it.

I SEE THE BIG DIPPER!!!!!

Daytona Time Change. That, I'm excited about. I'm not really a fan of NASCAR but stock car racing at night invokes some lost memory of playing a NASCAR game on my PSOne. And it's gonna be beautiful on GT6.

Because of my poor vision (retinitis pigmentosa), I have never in my almost 44 years of being on this planet, seen a star or even a constellation with my naked eye. I have seen Jupiter a few years ago when a spotting scope was used and the planet was just above the top of the scope. If I tried to search the sky, I couldn't see it.

If PD can pull this off on PS3, GT7 will be mind blowing on PS4.

Actually, gravity does not affect mass. The weight would decrease, but that mass is still there. Acceleration would be the same, if you could get the grip as you pointed out.

Gahd.

I'm even a physics student...

Nonetheless, it'll still be interesting to see what PD does with this feature...

Looks like they improved it. I remember Nurburgring being pitch dark at night without any stars or anything, looks like thats going to change now. :)

Looks really good, replays will be amazing, but I'm a bit worry about the framerate with all the improvement on graphics.

hotwheels made a theoretical moon racer, it had thrusters on the top and the sides and front to keep the car grounded.
