The decision to not sell GT7 in Russia comes shortly after Ukraine's deputy prime minister urged Xbox and PlayStation to take action, requesting both companies halt support for Russian gamers. Without any official word from Sony, it isn't clear whether this is a direct reaction to that request or if PlayStation has taken it upon itself to refrain from launching the game in Russia. -- source: thegamer.com
It's **** up..

Well some people are going through worse than that, like having their homeland invaded by an authoritarian country so you should consider yourself lucky.

I'm sure some Ukrainians were hyped about Horizon, GT7, Elden Ring aswell.
Totally Agree.

Sure, but couldn't find any info that the other games were also blocked.

I read about this. Mostly meant to block messaging services on PS and Xbox. Also things in-game like GT photo sharing.

Just my pennies worth think this thread should be locked in case someone says something they shouldn’t. There are other places to talk this over.
This is a valid GT7 topic, and as such this is the right place to talk about it. We also have a wider "Russian Invasion of Ukraine" topic in the Opinions & Current Events forum.

The AUP is of course in force across the entire site, so if "someone says something they shouldn't" it doesn't matter which thread they say it in...

When the USA attacked and starts invasion in Afghanistan, without any NATO authorization / mandate, don't remember any sanctions against american gamers...
Quite interesting. But this is how the double standard works in the world.

Anyway, it's a gaming site, so I think we should discuss about the games and not anything else.

About as much as the average Ukranian, yet here we are.
I was specifically referring to the fact that the game is unavailable in Russia. I'm not aware the same is true in Ukraine although I could be wrong. My point is that punishing Russian gamers for a war that they didn't necessarily want, makes little sense.

That's what the leadership they have got them. I'm much more compassionate about Ukranians getting their country turned to ruins than Russians that can't play a videogame.

I think the Russian people probably have more to worry about than a game at the moment. Their country is in shambles because of a corrupt leader. Does it suck for the people who want to play it? Of course, but this is just a very minor consequence out of the slew of consequences they're enduring because of who's in charge.

That's not how NATO works.

Just wait until you scroll down a bit and discover all the motoring, motorsport, music, TV, movies, computing, and - yes - news, opinion, and current events forums, some of which are busier than many of the gaming sections.

GTPlanet is not just a "gaming site".

Finally a sensible comment, hats off to you sir

It’s a consequence of the war, not a punishment. I bet it’s not fun to be a gamer in Russia now, but that’s entirely Putin’s fault.

This decision is completely ******! 😡

So while you have innocent anti war middle class citizens in Russia who are either depressed or angry over what’s going on between the two countries and make up for 90% of Russia, because Russia bad, taking away escapism which comes in the form of video game entertainment is apparently a good solution according to the prime minister.

I stand with Ukraine and my thoughts and prayers goes out to everyone affected by this war but this decision to remove GT7 from Russia PS Store is a certified bruh moment.

True. I preordered the digital version of GT7, downloaded it and thought I'll play it after work, but then found the game locked and money returned to my PS Store wallet. The game was just removed from the Russian Store. But other games were available to buy, and the game servers (including GT Sport) still work. Some other Russian and Belarusian players said they were able to start the game after midnight of the launch day and play for few hours, but then were kicked out mid-game and weren't able to start GT7 again.

Possibly, this could have happened because of ruble devaluation - the base PS4 version costed 4999 rub, which used to be roughly $65 before the sanctions hit, but now (as I am typing it) it's only $40.3. Which is why the game may return to the Russian PS Store later, but at higher ruble price.

The Russian division of Sony said - "GT7 launch is delayed in Russia. Details about release are expected later". The physical copies also haven't arrived in the retail stores.

However, there is still a way to buy the game using a foreign Store account. At least one simracing YouTube streamer got a copy from UK Store and it's playable on the Russian account.

**** the sanctions, I'm in!

I bought GT7 from the Polish PS Store and it works for Russian account (Russian language is also available). But, since Visa and Mastercard systems stopped working in Russia, I had to use some unorthodox payment method...

Anyway, it was worth it. I lost the preorder bonus though, but starting the game with little money and no decent cars feels like the old GT1-4 experience. (Yes, I didn't know I could transfer money from GT3 when I started GT4...)

I think this is unfair... Like banning athletes etc. This is how you try to escalate the situation. I hope russian gamers get yo play it soon. But good luck on march 11 when Russia disconnects from the global internet and the internet blows up

Anyone who thinks that getting around sanctions designed to punish a country engaging in war is something worth bragging about deserves to suffer even worse sanctions, since the message behind the sanctions quite clearly hasn't reached them yet.

And especially writing "**** the sanctions" is really inappropriate.

**** Russia, this disgusting war, and this display of disrespect for the situation as a whole.

**** Russia? Really? Did all their citizens collectively agree to invade? Is the Russian populous just a huge hivemind?

You're getting antsy with this guy for getting round a pathetic gaming sanction that will do absolutely nothing for the victims of war.

The guy was born in a country with a lunatic dictator, he didn't choose that, so stop getting all high-and-mighty with it.

If I was in his position I'd be saying ** the sanctions too, ** Putin, and **** you. 🤷‍♂️
