I bought GT7 last week cheap off ebay so I can start collecting some cars to try in VR. I must say though I'm finding the game leaves me underwhelmed. The force feedback is terrible and the 'racing' is to put it bluntly "sh£t". I've only done a handful of the menu thingy's and hopefully it gets better. Also whatever drugs the person who thought up music rally was on I want some, a total waste of time. Hopefully the immersion makes up for the games shortfalls. At the moment I trying to force myself to keep playing until I get some decent cars. On positive note the race and replay graphics are as expected excellent, and the sounds seem to have improved. I know they are aimed at different audiences but anyone remotely interested in fantastic edge of seat racing with intelligent AI and the best force feedback of any racer I've had, should get ACC it blows this game out of the water.

About that report earlier about sony cutting production of psvr2.

Official statement from Sony

Amazing that some will just make things up just to get clicks.
It was initally hard to believe since wherever you go on the internet, it's full of "I just preordered mine" comments.

I just preordered mine as well lol. Bloomberg is a wall street run dumpster. Zero creditability.

Music rally actually could be fun in VR! Maybe it was the reason do them in the first place. Some very expensive cars are free to drive in that mode.

I hope they will add the Ferrari Spider/Aperta versions. Roof down: more and louder enginesounds, freedom feel and view up.

It's standard for VR, and the depth perception is impossible to portray in YouTube trailers and streams. It's the biggest "wow" part of VR and it's hard to imagine without actually trying it.

Only tangentially related to GT7, but it seems like PS VR2 is selling significantly under expectations and Sony slashed their production in half. Hope it can get some momentum going through WoM.

Marketing campaign is ramping up. Loads of preview vids from tech sites and streamers.

Word of mouth and demo units will be more effective anyway. It’s really hard to show the immersion and quality of visuals when all people can see is the “flat” footage on the screen.
I've long thought the problem VR faces is exactly that--it's impossible to convey what it's like to someone without that person actually putting on a headset and seeing it for themselves. I really didn't think much of the idea for a long time, till one day a couple/few years ago I was able to experience it. It's pretty damn amazing, but the difficulty in trying to get someone to wrap their head around what it's like is at least one big reason it hasn't had a bigger popularity surge.

I have a DD pro with the 8nm boost kit, and even with maxed out settings I have no clipping issues except in some hairpins or really tight corners with certain cars. When it happens I adjust the settings and it usually doesn't happen anymore. Anyway it's a ponctual issue that would happen with any other wheel and on any other game unless you have a wheel with very high torque like the 20+ nm DD wheels for PC.

It's not normal that your wheel clips that easily and almost everywhere except in a few corners of the game. Maybe your problem is not with the ingame settings, but most likely with your wheel settings. It probably happens easier if you have the 5nm version, but the DD pro feels way better than the other wheels I've tried on GT7 and should definitively not clip that easily.

EDIT: By the way, here's a very good video about the ingame FFB settings in GT7:

Great post. Thanks. I have a DD Pro 8nm with LC as well. Love it. Would have waited for the Logitech, tho, if I'd known. Oh well!

Like you, have preordered the VR2, and can't wait. I think it will be a huge leap forward for GT7, and perhaps simracing in general.

What will be your first car and track combo in VR? :D
I guess I will be doing some kind of full grid Group 3 race probably :D

Bloomberg is a joke, clickbait at its best!

Thanks mate!

The Logitech seems really cool, but the wheel+pedals are almost the same price as the DD pro with 8nm/load cell bundle + shifter and sidebreak.

And there's still no news about shifter or handbrake compatible with the Logitech DD.

It is gonna be totally awesome! More hyped than ever for gt7 psvr2. Basically this is what i’v been waiting almost 30 years for. This tipping point in hq VR racing. 🦾
Glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. Been waiting for this for so long. Never got to experience GTS in VR ( or anywhere else) so this will be the first time. I'm so stoked, time is dragging ass

I’ve more than once had it in my cart on the PlayStation store, then I stop myself. It’s expensive, there are no other launch games I care about … I need confirmation GT7 is truly epic without issues before I buy this thing at launch. At this point, if the reviews are great as I hope, I’ll get it a week or so later than I would if I pre-order. Better that than to get it and find out it’s not ready for prime time. Then it would become nothing but a paperweight until other games come out.

I want to go into a three week coma at this point. Not much longer to wait!

Unless there's a delay...

Sorry for putting that into the universe.

Piggybacking the open cars in VR. All the MX-5s, formula cars, etc. I'd expect those to be fun. Also thinking VGTs might spike in purchases.

The Alpine VGTs with their bubble cockpits. LamboLambo, Porsche VGTs and maybe even the Chaparral. VR may make it worthwhile for me to try these cars, with a proper cockpit view.

Classic cars would have to be a treat. Not just my V8 collection, but those pre-war machines. I'm still not going to grind for those, but driving one would have to up the speed factor in VR.

Lastly, proper enclosed GT and Sports race cars. Seeing the cords moving around, the dials, in-car environments like the Super Silhouette, Ford GTE and GR010. Should be real good for many of us new to the VR experience.

Man, jumping into VR racing directly with GT7, lucky you! 😁
You'll have a blast!

So close still so far...

Was talking about it a few months ago, but you have a better speed sensation with the racing kart than with the Tomahawk in VR 😅 It doesn't make miracles and most VGTs are still not very interesting to drive. Some of them have pretty cool cockpits, but if I was you I'd definitively stuck with the V8 and pre-war machines, those cars feel like 10 times better in VR 👍

Pre-war: I'd give my left kidney for a Railton, Auto Union, Bentley Blower, Bugatti ...

I'm off now, to self-flagellate.

What about this scenario: Because of Eye tracking + Foveated rendering the quality of the PSVR2 version of GT7 is even higher than the Standard PS4/PS5 flatscreen mode. Everything needs to be rendered at Quality X in flatscreen mode. Then again PSVR needs Rendering of focusArea only but x2. How much does the actual chips in the PSVR2 unit take over CPU/GPU load from making it stereoscopic?
We might be in for a very pleasant surprise. Actually GT7 is the 1st first party AAA title that gets PSVR2 Mode for the full game. This will set the benchmark for PSVR2 modes of coming fully support AAA titles such as GTAV and Possibly a future Battlefield and/or Killzone title. HYPPPPPPPEEED

From what I have heard from people who have tried it, the visual fidelity is similar to pancake. I am also interested to see how GT7 turns out.

Been thinking a lot about this too!

According to Meta the foveated rendering can reduce compute load by up to 95%, so what you're saying seems totally legit. I was talking about it in the last video I made and came to the conclusion that GT7 could perform as well or even better as on flat screen. Not in terms of definition, since the pixels will still look a little bigger than on a 4K TV due to the proximity of the screen, but in terms of fps I'm pretty sure that it could outperform the TV mode, even with the stereoscopics.

1.jpg

When you look at the side mirror closely you can see some big pixels while the steering wheel line is sharp as hell. But the foveated rendering seems really weak and the image looks surprisingly neat compared to what you usually see with FR on other headsets. Which makes me think that they lowered the effect of FR on purpose to make it look attractive even in captures. If they really pushed it, the large audience which doesn't know much about FR would just say that it looks like PS2 graphics and it would be a really bad buzz.

With the level of detail we see in this screenshot, I'm not sure that there would be any difference in terms of performances, but with a stronger FR it could be huge.

I wonder if they could add some FR settings to retail games, like a "capture mode" with limited FR but still looking great for people watching it on flat screen, and a "performance mode" with maxed FR and stable 90 or 120fps even on the biggest games. That would be a thing for sure! Even if you would see fist-sized pixels while looking at the captures... 😅

I would rather lower expectation a little ;) Listened to monday psvr without parole stream with some devs and he said from his quick benchmarks eye tracking foveated rendering increase perfm. by around 30% (tough for sure will vary from game to game).

Well this anxious waiting has caused me to go back and revisit my time in VR with ACC. The official Gran Turismo championships are going to be awesome in VR. I will probably look for a leagtto join, too. Here are some teasers for those of you who don't know what to expect. Keep in mind I had the graphics settings cranked WAY down for these videos. Hope you enjoy them. It's been fun for me revisiting and hoping for a good GT7 implementation as well other games later on!

ACC online race. This is with the PSVR headset LOL. The league races were much better but I was afraid to have the capture software running for stability's sake:

Nice footage. I watched some people playing ACC on VR with beefy rigs and GT7 with PSVR2 really should a great glowup. The difference in visual fidelity is insane actually.

Thanks for the footages! 🔥🔥

I still didn't buy dirt rally 2.0, but if they make a PSVR2 upgrade it's an instant buy for me.

But how do you play ACC on PSVR? Is there a way to have tge PSVR work on PC, or is there a VR mode for PS4 that I never noticedt? 😯

I would expect WRC 23 to be more of a VR candidate than DR2.0.

There is a driver called iVRy on Steam that enables PSVR compatibility with Steam VR.

Awesome footage man. This makes me so pumped up for this. I remember being blown away with how realistic it felt inside GTS with VR. PSVR2 will without a doubt get me back into the competitive side of things. I’m already anticipating hemorrhaging DR like crazy 😂

Thanks for the reply! Not buying a PC anytime soon but it's good to know, probably they manage to do the same with PSVR2 at some point.

I'm in for a WRC 23! 😎 VR could be a great boost for the PS5 version of ACC too.
