Makes it even more special. SONY & PD did it. And it's super daupe. Now just push it a little more into PRO spec without reprojection, and as far as I'm concerned we are there. Then de VR racing tech I dreamt of 30 years ago is here. Actually even with reprojection it's already there..

Fully agree. I have no interest in PS5 games outside of GT7 and with PSVR2, even with it's flaws, it is a phenomenal experience. If it gets abandoned I would be truly sad for what could have been but I will stick with what we have. But we know that optimizations for GT7 with the Pro are coming. Even if there is no specific change for VR (which would be surprising) it would get downstream improvements by association.

I was on the fence about VR for a long time, but now I am at the point where if there was a PSVR3 or PSVR2 Pro (not going to happen) that leveraged the power of the Pro and had pancake lenses (over fresnel lens) I would buy instantly even if it costs $1000. I remind myself that each time I get in my rig it is cheaper than a $3000 track day....

If you set up a custom race on the Nurburgring Endurance layout with the rolling start spacing set to 50, you get a guaranteed frame drop at the kink after turn 1. You could objectively test for frame drops there.

I initially only bought the headset for GT7, but the grind for progression in GT7 is kind of annoying so I started playing other VR titles. There are other games that are actually more fun than GT7 (IMO).

My biggest gripe with the headsets and GT7 is that it seems like there aren't a lot of interest in making it used in competition formats. It's amazing to me that there isn't more emphasis on using them outside of this forum thread. Even a lot of the big youtubers don't even use them for the most part when I watch recent videos.

I probably am most excited about aces of thunder when it comes to using the PSVR2...

Actually I've no idea.

Near me at Road America track days start at $395 not including a car. Now my daily driver is a Mercedes Sprinter RV so it would be like driving the Sambabus on track, so I would have to find one where sport/race cars are included. Last time I checked they started in the four figures for anything that wasn't like four laps.

Anyway, my point is, I would love to experience a true track day but the cost is prohibitive when i can run the VR with a nice rig which gets a long way there and gives you so much more variety.

Which will sadly come to an end one day because of the online-requirement....

I think in that regard, we should all feel a level of disappointment with the current state of affairs/support for VR.
 
Am I late to the party or is there a big difference between prioritizing framerate vs prioritizing ray tracing when playing with the PSVR2?

I thought this setting didnt matter for us VR2 users, but after getting my PS5 Pro, playing GT7 for a few time trial laps I was feeling underwhelmed with the PS5 Pro (I realize it has yet to be patched) but I was really trying to find a difference. I have always had the game setting to prioritize Ray Tracing as I figured that it would look better while watching my replays on my TV.

I changed this setting to prioritize Frame Rate, and went back in for a few more time trial laps. It seemed SIGNIFICANTLY better! Is this something to do with the PS5 Pro? Or have I been nerfing my quality accidentally this whole time?

Oh I certainly find a lot of value in the VR as well. Bang for the buck, the benefits are hard to beat. Using the game appropriately, you can gain a lot of from sim driving that translates to real life. I use VR nearly exclusively, and the immersion it provides has kept me interested in getting seat time on the rig, which is often the biggest challenge.

You don't need anything special to run a trackday, though a sprinter van is going to be excluded from anything but parade laps. I've run my stock 2004 Accord winter beater at several trackdays, and even loaned it to a friend for a few trackdays. Just tossed a set of pads on the front, all season tyres and all. A week and half ago I ran my also stock 1999 Civic, which if you don't get seasick from the body roll is still a pretty fun car lol.

You can drive the sprinter on track for paced laps at Track Night in America, but they don't run at RA, I think Blackhawk Farms would be the closest. Their paced track tour laps are free, and because they are run at highway speeds you do not need any safety equipment, not even a helmet.

There are shops that rent cars for trackday use, though they are usually going to be race cars rather than street cars. A spec miata runs about $800 per day for hpde use in the Northea$t. Not cheap, but I generally wouldn't recommend anyone rent a race car for an hpde anyway. For a number of reasons.

Interesting. Just before I got the Pro I switched to prioritizing Ray tracing mode. I used to have it set to Framerate prior.
And I do see an improvements with the pro. Will switch to Framerate mode tomorrow and test between the to mode if there is a difference. Since there is no patch yet some undocumented behavior can occur. I'll post my observations between the 2 modes tomorrow.

This setting only affects replays and nothing else.
 
It would be borderline criminal not to improve PSVR2 performance with the GT7 Pro patch but if they do I'd keep expectations in check.

I don't see how PSSR is of any benefit because it would produce too many inconsistencies between the two rendered images (for each eye) and just end up blurring everything worse than it already is.

To eliminate reprojection they'd have to increase the framerate 50% to hit 90fps which is a hard task without making cutbacks somewhere else. PD don't consider reprojection a big issue in racing games anyway and I tend to agree that the benefits probably outweigh the negatives. Shame the replays look super blurry.

Image quality is already excellent, especially some of the car interiors. Distant object clarity is more likely restricted by the headset screen resolution rather than the console's ability to deliver a higher resolution image. I'd expect some reduced pop-in, maybe better lighting and shadows. But that's about it.

GT Sport was an online only game, but the final patch enabled offline play and saves. No guarantee they'll do that for GT7 of course, but I'd be surprised if they deviated from this end-of-life approach.
 
PSVR2 is about to get a $200 price cut according to an inside leak Eurogamer says.
UK retailer already has price cut on the Pro, and there will be a new price cut on the amateur PS5 too.
Hopefully will see some more people join us soon. What with that and GT7 demo also, Sony is doing the business.
 
There are no doubt more fun experiences and games for VR out there. That's not the argument here.

As we all know:
VR is a subset of the gaming environment that is still growing, and cannot be considered as popular or widespread just yet. It's growing fast yes. But is not part of the majority... And typically if people have VR, the would have only one set, and not two.

If they already have the fakebook one or apple, they would not necessarily get the PSVR2 or vice versa...
So to expect PSVR2 to be extremely popular or even beat the other VR set, it is completely wrong at this point.


For those who already are on the PSVR2, it is further down below, another subset of VR owners would be onto car racing.

Although it is grown rapidly understandably, but truth is the PSVR2 for GT7 is an even smaller niche market at the moment.

In the grand skim of things, PSVR2 is still at its infancy and i don't think the Sony team is expecting otherwise...

So for the moment it is slowly growing and Sony is not so much abandoning it, but rather stop further investment, letting time and the set grown naturally onto the market.

The black Friday price will no doubt help get a few several thousand PSVR2 headsets find a home for this holiday season.

PSVR2 is growing very slowly, and the game catalogue is growing as well.


Video Car games and VR goes hand and hand. If Forza could do it, they would too, but it is right now and investment too large for them considering how much smaller the Forza crowd is.

I for one am extremely glad That Sony and PD have invested into this new way of playing GT, the best and honestly the ultimate best way to do it, something i never thought but knew no other better way of playing GT.

Since Playing GT2 on the joysticks, GT7 with a steering, cockpit, and VR is truly the culmination over 25 years of playing , this is truly the best way to play GT7.

Sorry for those who are not playing this way, I wish you all could.

GT8 will have full VR support in have no doubt. So much potential, truly an advantage.

This is why GT7 still sell for $69!brand new, the same way that Mario Kart 8 never goes on sale...

The pick up rate of GT games is not slowing down, I am sure Sony and PD can confirm with their data.

No wonder they are working on the little "My First GT" ....

Building up another generation of fans for the next 25 years...

Those who complain how GT7 is so bad and boring right now, you obviously never grew up with older games like the first GT and GT2.

Yet those games absolutely engraved onto my memories as being the best games I have ever played, and I started playing with the NES and battery operated hand held...

So I know a thing or two about bad games, and GT7 ain't one of them...

You didn't grow up with the old TV, you can't appreciate what you have right now.

Back then never ever complained about what i had, playing of the NES with only two buttons.

So now VR2 is totally a game changer, so don't say that is already dead.. it ain't.

I'm as old if not older than you by a fraction and what you say is very true but do bear in mind that people without the same frame of reference can only go on what they know and not our nostalgia.

If you were 20 years old, you'd only know colour handhelds, HD graphics so you can only judge from that.

We did complain back then about 2 buttons on the NES, we did want the street fighter 6 button joystick in our living rooms. That is how we got progress in the home/living room market.

VR is for the time being always going to be niche compared to the wider audience purely because it is a polarising technology some people can't play (motion sickness, affordability etc)

I thought PSSR would really benefit Psvr2 however, I've recently learned that even DLSS doesn't do much for PCVR.

Sony have said that PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution will work on PSVR2 games in the future, so there's still hope.

Some of us are old enough where our first console was Pong, I think on an original 1977 Atari. Boy, I thought that was awesome.

When I was 13 or so my family had the Pong console. Just 2 dials to move the paddles and maybe 6 game modes. This thing.

Hi guys. Sorry to ask this question here. I admit I'm in a very grim mood.
I was playing GT7 2 days ago. Quit the game, turned off the headset, and now when I plug it on again I get this message.
I've connected it on 2 pcs and Windows recognises some device is connected but the port can't give enough power.
Already unplugged and plugged again the headset portion of the cable and no luck. No red light on the headset either.
Since I play on my living room I have to disconnect it. I have been using it without problem since launch.

Any clues? The USB-C Port on the ps5 seems to work. At least charges controllers and phones.

I don't know what to do, apart from testing it on another ps5. And here they don't abound. Neither do warranty :(

I remember playing with the Magnavox Odyssey as a kid at my Grandmother's house late 70's, early 80's. It was pretty lame even back then, it's a cool memory though. That's not my pic but my dad looked just like that back then with the chops. 😆

I'm also one of those old timers who finds it hard to complain about what we have today (but I still do sometimes), it's pretty mind blowing and beyond my wildest dreams from what I could imagine as a kid. Well at least what we can get for the price, I definitely thought about VR sim racing as a concept but never thought it would be so easily accessible and relatively cheap like it is today. I think we're pretty lucky to get GT in VR like we have it even if it never improves beyond the current state.

BTW I haven't even hooked up my PSVR2 or wheel to PS5 Pro yet and I've had it since Nov 7th. My back went out bad and I've just been playing flat screen with a controller. Hope to check out PSVR2 on it soon but it sounds like there's not much difference yet. I'm hoping that patch coming soon will do something positive for VR in GT7, even without PSSR being used. PS5 Pro CPU is only 10% faster though so if GT7 VR is up against some kid of CPU bottleneck we might never see 90 FPS w/o reprojection with the same visual quality we see now until PS6 comes out with a much faster processor. Hopefully they can crank up the visuals at least.

Doesn’t sound great. Have you tried flipping the cable? As stupid as it sounds - sometimes it helps. Has the port gotten dirty maybe? Restarted the console all the way?

Yes, tried it and no luck. I still have hope it's something with the ps5 port... They are easier and cheaper to find than psvr2 over here...
