Reprojection looks great in some cars w minimal hud glitching. Colors are a bit stronger and more contrasty. Non repro looks a bit washed out. VR replay really improved, really find this more enjoyable than before. Yes weird shadows and other issues but after some more time, I’m mixed but overall positive. Hope for further refinement but I can enjoy it now

So the Pro adds value if you have the cash IMO

Hi everyone, I see black friday sales with the PSVR 2. I just wanted to know if there is a consensus on the question "Are we faster or slower when playing the psvr2 ? or it just doesn't matter ? ".
I'll add my 2 cents here as well though I think the consensus is universal. You'll be slower at first but then get faster. Will you be faster than your current 2D experience? Hard to say. After 6 months I am definitely faster than 2D which feels so wrong to me now, but if I had never experienced VR, I would probably be just as fast in 2D as that is what I would be used to.

But speed is not the question here. Speed comes with comfort and experience. I will say that the VR experience is unlike any other. You can't gauge it from YT videos. You have to be IN it to feel it. Driving will just feel more natural. Braking points will come from intuition and sense of speed/distance perception rather than markers, turn in will be more natural and so the driving will feel more normal.

I just did the X2019 at Nürbergring in the new special in both 2D and VR. In 2D it feels frenetic and slightly out of control - A wild ride. In VR, you feel as if you are driving slower and more in control. The track undulations and curves are more natural and less intimidating. I totally crushed my time in VR over the 2D drive.

There will be downsides. You do not get splits in VR in Sport. I think they do that deliberately as honestly, I think VR would give too much of an advantage otherwise. While at times it can be frustrating to not have split in races and TTs, I've actually come to embrace it and worry less and just drive instead.
Time improvement will come later..

Immersion is the name of the VR2 game, and on that regard, there is simply no equal.
This.
There's people like @djolliea who routinely rank in the top 50, sometimes top 10 worldwide while exclusively going in VR. I do the same (the VR thing, not the top 10 thing ... ;))
Yes, VR will not overcome lack of talent, of which I have a lot! Lack of, that is, not talent. :D But at least you will enjoy looking around at the interior details of the car while being slow!

EDIT:

I would add that if you try to transition straight from a successful 2D account to VR you will probably be frustrated. What I found worked for me was that I set up a brand new VR account and started the game all over again. This way you actually get to enjoy exploring the game anew as your confidence and experience grows without worrying about tanking a A or A+ account. Also, you may find it is really fun driving slow, boring cars again as you can drive around tracks while checking out all the interior details.

After six months my Normsk_VR account is closing in on my Normsk account. I got to DR A a lot faster on Normsk_VR than Normsk (experience helps) but single player is still a bit behind though I am actively working that.

The TLDR. If you are questioning your commitment to GT7 and it is feeling stale, PSVR2 will transform it for you and make the game new all over.

My feelings on VR in a nutshell:

If GT8 (or whichever GT game comes on PS6) isn’t VR ready on day 1, I’m not buying it.

Once you play the entirety of Gran Turismo in VR, there’s no going back.

Can any other pro-users comment on draw distances? Theres been a few comments regarding this, but not a lot

So far since the update I have only done the celebration races and the RBR TT in VR since the update. On my Pro I have the enhanced VR enabled.

I have not noticed pop in (though I was not looking for it) and the overall clarity seems improved and sharper. If you look for it you can see shimmer and some artifacts here and there but I do not notice them while racing. Overall I think it is a good improvement over the OG5. Ground breaking? No, but improved? Yes.

Exactly.

Draw distance and higher resolution at the horizon is really what I am looking for.

If there is good improvement, maybe I will consider the Pro.
Until then.... Am fine as is right now.

i made the same request before 1.54, now i make it again:

I'd like PSVR2 and PS5 Pro owners to run a test. Take the 2018 Nissan GT-R GT3 (gr.3) and let me know if you can now clearly read the numbers on the speedometer. Before, they were almost illegible.

Thanks in advance!

Is it true that the vr HUD is unusable now in sports mode races on the PS5 Pro with this update?
No.

When I first looked at it it (in the Yaris TT) I was getting double vision, but then on my second session in different cars, everything was clear and like normal.

It may be true that certain cars have issues with it depending on where it is placed on screen. In the 2019X and the new Porsche I were driving yesterday it was fine, in the Yaris for the TT it was not good..

My brother advised me to use an open car at first to get the hang of it.

So got out the Honda RA272 for a few laps around Tsukuba.

Although I am still about 2 seconds off my qualifying time for Spa daily race.

Great fun but is going to take a bit to get used to.

Going to be hard to have a sip of a drink on the long races though
it isn't .... you will know where to put your cup/thermos and drink it by sipping it and not hitting the head set ....you just have to do it long enough to do it blind

It's cheaper to rebuy the game digitally than to buy the disc drive (if you can even find one in the UK).
Welcome to the future, it's horrible.
I bought the ps5 pro yesterday and like a moe-rawn i paid double for a new disc drive from ebay so I would be bale to play my disc and muy 561 cars ..... I was today days old when I realized buying a digital copy was cheaper (I was not aware garages were personal to the account and not the disc/game) .... I will be 52 in a week ... this should explain my incompetence.

Regarding the new shaking car effect, I think its a change to the physics as I took a standard MX5 on track and though it still had some shaking it wasnt as bad as the MX5 with mods installed.
This is both while the car is stationary so not related to driving influences. The car is perfectly steady in the VR showroom, so it could be intentional vibration but it is a bad effect. Could be an oversight on the update.

I have taken steps to maximise my enjoyment of the current version by doing races which dont require any HUD information and using new mode graphics. And to avoid certain cars that vibrate too much the view.
Still getting slow mirrors with lots of pop out. And nasty rain spray effects.

This is mixed bag in my use so far. There are a large variety of assets that are affected, probably partly why the large DL

Here’s what I’ve noticed after a few hours:

Distance clarity seems now to be limited by OLED panel pixel size - when I look to the distance everything that is rendered seems sharper, but more detail than the pixels can render is not going to happen obviously. Stars, track elements, cars etc are sharper right to the limit of this. So nice to look down the track and see more than a smudge

Large textured 3d objects like trees, rails etc, seem about the same, maybe better in resolution at a specifc distance but when they pop or shift seems to depend on viewing angle, as the higher resolution sweet spot seems bigger. Draw distance for vehicle features like vents and spoilers pop in mostly the same as before. If you watch a VR replay down the straight w open cars, the heads pop on to the driver fairly close in. Also pause a vR replay in the open some where and look around - you’ll see how the textures change

Some of the improved clarity came w just using the Pro, so there’s some GPU scaling priority algo in play - its not an all or nothing thing - maybe both rule and load dependant

Not science, just impressions FWIW

VR Replay is so much better now. I can focus on a car and actually see the car and decals now. That VRPRS On is the key. During my night time races at Nurb 24H, Bathurst, Road Atlanta, it’s incredible how crisp the cars are. It’s definitely clearer than PS5. In the rain, the spray is pixelated, but the frame rate didn’t drop at all in my eyes. I start last so all the cars ahead bunched up didn’t slow anything down.
The night sky. The constellations look much brighter. Not crystal clear, but improved.

Overall, the rendering seem more natural. Raced at Goodwood and while driving, I looked across to the other side of the circuit and could see a helicopter over some planes. Background didn’t look blurry.
Biggest difference, for those that race at Goodwood. The freakin’ lap counter! Totally legible! It was a blurry mess with the PS5. With PS5P, it’s clear. Being able to focus on something and not see the ghosting is so good.

Put it this way, the game and console aren’t going anywhere. If you can wait then that’s fine. If you spend your money and upgrade that’s fine too. I guess having the PS5P now, you can experience the improvements and maybe already have the console for when GTA6 comes out. If someone doesn’t have PSVR2 or PS5, I’d recommend PSVR2+PS5P. They’d have the best version annd only move forward. Other than that, for those that have PSVR2 and a PS5, maybe the PS5P gets a price drop in a few months and get it then. 1200 Aussie bucks for essentially the VRPRS On? I’m good with my choice.

I dont know if its been mentioned before but I just realised that the sound of the windscreen wipers swooshing is directional, If i turn my head left I hear wipers in my right ear and vice versa, pretty nice. A reward for sitting in your car in the rain doing nothing.

I’m just downloading GT7 on ps5pro; quick question.. are people choosing prioritise frame rates or prioritise graphics/ray tracing?

I'm using prioritise graphics/ray tracing. I have not noticed a downside yet but prior to this I only raced at 60-Hz anyway in non VR (My TV does not support 120Hz or VRR)

W/O reprojection on - in prioritise framerate I thought the image did not look quite as nice, a bit contrastier, tonal changes not as smooth. In graphics priority I did not yet notice any/much frame rate drop that was enough to care about but early days

I’ve set to frame rate and I do notice a little bit of choppiness(not bad at all) with Frame Rate selected) when set to Ray Tracing.

200 bucks off

VR Replay is so much better now......
Every single time I've tried to test out VR Replay, I get a short black screen, a pause, then it loads up a regular replay in a floating window shown through my VR goggles. 🤷‍♂️

I bought a Pro and tried FC25, F1 24 and of course GT7 & PSVR 2.

Honest thoughts. Improvements across all 3 games are really minimal. Like playing on PC and you move the graphics quality up a level from high to ultra. That’s the sort of upgrade you’re getting across the board.

The base PS5 does the job absolutely fine just like running a PC game on high settings.

You are not missing out if you don’t have a PS5 Pro.

The upgrade is NOT worth the cost imo.
Keep your money in your pocket unless you can really afford it. The Pro is nice to have but absolutely not a necessity.

I also posted in this post.

The description I put on the video:

There has been a lot of debate on social media on if the PS5pro is worth the upgrade for PSVR2 when playing Gran Turismo. In this video, I compare two circuit experiences; sector 2 of Circuit de la Sarth and sector 1 for Tokyo Expressway Central Clockwise and perform a side by side comparison of them driven on the PS5 and PS5 Pro.On both consoles you can only record on 1080p and even then it is not truly representative of what you see i the VR headset. To minimize video quality lost, I recorded in Playstation's 1080 MP4 and then imported into FInal Cut Pro and edited and uploaded to YouTube in ProRes 422. The result? The PS5Pro is better then the PS5 but the difference on recorded video is so subtle, most people would argue that it is not worth it. What is missing is what is seen in the headset. There are clear improvements there, but again the value proposition is limited.

In summary, the difference is extremely subtle to say the least on recorded video, but there is more of a visual difference in the headset. I am convinced now that capture of the VR experience is performed seperately to the images projected in the headset. At Circuit de la Sarth, for instance, in the headset you will see popup of trees down the Mulsanne straight, quite horrifically in places, and in PS5 pro you will still see pop up but less so and mostly in the far distance. The recording does not capture any of that. It does capture the slight sharpness improvements and the ray tracing though.

If you are on the fence about getting the PS5 Pro this will not be enough to convince you.

For those who have not yet taken the plunge into the PS5 Pro pool of unsure waters, after my first few PS5/PSVR2 races with the 1.54 update, I am very pleased to report that Polyphony Digital has not let us down - the GT5 update placebo effect is still just as effective as ever. The in-car dashboard details are very slightly less blurry; the pop-in detail effect on other cars now happens slightly sooner; and the ghosting effect when looking sideways during a race is a little less noticeable. I'm very pleased that in the big rush to get the PS5 Pro out the door, they have not let us PS5 owners down 👍

Early doors for me having just run a few experiments; it is definitely better and I see the POTENTIAL for this to be a match made in heaven, but the patch feels the most beta of any patch and definitely seems to be rushed for Black Friday week/Christmas which is a shame.

Still fiddling with settings but I think when they get the ps5 pro reprojection mode sorted it will be epic. Other cars and details look great (when the textures fully load, I’m having the same problem as others.. car parts not loading till late, fuzzy cloud of blur underneath other cars sometimes), hit the shakiness of the car/view is horrid as is the mess of the lap timer/counter too. Seems to be worse on some cars/tracks than others. I did the 2 lap Nurburgring GP race in a modified E46 and with the slight drizzle conditions it was undrivable With the shakiness. Prioritising frame rate option with reprojection mode on was diabolical.

Without the reprojection mode on it’s just marginal gains, better quality textures, better draw distance, smoother, feels very natural and lifelike on the whole but yeah losing the fidelity improvements/lack of ghosting that the new mode brings.

Once the new reprojection mode has been cracked I think it’ll be mega and nearly gets the most out of the game/headset; my advice to anyone on the fence is wait until the next patch solves this and maybe a drop in the cost of the console too. I feel like a guinea pig at the moment and can see the light at the end of the tunnel but it does feel like a lot of money for little.

I’m also on an old OLED 60hz TV in my racing cockpit so I’m considering upgrading to a 120hz OLED so I can play non-GT7/non PSVR2 games on it and get the best out of them..

EDIT: Also, I can’t remember what mode I was in but the rear view mirrors/side mirror fidelity was INCREDIBLE. So there’s that.

Dude.. for real though. I wasn’t even gonna say anything because I KNOW it has to be PLACEBO, but this morning while playing in VR on my amateur PS5 I could have sworn it looked a little bit better 😂🤷‍♂️

It's true, even non-vr. They again changed some pop-in parameters, much less than the Pro version, but a good example is that last turn at Dragon Trail, which the shubbery used to pop-in a lot as you got closer, now it's got just a little bit of pop-in.

I am worried only about the shaking vibration being hard for them to fix. It could be related to their suspension physics, it still does it on a stationary car. I wonder if engine vibration is causing a bug in the physics with suspension in a similar way to when the cars jumped around awhile back. This could be why it only effects some cars and in different amounts according to modifications/settings.

I was noticing when that vibration occurred during my driving.

At Tokyo in my K24 Civic TC, there was no vibration at that smooth Expressway. However as a side, the timing HUD would double when I looked up and passed overhead signage. It would go back to single numbers and double again when I passed another overhead sign.

A race at Nurburgring in one of my Group A spec E30s. I got more vibration on some road surfaces, probably due to bumpiness of the surfaces itself. Curbs gave me more exaggerated shakes of my car.

Races at Brands Hatch in my BTCC spec Civic TC(all suspension components set to maximum stiffness, lowered and on 18 wheels) had less vibration and jumping than the tracks above, even over the curbs.

Another thing are the tearing of shadows on cars around me. I can only describe it like the female Terminator movie where she gets magnetised and starts to liquify. In early morning or sunset conditions, it’s less of a problem. Bright conditions it’s just bad.

However, playing for hours, the visuals are clear. The sweet spot is crazy clear, but even looking around and into the distance, it’s clear. Not flat screen clear, but higher resolution than PS5. Seriously.
I’ll also add looking in the mirrors is the same as looking anywhere else, it’s amazingly high resolution.

Interesting, my test was on the Nurburgring.
I dont think you have seen the super high res and frame rate of the mirrors with the Pro in VR before the update? It was better I think.
