best way i've found for upping CR is to take a tank into the LV airport and cruise up and down the strip blowing up the 7 planes not in hangers and shooting down helicopters as you go... you get pretty good at aiming the turret

i haven't really been able to come up with much, but i was wondering the same thing.. from about 330,000 to 414,000 i didn't do much besides blow up planes and helicopters... then after doing about 30-40 lvls of vigilante, it changed to four-star general.... not really sure what's going on..

I think what Spuds said might be correct. Maybe every cheat that is entered raises the numbers to reach the next rank. So since your's turned to Four-star General 39,000 after mine did and you say 3 cheats were entered then maybe it raises it by 13,000 each time?

Ok this is verified now--- I did two short trials shooting a blown up plane with the hunter--- my accuracy went up by 2.5% on one and my CR went up by 13, on the second my accuracy went up by 2.8% and my CR went up by 14.
And before anyone starts asking where the accuracy stat is, its not in the stats--- I calculated it by dividing bullets that hit by bullets fired and multiplying by 100 to get it into %.

Did you happen to use cheats before you got to 375,000-- integra had used a couple and it delayed him reaching 4 star general to about 414,000-- if you used more, maybe it pushed it up even higher so you never got it and it just skipped it and went to godfather when you got to 500,000---- Just a thought.

I found on the gtajunkies website a list of criminal rankings more exhaustive than ours, though it makes me think that there are differences between the PAL and NTSC versions.
I'm playing on a PAL game, and I turned 'playa partner' when I reached 1000 points. However, I've never been through the 'mack' stage afterwards : I was still 'playa partner' at 1290 points, then I'm already promoted 'pimp' when I look now at 1314 points.
Anyone has other clues about this ???

do you ever save with cheats? this causes a shift in the criminal rating titles for me (the higher ones).. and we believe that a large enough shift could completely eliminate one or more titles

It's nowhere near as irritating as flash ads. Pop-up flash ads you have to either click through to get to the page you want or that overlay the page you want and you have to find a little X somewhere to close it suck. I think there's a Firefox extension for flash ads, though, I think I'll go find.Spuds725
But er, but to stay on topic, my criminal rating still sucks.
I'm not even at 40,000 yet. I'm not sure if I could be bothered trying to win $1,000,000,000 at gambling or trying 400 levels of vigilante. I've been busy doing absolutely nothing in San Andreas. Just driving around wasting my time.
That and I bought Half-Life 2 the other day, so I've my video gaming has been split between a couple of game.

You must have cheated, that is why your criminal ranking didn't move up. OG goes from 200,000 to 299,999. High Roller goes from 300,000 to 374,999. Four-Star General begins at 385,000. I didn't cheat once and I became a Four-Star General at 385,000. My current ranking is 404,000 (still Four-Star General). I believe that the Godfather CR begins at 500,000. I should be a Godfather by the end of the month.
Hint: * To get your CR really high, get a hold of the tank (anyway you can), and go up and down the runway at the Las Venturas Airport and shoot the 120 mm main gun at the parked planes.
*Destroy 1 plane, automatic 2-star wanted level
By the time you destroy a dozen planes, you should have a 6-star wanted level.

The only real mystery is "4-star general"-- it seems to come in a different levels for people 375,000 to 414,000-- the cheat theory is just that-- a theory.
Using the hunter--minigun at the LV airport or verdant meadows is probably faster at blowing up planes/helis then using the Rhino....

I've found a very effective method at taking down choppers, whilst taking advantage of a glitch in the game:
After I got 100%, it seems that the minigun doesn't run out of bullets--that is--when I shoot, the bullets fired leave your magazine/belt/clip and are added on to the rest of your ammo and I never ran out.
Well, I decided that maybe I'll go on a rampage. Innevitably, I got killed. And lost it all. But, I respawned at the hospital north west of CJ's house, the one in gangland territory. I was standing around in that walled in area near the hospital entrance, and just shotcars that went by. And since that opening is the only one that police will spawn near, you can just stay there and shoot whatever walks through the door.
What's also convenient is the overhang near the entrance, it provides enough cover from helicopters and the minigun takes them down VERY quickly. I must've spent 3 hours one day with 6 stars and full health and armour!
Needless to say, it works wonders for advancing your CR.

💡 with the help of cheats you can become king of san andreas the highest rating in just 2 hours or less
just go to the dam near las venturas smiw in the low side of the water of the dam then dive (use infinte lung capicity cheat) then use the hydra spawn code like 50 times or more, all that when you still under water!!! dont let the hydra's float on the water after this all use destroy all vicheles cheat as fast as you can and you get points very fast and i mean VERY fast

The first post of this thread is pretty accurate--yours is wrong in that there is no "four-star" and "general"-- rankings-- there is one "four-star general" ranking.
The mistaken list can be dated back to Kieran Murphy (a member here) digging into the game disk files and finding that list of names---he broke that one up on accident-- that list actually became quite widespread (and wrong).
Godfather does come in at 500,000 in SA...
