This really is 16 pages of people trying convince this guy that this car is uncool. So what if he thinks it's cool. So what that this is his opinion of luxury. Everybody else doesn't. So what. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the kid feels a bit bullied for having a unique opinion. I don't blame him either, for defending his opinion either.

Now, don't get me entirely wrong. There has been some quality posts in this cool wall thread.

No, he made claims such as people voting SU and really thinking it's SZ, claimed he knows more than everyone on this site combined about 80s American cars, that he could and will (get this) write an encyclopedia about 1980s American cars.

There have surely been dozens of people piggybacking the flame train, but he asked for it, at least to some extent.

I am only sticking up for his opinion on the car. I am not sticking up for his knowledge on 80's cars, Nor his skills as an author, or him believing that we voted uncool or less as a scheme. Those are solely him sticking his foot in his mouth and his problem alone.

I don't mind a bit of back and forth banter, but I feel like the thread has overstayed its welcome.

I think the latter is the real problem with this thread. His opinion is his opinion. But dont push other people, skew facts, accuse others, and made ludicrous claims for himself to support it.

Yeah. The moment you go biased about a piece of **** and brag you know everything about it, it just screams uncool, and expect people vote that's a cool cars or in the freezer. I can understand his tastes but, to brag about something on a car like this, is a little ridiculous.

For example, I love a 90's Mitsubishi Eclipse, but I don't protect it that much, I do somewhat think it's a great car to look at, but due to ricing practice and due to a popular movie, it just didn' get the respect it deserved.

Those SZ/Cool votes might be not just the opinion of others but the biggest flaw of the cool wall - people can do joke votes, not serious, and this will affect the rating, making it not go to Hell. Which is unfortunate.

But seriously though @The87Dodge to expect everyone to like it to think it's coolness...to be honest, there is nothing cool about it, it's just a bland american car, only to end up in the junk. It may have helped on the certain things but, doesn't help much. I will be legit honest with you guys - at first, I thought he was trolling us all. Until he was serious about this thing, I was not sure wether to be in silence, or feel bad for him.

Anyway, this is my last post on this thread, This been QUITE the trip.. Adios, Dodge Aries.

It's sort of cool in an Al Bundy kinda way, it also reminds me of movies like Fargo for some reason. Lastly I think it's the right car for a broke ass pimp. My daily commute doesn't look much better, meh for me.

I initially posted my vote (SZC) a few days ago on page 14.

Seeing how "exciting" this thread is, i read it entirely and decided to reply, but didnt get the chance to post until now.

Enjoy the reading:
guys... I am coming here kinda after everything, but it seem the horse is still moving a bit.

Actually i am here to revive it....
Because i think the man may have a point, and we could all learn something...

It comes as no surprise that @The87Dodge is one of those folk who quite simply doesn't get the cool wall.

Au contraire... I fear that he may be the only one who does...

To be on the cool wall: it's actually not what people think it's cool that make it cool.

Coolness is not necesaryly what everyone says.
Sometimes, being "cool" is exactly what others dont think is cool (The Yuma Puma is NOT cool).

Having to explain why you think something is cool means it's not.

Yep.

Yes but here 87Dodge wanted to enlight a few of us... Why cant he take this opportunity to do so?
ESpecially since all of you can benefit from lookin a bit deeper into it.

This is badass.

The Aries is not.
Agrees but doesnt prevent the Aries to be cool on its own.

Please tell me more about the 82hp badass.

It's late at night here and I could do with reading something spectacularly boring to get me away.

Was their target demographic the recently deceased?
I lol

As the former owner of a 1982 Oldsmobile Omega (an almost carbon copy of the Aries):

I can assure you that 1) everything in that video is wrong and B) it was the worst pile of steaming horse I've ever driven. The absolute only good thing about it was it was my first car and wad given to me by my parents and it provided me freedom to drive.

Anyone who doesn't vote SU needs their head examined.

Ok to everything you said. Since you actually had one and drove it, your point of view is legitimate.

Having said that, if a person pulled up in one that is a more than perfect condition, the car would be an instant cool i think...

The car sucks. /thread
The car sucks if it looks like a beater, but if there was one in mint conditions, it would be so cool, dont you think?

So I read through five pages of this thread, got bored with the back-and-forth, but then pushed on up to this point so I can now write my post. I'm not entirely sure I can possibly expound more upon any of the points that I wanted to make, because a wide variety of contributors to this thread have already made them for me so I'll just make a few tidbits.

I don't know anyone with a Dodge Aries, but the grandmother of a friend of mine owns a 1986 Chrysler LeBaron. I don't necessarily think a lot of K-cars, but they are far from cool, really. I don't find them offensive, but that doesn't translate into "it's definitely cool". I drove it once, and don't recall it being remarkable in the slightest. Most I can really remember is that it didn't have much power. That's about it.

I can agree that this car was just what Chrysler needed to bail them out in the 80s, but as many people have stated in this thread, that doesn't make it cool. It's knowledge that esoteric to people who aren't into cars and/or wasn't even alive in the 80s.

@The87Dodge I feel for you. Really I do. I remember back when I was known as Irons, and I nominated my dad's truck, and defended it as a cool vehicle, and under the old ranking system, it did wind up making the "cool" category, and right now it's sitting in uncool. I was probably 15 when that was being polled, and I remember being fairly passionate about this old '80s Toyota. I was a little dejected that it ended up uncool, but I understand that for many people, it's not cool. Not too long ago, I nominated my daily driver, the Scion xA, and it did kinda sting how it got ripped apart, but at the same time, I can definitely understand why it wasn't considered a cool car. Hell, had I never owned one in the first place, I would have given it a "meh" at best. In the end, I was expecting it to get lambasted anyway, and I feel that you probably should have seen this coming, at least a little bit.

If it's one of the coolest cars of all time to you, then own that. You don't need our approval for you to think it's cool, so own it. Just understand that none of us really think alike or have the exact same tastes.
Your understanding in the mist of rejection from others is refreshing.

@The87Dodge I refuse to believe that you are serious. There is no one that is this delusional.
I dont see how liking the car can be wrong... It's not like we are talking about the Puma.

Unpretentious transport. Meh.

Most votes should be like yours i think.
The Aries is a bit like an American Corolla...
Boxes, circles.
I actually love boxy cars.... That may explains it...

I'm not trying to defend the guy or the car, but hasn't this whole... thing just become an exercise in beating a dead horse?

The horse doesnt want to die..

VXR
Thirteen pages of one person vehemently defending an unremarkable car. Yeah, that would impress women no end.

Seriously uncool.
The guy is liking this car without intention to impress the women, and i think that makes it cool...

Problem is that the horse itself kept undead.

Long live the horse... ;)

The cool wall was initially to impress Kristen Scott Thomas. I don't think she'd be impressed with blind brand loyalty over anything else. That is way too arch to be cool.

Having said that, if a person pulled up in one that is a more than perfect condition, the car would be an instant cool i think...
That is an "if" of Godzilla-like proportions.

And after having driven an HHR for a while at work, now when I see one being driven, I think "of all the vehicles on the planet you could have possibly chosen to buy, you selected... that." I'd think the same thing for an Aries. Perfect condition or not.

No.

Sure, the car saved the company from bankruptcy, but that doesn't save the car from being bad, whether it's in "mint condition" or a beater.

Long live the horse... ;)
How about we keep the horse in it's grave? The discussion of this car has gone long enough.

That being said, I'm pretty much done with this thread.

In the end it's just banter bro's.

Seriously, the car isn't exactly a "cool" thing to be proud of... The design is terrible even if it's meant to be a "box" car, it looks like if could fall apart any second, and it isn't even that popular to be considered "cool", honestly I respect other people's tastes but sometimes they can show too much love for something that isn't exactly "good". I am surprised that they would name it Aries just to make it have a decent name but that was years ago so it doesn't really matter.

Anyways, the thread was just pure banter against the car's existence and well the car deserves to be in a grave so no one can know of its existence, I highly doubt it would have any relevance in the future so it's better to let it go.

At this point, I don't care if this car exists or not. If someone gave me an Aries today, I'd be okay with it. At least it isn't a Yugo, it isn't a Trabant, it isn't a Lada, and it isn't the infamous ZAZ 968 with a door that won't shut.

At least it came with a tiny hole for ice fishing.

It's just an 80's car you drive ironically, but not seriously. That's the exact purpose of this car and it will never be a performance car.

Unless if you think it is, and if so, you have the imagination of a 3-year old.

Dear god. Kill this one with fire, not your granddad's Aries in mint condition.

However, with pockets filled with endless amounts of cash, you could just buy that Aries and make it ludicrously better than it ever was buy making it a sleeper by throwing in a better engine.

However, you can kill all of the other Aries that look like this one because good god they are truly ugly. Just don't mistaken it for the 1978 Dodge Magnum.

And apparently, someone already did grenade this poor Magnum, thanks a lot Cadillac man!
