Silly.

Pointless.

SU.

Frankly, the standard version would likely draw a Meh from me. This is BS.

I dunno. I mean, can an Altima ever be cool

This one maybe...then again it wasn't badged as one and it never went to the US :P

Come to think of it though...is the name Bluebird any better? Let alone when that name also has a host of capitalised acronym-ish letters at the end of it?

:(
I voted cool.
Back when these were new, I didn't have the money for a warranty covered New performance car of any kind. I did have the money for the basic version of cars like the Altima. Seeing this on the road from time to time reminded me that Nissan was trying to stay in the game.
It could be the best or worse drive but I like the concept. If I ever get the chance I will definitely have a go in one of these. :D

Kind of makes me wonder if anyone has nominated the Sentra SE-R...

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha-- Volvo.
That first additional pic just screams Volvo to me.
And I'll pass on having a 4 door fwd sedan, I'll take a Ford Falcon or Commodore which can be more entertaining and fun to drive, as well as more appealing to look at
It's got the same engine as a 350Z, but it belongs in... Let me say, the 350Z.
Uncool

News alert unlike this...those cars are region only things. So your "I'll take" this or that is moot.

When I read this post, I couldn't help but think of this advert:

As for the car. I quite like it but it's by no means cool.

News alert unlike this...those cars are region only things. So your "I'll take" this or that is moot.
The point was to say that there were more preferable cars I'd take before this one, those two were just the first cars to come to mind...

And that could be said about any cool wall being voted on, you comparing cars that aren't on the same level as this once again is moot as well as the one region only orientation. I don't see how you wanting a certain other car takes from this one.

you comparing cars that aren't on the same level as this
Let me direct you to exhibit A:
These following cars are close performance to the car in question.

Falcon XR6
Engine type:
4.0L DOHC DI-VCT I6
Max. power: 195kW (260BHP) @ 6000rpm
Max. Torque: 391Nm (288lb-ft) @ 3250rpm
Body Style: 4-door sedan (as well as other types)
Drivetrain: Front Engine, Rear Wheel Drive
Weight: 1723kg

Weighs more but has more torque and is RWD
Holden Commodore SV6
Engine Type:
MULTI POINT F/INJ 3.6L V6
Max. Power: 210kW (281bhp) @ 6400rpm
Max. Torque: 350Nm (258lb-ft) @ 2900rpm
Body Style: 4-Door Sedan (as well as a sportswagon)
Drivetrain: Front Engine, Rear Wheel Drive
Weight: 1684kg

Again, weighs a bit more with similar torque, but has more BHP and is also RWD

you wanting a certain other car

I don't recall saying want... Let's revise what I said:
The point was to say that there were more preferable cars I'd take before this one, those two were just the first cars to come to mind...

That's what I thought I said. I said I would PREFER other cars over the Nissan, not I WANT one of THOSE cars specifically.
And so what if it's region restricted? Am I telling you what your opinion should be? No, I'm telling you what mine is, since it's what this discussion is about. Where I am from, these cars are available so I can use them to compare if I want because I can be in a situation where I can choose either the Nissan or a car like the Falcon or Commodore.

EDIT: Apologies to everybody else on this thread for this post, and sorry if it went a bit off-topic.

I know about those cars quite well, and the point still stands you're comparing what are not even the top of the line version to what was Nissan's peak performer in this category, also the specs are similar but as said earlier this version wasn't even as fast as lower variants of the same car.

My point is I don't see how bringing up two well known aussie cars highlights anything about this car when others have easily done it with more comparable machines. Also don't mince words or grasp straws to me when you say prefer you're indirectly saying you want or would like if the option was given.

*sigh* I don't even know why I am bothering... THAT WAS MY POINT
My point was. I would not choose to buy the Nissan. I would choose to buy a different car, because there are many others that are entertaining to drive as well as more visually appealing for the same price and performance. Those 2 cars are examples of ones I would purchase with similar specifications but (IMO) better performance and better looks.
I don't care that it's the top performer in Nissan's category. The fact that it's worse than lesser variants is all the more reason I'd buy a different car. Okay? Okay. My point still stands.

Not sure what the sigh is for, it's just a debate. Also I don't see why their examples such as say the Mazdaspeed6 doesn't suffice, considering it is probably one of the few in that category. Either way you have your wants if given the option between this and something else.

Also wanted to mention these are cool wall threads, where this type of debate/discussion happens all the time and so do car comparisons against the one being voted on. Or debate didn't take anything off topic and if it did I wouldn't have started it.

XR6 didn't have more performance then the standard 6 Cylinder models though.

Although they where never sold in the same country as the Altima, they would of been roughly similar price if so.

I missed the voting since I don't frequent this section much but..............Cool.

Probably the only time we will ever see a factory performance Altima. (although the stock V6's are damn quick anyway) These things are rare and I usually do a double take when I see one. I would take one with a 6MT in a heart beat.

I never said it did...but the V8 at the top of the Falcon line did which was my point

Well yes, but how does that matter?

It would be a direct comparison regardless if it's the top model or not.

How is comparing a performance variant to a non-performance variant direct? People in the market for an SE-R wouldn't be in the same market for a XR6. Surely if people wanted a normal version of the Altima they'd settle for a less costing lower model, just like those who settle or want an XR6 compared to say an FPV GT or what not.

XR6 is a performance variant, it comes with optional manual and an LSD with bigger wheels and different suspention, the basic model doesnt have this.
