Overpowered race cars that actually go around corners and somewhat resemble their stock counterparts. Possibly the coolest modern racecars IMO

Superb race series, but Canberra taxis have no place on the cool wall.

Sub. Zero. No question.

There is something really cool about turning fairly average, boring, sometimes 'working class' sedans into snarling, roaring race cars. Ever since I saw a Ford Mondeo in BTCC and going to my granddad 'look granddad there's your car racing!!' (I was like 6 years old at the time!) I've loved touring car racing, and V8s just tick every box. They know they aren't about technological innovation, and if someone said 'oh it's really inefficient to be loud as that's wasting energy', they'd laugh at you and neck a beer.

If it were still just Ford and Holden...uncool. But at least the other 3 have shaken it up. They've done pretty **** mind you...but they've brought moderate interest, so it's a meh for now.

Race cars are uncool on the road, but these are Meh, because with minimal modification they could be street legal

For some reason, yes. I like street cars more so anyways. They actually interest me. Racing doesn't. But lets not get too off topic here.
Yet you've posted in the past about how often you visited a drag strip, i.e. a race track in all it's technical definition where they race your beloved muscle cars. Racing isn't defined by actual race cars.

But at least the other 3 have shaken it up. They've done pretty **** mind you...

Nissan struggled last year because they screwed up their aero kit, I believe someone described them as a flying fridge. I don't really know what's going on with them this year, they were quick at Adelaide and Albert park to start off but they have done bugger all since then. Erebus (Mercedes) have struggled because they are sorely a customer program and receive no factory support from AMG, coupled with the fact they currently have no major sponsor and a owner that's lost a lot of money, it's no surprise to see rumours of them possibly switching to Volvo next year. Volvo have exceeded all expectations this year though. No doubt that they will be competing for a championship with in the next year or two.
Voting Sub Zero because it's the best racing on the planet right now, hands down. And the cars, although on a common chassis, still look about as close to their street counterparts without actually using their chassis. Which is good enough for me.

👍

I really don't care about touring car racing, so "meh". They are more stock than NASCARs, however.

Seriously uncool. Not street legal, goofy liveries etc. Ugly sedans. No thanks.

How are they ugly...I've never seen you claimed the E63 ugly or the Chevy SS and I recall that you wished the Australian Ford Falcon was sold in the U.S.... You are making no sense right now other than the street legal portion. Also the liveries are no different to that of NASCAR or anything else out there

Please elaborate because this is arguably the best racing series in the world right now on the premier level.

The Ford, Holden, Erebus, and Nissan are all seriously uncool, but the Volvo is sub zero. Averages out to seriously uncool.

How are those four uncool, also your bias is showing because you always talk up Volvo and other euro brands like it.

Anyways uncool, I decided not to do SU because these cars unlike all the others are actual production cars earlier in life that are converted over, so true Touring/Stock car racing. In the end they are still racing cars and retain other variables that make racing cars SU but that one portion not being so saves it for me.

I don't mind the street Falcon but it's not pretty. None of the rest of them are either IMO.

I hate NASCAR and just about everything to do with it unless its from the old days. I don't really like my cars covered in 10 million stickers or 5 different colors with numbers all over them either.

So then you hate all racing because they're the same when it comes to livery also the Falcon is prettier than any other Ford Sedan sold in the U.S. with power and speed comparable to your beloved Mustang.

Volvo hasn't done crappy, at all and has been in contention for a win at every round. Nissan won last year and Merc won this year and all of them usually finish in the top ten so not sure how that's bad.

No I don't hate racing because of livery, thats stupid. I hate it because its simply boring to watch unless you are:

A. There watching it
B. Actually racing.

Fixed.

Anyway, Fords are uncool because they are Fords, and there is nothing cool about a Ford (unless it's got a certain Steve McQueen connection). The Holden is uncool because it's a product of General Motors that isn't a C1 Corvette, and any General Motors product that isn't a C1 Corvette is seriously uncool, especially a European one. The Erebus is seriously uncool because:

a) It's a modern Mercedes, and
b) It's a fake modern Mercedes.

I really hope that I don't have to explain that to you.

The Nissan is seriously uncool because it's an ugly Nissan saloon. Nothing more than that.

The Volvo is sub zero because all Volvos (except the XC90) are sub zero. Due to the nature of coolness, I can't explain that to you. (Except the XC90, which I shouldn't have to explain.)

Just about, except maybe a football game.

Well that doesn't make sense, you're not at the actual game and you aren't participating so how could you enjoy it? I'm
confused.

Worry about the depth not playing English teacher, my finals are over, I didn't come here to get grammatical corrections thanks.

This makes no sense and only goes back to what I argued with you earlier this year or late last year about how you tend to call things uncool because of their status or they aren't efficient to you. Hence why your one of the few people that finds a Prius cool while the rest of us see something else. Also you've done little to explain, all you've done is say hey world I'm stuck in several decades past.

Also Holden isn't a European mark, since you wanted to correct me I'll be petty and do the same. Australia though having roots to Europe isn't a European nation thus the car isn't European but Australian...

How is it a fake modern Mercedes?

I really hope that I don't have to explain that to you.

I'm going to make you by replying, unless you just decide to ignore me obviously. At least when people ask me and others why we vote Race cars uncool or SU we can give a reason.

The Nissan is seriously uncool because it's an ugly Nissan saloon. Nothing more than that.

Really it doesn't look ugly to mean when you compare the rest of the market, but I guess I have ugly taste to you. I know what an ugly Japanese car is though since we just voted on one in the last cool wall thread.

The Volvo is sub zero because all Volvos (except the XC90) are sub zero. Due to the nature of coolness, I can't explain that to you. (Except the XC90, which I shouldn't have to explain.)

In other words "I'm biased and don't feel I need to explain thus a cop out should suffice." At least that's how I read it, the ford thing somewhat makes sense but the other explanations just show that you like a certain car and thus project it on to your notion of cool, you can hate or like a certain car and still find it cool or uncool.

It's about the only thing I enjoy sporting event wise watching on TV because I played it competitively for many years so watching it is a tad entertaining. Everything else no.

But I wasn't aware that I had to dislike everything...some things appeal to me while others don't.

Last time I checked, I voted seriously uncool when the Prius came up. I don't have to find a car cool to like it, let alone have one. I never implied Holden is anything other than Australian. I was replying to your implication that I have a "euro bias" by pointing out that GMs least cool cars are European.

And that says a lot.

The Erebus is a fake Mercedes on the grounds of being a car which is pretending to be a Mercedes. Simple as that.

Let me translate the words "je ne sais quoi" into English for you. "I don't know what". For something to be cool, in my books, it has to have a certain "je ne sais quoi"; and in the case of any car which it is possible to explain what is cool about, that car is not actually cool. I guess you could say that me calling any car cool would be a cop out, then...

Anyway, cool is subjective, just like any aesthetic. Arguing is fun and all but I have more important things to do. Like sleep.

IMO Opinon anyone that Bags this Awesome piece of machinery need a big wake up call

I've never missed a race since 2007

best touring car racing in the world, I've been lucky enough to go for a few hotlaps in one and OMG Best thing in the world

to was 1300 or 1400kg the brake are amazing as with the acceleration

Especially when it's more then one car...

Just to re-iterate here, as this was brought up in the Nominations thread as well: the Car of the Future is a singular control chassis with the only differences being the bodyshells and the engines which can either be a stock control block (which I believe is Ford) or the manufacturer's own (eg. Nissan who uses a V8 based upon the VK56DE fettled by NISMO).

So while they look like multiple cars, the Car of the Future is in fact a single car and I nominated this in a similar vein as the NASCAR that was nominated a while ago as it was based upon a few of the same principles.

If this in fact wasn't the case I probably would have nominated the Triple Eight/Vodafone Holden.

As for my vote, the Car of the Future is a solid Cool, not least for the V8 Supercars in general being very fun to watch. Even though it is a control chassis the addition of manufacturers creates a little diversity, kind of like the ATCC before Holden and Ford chucked the sads except now everyone's on a very equal playing field.
