The Golf is 88.3mpg and the Porsche is 94mpg (English gallons).
Oh. And it turns out the 67 MPGe rating was from the EPA. I think the Euro cycle rating is 78 or something. I find it funny that on the Euro cycle, a limited production high performance sports car is rated as more economical than a dedicated fuel economy special.

Not defending the EV-1 here, but I almost feel bad for it because it got completely ripped off by this(EDIT: in hindsight, no it didn't). At least the EV-1 had some power. If I'm spending $125,000 to look environmentally responsible, I'm buying this sexy beast and terrorizing the high-altitude streets of good old Mile High:

The XL1's raison d'etre is simply to use advanced aerodynamics and light weight to achieve maximum efficiency. Not exactly like the EV1... which tried to ape a regular car. The XL1 was instead used to show how good economy could get if you threw all motoring conventions and traditions out the window.

You can't rate its coolness like a regular car, because frankly, it isn't a car. It's a roadgoing sci-fi podcraft. Which is why I like it. It doesn't pretend to be something it's not. Many EVs and hybrids are compromised by being made to look and feel like gasoline cars. The XL1 just says 🤬 it and lets it all hang out.
