They're good to drive and the lack of assistance means you feel everything and your own inputs have very direct results. That's not necessarily what you want driving for 3 hours down a motorway.

Did I mention the road noise and general loudness?

Good point 👍

Did I mention the road noise and general loudness?

Road noise and typical loudness doesn't bother me. Remember, I'm used to very large and wide tires roaring down the road with straight piped V8's. ;)

But I can see how that could potentially pose a problem for someone who that may not be for.

It's not loud because of the tyres, engine and exhaust. It's loud because it's a rattly, wobbly tin with no sound deadening or refinement. At 70mph you may as well put headphones on for all the good a stereo will do. At "70mph" you may as well have the roof down because CHWRCHWRCHWRCHWRCHWRCHWRCHWRCHWRCHWRCHWRCHWRCHWRCHWR

So how can you possibly say that they're just as good on track as they are on road. One biased opinion is hardly a convincing argument.

Because the builds wouldn't be as popular as they are, and the fact that you can vary the level of performance by the amount of $$ you have. No build being the same is what makes them special. But I can't imagine a 1970 Mustang/Camaro/Challenger or whatever with a completely aftermarket and/or built/strengthened chassis and suspension with both IFS and IRS (sometimes a solid axle), 48/52 or 50/50 weight distribution, 450-550hp, 5 or 6 speed manuals (sometimes good automatics), lower ride height, coilovers and wide low profile tires handling all that badly on both the track and the road. I'm pretty sure that right there would smoke a stock one and handle significantly better on the street and at a track and do good at both. But you know, nothing can be good at both or anything.

Or you could just ask @CAMAROBOY69 who has had 2 of them.

Quickest way to make a car terrible on the road.
They aren't always used, it was just an example of some I've seen. But they are significantly better than the stock (and pretty crappy) leaf sprung suspensions they used over solid axles.

I installed coil overs into my 69 Camaro and it was by far one of the best upgrades I have purchased. I talked more about it in my 69 Camaro thread but the ride is just incredible now. Keep in mind these are not just some cheap coil overs. QA1 18 way adjustable. So these can be adjusted as stiff as possible for the track, or very soft and very comfortable for the street. I can also adjust the ride height for on and off the track. Coil overs in a new car would probably be a different story, but coil overs in older cars are a MASSIVE improve on and off the track.

As for cars that can be daily drivers and track performers. There are thousands and thousands of cars that do this. Most of them are known as pro-touring or lateral G builds. Most any car can be built to perform as a race car and a daily driver. Especially older cars.

On a side note, someone installed lowering springs into my WRX. Currently it would be great on the track, but a bit of a rough ride on the street. I would love to have coil overs in my WRX instead of these lowering springs. A lot depends on the weight rating on the spring too. I am guessing the front rear rating of the WRX springs someone installed is somewhere around 215/195. With a little lower weight rating, the WRX would ride a lot better.

I was tagged which is the only reason I came in here. Feels like this is way off topic compared to the title. Hopefully my reply helped the discussion.

Never would I expect to see a discussion on the merits of coil-overs for a street car in a thread about a Russian truck.

That's the beauty of the Cool Wall, one page we could be discussing the car in question, and on the next, SUNBIRD!

BECAUSE SUNBIRD!!!1!

Humor helps me to relieve stress from when I see stuff like that.

If I never did, I would probably actually go insane and who knows what I would do...

You might actually do the sensible thing and put White&Nerdy on your Ignore list. Suddenly, all the stress just... disappears.

Or you could just keep beating the same old dead horse in an attempt to make yourself feel superior to a complete stranger on the Internet whilst using "humour" as an excuse.

(Spotted the hypocrisy in this post? Then I direct you here - specifically to the mouse over text. So there.)

Y'know, for the last coupe of months, when I say "Kamaz", I think of this... :sly:
