Looks as much of a coach-built conversion as the classic convertible it's likely trying to evoke memories of. Minus the Bond connotations.

Seriously Uncool.

I hate the Evoque in general, and I hate this even worse. No, it's not a throwback to the old soft top Land Rovers. It's an even more expensive and even more useless handbag for footballers' girlfriends and rich guys' second trophy wives.

Let's see:
  • It lacks bad-ass factor of regular Range Rovers
  • It heavily interferes with the image of traditional Land Rovers
  • Obviously slow
Uncool. It won't get the worst grade because it doesn't look that bad visually.

So... expensive cars are cool because rich people buy them?
Nope - you missed the second part: people who want to be like rich people don't buy expensive cars (because they can't), whereas you can get the Evoque convertible for £399 a month.

The Evoque in general is a cool car. I mean, Victoria Beckham designed it!* They launched the convertible in Santa Monica with Naomie Harris. How much more cool do you want?

*No, obviously she didn't, but that's what everyone thinks.

Well, I personally think it was excecuted better than the Nissan Murano convertible. It actually looks kinda mean, though I don't know why anyone would drive a convertible in the snow with the roof down.

Anyway, it's not as uncool as the Murano, but it still gets an uncool vote from me.

*Squints* Not sure if you are mocking "cool" or if I've turned into Grampa Simpson

I can't really see the Murano convertible comparison. The Nissan wasn't exactly cool even as a regular crossover, and the execution of the Murano convertible was disturbingly close to simply being a massive Micra CC, which is dreadfully uncool as well in case you weren't already aware.

The Evoque on the other hand was borderline cool, especially in the 'coupe' (otherwise known as big 3-door hatchback) form. This one is closer to being a massive MINI convertible. Not cool in any way shape or form, but not really the absolutely least cool thing there is.

I'm amazed that a vehicle that small can weigh that much. Not as much, though, as I am amused that the Wikipedia page for the Evoque contains such purple prose and deification of non-accomplishments that I would be unsurprised if the IP address for the page maintainer could be traced to the company headquarters.

Someone fairly high up in JLR who knew a convertible Evoque will sell so quickly they won't be able to get them made fast enough.
they have money fot this crap, but no for XK or XJ220 successor. I really hate this even more now

That's because JLR, like all businesses, exist to turn a profit. A convertible Evoque will make lots of money. A new Jag supercar won't. If JLR started making cars that enthusiasts like (note like, not buy) and stopped making Chelsea tractors, it wouldn't take long before there was no JLR at all. Like it or not, cars like the Evoque are what allowed the Defender to stutter along for as long as it did.

I think the F-Type in a sense replaced the XK.

Like Roo said, unlike an XJ220 successor, the Evoque Vert would make more profit than the successor would.

That's obvious, I know. I would buy if I could afford. DEfender survived thanks to luxurious SUVs, not this convertible because JLR wants to make money like others, and change image. And luxury turds like these will help them.

F Type is 2 seater sports GT, while XK and XJ-S were 4 seater GTs. It did replace XK, but a 6/CL competition is missing.

I know a guy who's a Land Rover salesman just outside Leeds. He said that within two weeks of the Evoque Convertible going on sale, they'd taken almost 50 pre-orders.

Land Rover is going to make a ridiculous amount of money on a car which almost certainly didn't cost too much to engineer. Whether you like cars of this ilk or not, it vastly increases the chance of JLR having the funds in place to produce the fancy halo models in the future.

or just invest in Range Rover convertible and F-Pace coupe because, unlike credible successors, they bring even more money.

So Jaguar is actually back where they started with the XK's. The first four were 2 seater sports cars.
