I don't think the car's a bad car, either, (I did vote cool, but am starting to regret it,) but it's just not iconic. It did what it did well, but in the straightline-speed wars of the early to mid '90s, it got absolutely lost. Jaguar, Lamborghini, Bugatti, McLaren, all stole the limelight...as well, we were used to the idea of a Ferrari hypercar at the time, with the F40. we saw this, and merely thought it a continuation. There's not enough differentiation, not enough time to miss the fallen...absence does make the heart grow fonder, and that's why I feel the Enzo rose to a higher level of fame than the F50.

((Apologies for the rambling))

Truth be told, the car's not the first or second Ferrari to come to mind when I think of the top-of-the line Scuderia mobiles. I think that's enough to keep it from achieving Sub-zero.

Jesus. I never knew the F50 made that kind of sound!

What sound were you expecting?

Undeniably Godly even though he never really opens her up fully, also check out the 1000hp Bi-Turbo F50:bowdown:

-> Pure (teh) shex, thats all...ever since NFS II. Aside from the BimmerMac (F1), I've always adored the F50. Just keep it the regular version, I don't need the F50 GT (that is too much for me).

Umm... guys... the F50 GT is a whole different nomination. So can we save this discussion for later?

Same car, engine, chassis just a weight reduced aerodynamically enhanced homologation.

It's a Ferrari and its ugly... Aaaaaand 50 Cent has one I think.. But I just simply can't make it Seriously Uncool because it does make a nice noise.

Anyone who says this isn't good loking is maybe because he hasnt seen one with his very eyes. I have, and thats why i say its Sub-Zero. I was at the Galleria Ferrari in Maranello and it's utterly impossible stand up in front of a red F50 without the roof and saying "Ugly". When you are in a room with the F40, the F50, and the F60 (Enzo) you dont say "Ok, this is the ugliest". You have a dum look on your face and take a hundred of pictures to each and every car, it doesnt matter if it was the F40, the F50, or the Enzo.

If I take pictures of it, it's because I will post them in the forum, and show them to my friends. And if I stare at it, it is because it is mezmerizingly ugly. Not exactly what I would call good reasons to vote it Cool, let alone Sub-Zero.

It's got nothing to do whether the guy making the opinion has seen it in the metal before or not. The F50 is a love-it-or-hate-it car, as I said earlier.

I think it looks great.

I've been taking pictures of F50's in person for quite awhile. South Florida is like my second home and it's filled with ferrari's.

I've also seen an F40 in person as well and I can tell you the F50 was a step backwards in terms of bodywork styling. The front half of the car really kills it for me, it's too silly looking.

The F40's got a good music to it as well, turn your speakers up and watch those Pirellis go up in smoke.

The problem with the F50's looks:

How many boys have posters of F40s on their walls? (sees hands)

Now... how many have posters of the Countach? (sees lots of hands)

Now... how many have posters of the F50?... didn't think so.

Fantastic looks are those you don't have to apologize for, don't depend on the angle of the shot, the position of the sun, or how badly the photographer botches the shoot... a fantastic looking car looks fantastic, period.

And the F50... doesn't. If it wasn't a low, wide, sleek mid-engined car, it wouldn't have anything going for it at all, beauty-wise.

I don't have any car posters on my wall, I haven't been a boy for over a decade and a half, and Ferrari more than likey doesn't care what a boy thinks. Enthusiast that buy prestige cars take more into consideration than looks. Its more about having a 4.7l V12 F1 engine, its a street legal F1 car, and also its engine is shared by the Ferrari Le Mans Prototype 333 racecar. All that is probably the reason the car was practically sold out before its release much like the Enzo, but was a much more progressive step than the F40 and F60. With all that equated judging a book by its cover is, well.., quite boyish isn't it.

The whole reason for anyone buying a "supercar" is "boyish" enthusiasm.

If it were all about speed... then explain the Consulier GTP?

People buy supercars for two things only... looks... and the badge.

They don't buy them for the performance... it's a given that they'll have the performance, but if performance is all that mattered, supercar owners would all be driving Ariel Atoms. No, they buy them to drive around and look cool in.

And sometimes, just sometimes, a badge can cover up a bad looking design.

Else, how would you explain the Cayenne?

Hype.

Ferrari never used a 4.7 litre V12 in Formula One, to my knowledge. The engine was based on the 3.5 litre V12 from their 1992 F1 car - and the subsequent 4.0 litre V12 used for endurance racing (something F1 cars are not so great at) - but never saw use in Formula One.
