It barely matters what's after the first word if it's "Vauxhall". It absolutely doesn't matter what's after the second word if it's "Astra".

As cool as a chest of drawers.

Beat me to it.

The big "V" on the front says it all...

;)

This car would like a word with you all:

That looks like Marvin's car cousin.:yuck:

As for the topic at hand, Uncool, it's a Vauxhall, which just sounds uncool.

It looks like a regular Astra modified by a chav with a rear wing and wheels. And it's a Vauxhall.

Uncool.

It has a big wing (actually it's not a big wing, it's a small wing, which is pathetic looking) and chrome accents inside the grille. Uncool.

Doesn't mean it doesn't look daft...and that wing isn't even trimmed for much downforce. it's trimmed flat.

I thought the normal generation of this Astra was the dullest car ever. But this looks cool and it's a limited edition model made by the Vauxhall BTCC team of the time. It packs some punch. I voted cool.

Edit:
It looks much better from the back.

Just FYI, that's not the spoiler that the 888 comes with (as far as I can work out). Here's the press photo:

Looks just a little bit silly.

Incidentally, here's what happens when said spoilers end up sold on ebay.

(That photo's hotlinked from Bebo, just to give a hint as to the calibre of that car's owner...)

That's STILL a flat-trimmed rear wing. I can't see it producing much downforce at all. Thus, STILL FACTORY RICE.

It's tied between Cool, Meh and Uncool.

For God sake people, it's an bloody Astra with a stupid, ricey and cheesy wing on the back... not even a Ferrari V8 would make that thing Cool. /selfish rant

Course it is. In fact I'd say it looks even less like it's been designed to do anything than the one in the other picture. At least that one appeared to fit the car properly...

Well, it's a Vauxhall...

Either way, I actually do like the look of that generation of Astras to a certain degree... If it is an Opel, that is :P
The Astra G OPC was kinda cool looking:

However... It's still front wheel driven and, in my opinion, a wannabe 3-Series Compact. With front wheel drive.

Meh.

At first I thought I was looking at a CLK DTM this. With the bodykit, it doesn't seem to be much of a fast car but I do think it handles well. I think I'd give it a 'Meh'...

are you seriously that thick? DTM? This thing isn't even close!

Actually makes more sense than you'd expect...

Ever driven a FWD car in anger at high speed? Yeah I thought not.

Yeah I have, the front end gets real floaty. I've actually dragged fwd cars. But I recant my large spoiler statement if jondot is right about the spoiler. The one he has pictured looks small.....kinda silly...
Owell, my tc has it's functionless spoiler on the back soooo I can't really judge :) Still seriously uncool though....

Well, the TC's "spoiler" Is relatively unobtrusive and only serves to add an accent to the styling of the coupe. This is made to look serious, yet isn't.

If it had a proper, functional rear spoiler and it was debadged then it would be just about cool. However, with that chavvy spoiler it just looks like another chavved up Vauxhall, plus it has the words "Vauxhall" and "Astra" on the bootlid, so Uncool.

All this critiscm of the Astra yet the Honda Integra made it to 'cool' on the wall.. I'm hard-pushed to see the difference.

The Integra (Type R) is hailed as one of, if not the, best front wheel drive cars ever. The Astra 888 isn't. And it's an Astra with a stupid wing.

^ Or the Civic. Maybe with the Type R models from the EK and EP generations. The SiR-II from the EG? Maybe. Still, Civic and Integra, probably the 2 best FWD cars.

And then we have a silly Vauxhall with a stupid bodykit, non-functional spoiler, and tries to be tough with a 4-banger and a turbo.

Very true, I wouldn't have bought my tc without it, just ruins the look.

Hmm, remember, this is not the 'good car wall', it's the cool wall... Integra has stupid wing, it's also quite ugly, and I REALLY fail to see how an Astra is uncool, but a Civic/Integra would be cool, no matter how many letters and numbers you put after it...

.. both to me have a similar appeal, I can easily imagine them on one or two wheels having clipped the apex curbing at turn 1 of Knockhill, revving the jubblies off the engine, with the back wheels simply keeping its ass-end off the ground. I don't much like either, and I'd never buy one.. but they have a certain character.

As far as the whole ASTRA thing goes...

I did just under 5000 miles in two weeks in an Astra hire car (newer than the 888 generation), pretty much against the clock, in all types of conditions, on all types of road, hauling supplies and shelter to cover the two weeks.. got the back-end out a few times and even got clear air under all four wheels once or twice, it never missed a beat or p***** me off even when we lost or hung over (50% of the time). I have a respect for them that I don't have for many other cars, and a fondness that is only built from completing epic road trip in one, I even have a 1:43 scale model of an Astra hatchback alongside my relatively expensive collection of 1:18 BMW racecars! If Chavtastic Fords and rainbow powered hair-dresser Fiats can get to the cool end of the wall, I don't get why a BTCC inspired Astra can't?
