Race for fun

Championship Standings

Next race

Race Times
The races will be held on Sundays at 7pm GMT. They will be held in my private lounge. The lounge will open at 6pm GMT. At 6.50pm, I will qualifiying race. At 7pm I will start the race. Based on your position in the qualifiying race, you will line up in grid order, complete the pace lap at at speed of no more than 100 kph / 62 mph. Once you are on the main pit straight, you may go green.

OLR - You must read this

Series Idea
-This started of as an Eco-friendly race series but after the pre-season I discovered that fuel wasn't an issue and it was all about the tyre wear so why not continue the series as that? Welcome to the GTP Tire Challenge!

Series Regulations
-You can choose whatever car you like.
-No pitstops under any circumstances during any race unless retireing. If you enter the pits, you are automatically disqualified.

Lounge settings
-Grip reduction will be set to real.
-Penalties will be set to off.
-Regulations will all be unlimited
-Damage will be set to light
-Tyre wear and fuel depletion will be on

Joker Wild Cards
-During the eight race season, you will be granted 3 joker wild cards. Each card is worth one pit stop available to you. If you use plan to use the joker wild card then you must say before the start of the race. If not, then you may not pit during the course of the race. You may use all three in a single race if you wish or you may use one at the three races that matter most to you. Your descion.
-One joker wild card = one pit stop without disqualification.

Tracklist
-London
-Top Gear Test Track
-Nurburgring Nordschleife
-Cape Ring South
-Madrid
-Rome
-Deep Forest Raceway
-Tskuba

Points
To stop people absolutely owning on points if we have a low attendance race (e.g. 25 points for a win and only 4 people turn up) I have decided that the number of points that you earn is going to be:
number of people you beat in the race x3 = your points for that race

interesting car choice a 908. This is going to be very mixed racing but I doubt I will be any where but last with a prius at the first corner. Any hows, I'll run the test race if we have at least 8 people. Any more is just a bonus

Will the actual races occur on Sunday as well? I wouldnt want to run the pre race and then not be able to make the actual events. Also are there tire limitations? Do we have to use racing tires?

I have not worked out my car of choice yet

Actual races will be saturday or sunday. As for tires, its up to you. High grip tires may provide more speed through the corners so that you are faster in the race but more speed allows for more revs and more revs means more fuel is used up. Lower grip tires then make it easier to conserve fuel. In a way.

My idea for car choice is low revs and low weight. Then get as used to the track as possible. But it will be possible to win on high revs and high consumption provided your VERY fast at the start. Its gona be interesting.

I'm quite interested in this, could be a great test of skill plus efficiency of the cars. As I'm a newbie to these forums I would understand if you were a little apprehensive about letting me in! (I've only dabbled in online play) but choosing a car is going to be hard.

I saw the title and immediately thought of the Prius though! Might have to give my trusty civic a reprise with this.

There could be major spelling gaffes following:
I remember watching something on the Discovery channel about hypermiling techniques. I dont remember the technical term they gave it but I consider it the "Coast and Go" where the driver Accelerates to a speed 10-15% faster than the target speed, then allows the car to coast to down to 10-15% below before increasing back to 10-15% above; this is the most fuel efficient way to maintain a target speed. They explained it cery well with a diagram and real world tests in several cars, from an old CRX to a moving truck, agreeing the Coast and Go makes the best use of kinetic energy while suffering the least from the affects of gravity and drag. I'm not certain how to explain in properly, but this method created the lowest avg drag coefficient.

I may just participate in the pre-race due to available time, though I am quite interested. I need to do quite a bit of research on car, but I'm certain it will be something light, FF and boxy.

I'm interested in this, could be pretty good. I'll give you an update closer to the time on the car but I'll fill in the rest now.

So basically is this just a test to see what cars can last the longest on fuel consumption..?

pretty much, but it provides great racing as the fast cars with high consumption might be fast enough to win after running out of fuel

I changed my car entry. I reckon I'm on to a winner with this car.

I gave the Prius a go last night, I was unimpressed but it does look good for economy. I'll edit it with my car once I try out some economy runs in the Civic.

i'd be interested as well. Thinking of something like a 240sx, but I'll have to do some test runs. Will suspension and other tuning be totally open?

I did 8 laps. I was slower when the battery ran out but the petrol engine doesn't go down at all. The only series where the Hybrids are the fastest race pace cars. Does KERS work in this game? I know IRL the Prius uses it to charge the battery. If so, the Prius could be perfect. But my racing Insight is an insight into the future of Hybrid racing monsters. I mean the Insight isn't a monster but maybe in the future....

everything is open but your not allowed to pit so tires are a factor as well. Please copy and paste the interest list and add your name on to the bottom with your car choice.

I'm not too sure if it works (relatively new to the game) however I know that 30 laps of Autumn ring in a Prius would be pretty dull! I'm currently thinking going for a fairly low powered FF hatchback and seeing how many laps I can manage with a stock/slightly tuned setup (I'll do that with careless wasteful driving too). I'm hoping it would last for about 20/25 laps stock then some careful tuning/driving could be the answer to getting those extra 5/10 out of it.

edit: Thinking about it I'm tempted to try out the BMW 120d, do you know whether the efficiency of the diesels is accurate in this game? Tuning wise I'm thinking not doing any engine/power improvements and just going for the weight, transmission, suspension and drivetrain to try and ease the load. Might give a 10 lap Autumn ring a try soon to work out if it'll make it. Quick sum makes 30 laps of Autumn ring 54.9 miles which isn't too bad.

I have found the Honda DualNote to have a battery that recharges very fast, as well as being drained very fast.

Right, sorry

I would also be interested in running this as it should make for an interesting race. Not sure what car to use those something light with a reasonable amount of power like an Elise maybe. Although I seem to remember that the MX5 seemed didn't seem to use much fuel when running it in the 4hr roadster endurance race and the tire ware on sport hard tires during that race didn't seem too bad either so could be another good choice.
