Sorry I wasn't there for the NA Race guys.

My alarm woke me at 3:30, I hit snooze but think I shut it off completely. :dunce:
I really wanted to be there as I knew I got a chance on a podium, which has been quite a while.

Edit:
To come back on the connection issues we had in the EU Quali.
I think my internet had a bobble as the livestream got cut off too when I disconnected.

Great pics, as usual, Al. 👍 And it was quite a rush following you and Lin, for what seemed like an eternity. Very consistent laps all 3 of us ran on that first stint.

Stupid lap 1 stuff aside, I had great fun in this race, and it's about time there was another 3D3 1-2-3.

I'm missing next week too, which I'm also not happy about. :grumpy:

We need to recruit heavily for NA next week to make sure we get a quorum of 6 at least. Hopefully Kevin is back and participates. And speedy decides not to hit snooze. And Pekka is inspired by Speedy's feed of the EU race again. And JTV PMs me saying he's a couple mins late. And ...

Barring any more 70 foot trees falling down and nearly wiping out and entire stand of little league fans again I'll be there for sure. :dopey:

My one pit stop plan was bad idea. In fact it went wrong on the first lap before ring when i spin. I stick my plan to 15th lap when i realized that it did not going to work. My race was over...but still have lot of fun.

Any good planner must realize when to abandon a strategy and seek another and better path.

Or so sayeth a wise 3D3 racer I once knew and dare not name. :dopey: or maybe I just read that in a fortune cookie.

That's true:)
I'm wiser now after race - i should have been chanced the plan earlier...ok it just the game 💡

Here are the N/A pictures. I am getting better at capturing images. I tried storing the photos on the Album section on GTplanet but they alter the photos so I am sticking to my Photobucket account. Enjoy!

Al, you are not kidding... these shots are the best yet... in fact I'm replacing the feature image with that one of the three jumping cars... awesome. And we all use photobucket as well... best way to go.

That first pic shows how close I was to losing it in the first turn... The tires were so cold and the car pushed and pushed even though I tried to brake early... I really thought I was going to lose it right there. Lucas feigned to dive inside me after that, but did risk it and then the two of us got a little separation.

PS> We'll need a guest 3D3 photographer the next week (or two?) as Al is going to be missing our races... applications being accepted. :sly:

PPS> All pics have been aggregated on the highlights post on the first page.

Grazy EU race night on the Cape, after the race I was exhausted due to over concentration.....no mistake,no mistake, becarefull, brake, brake, steer in,saved, etc, etc

Qualification went above well and I started in the upper half of the pack.

A big compliment for all twelve racers, first bend without major accidents ,actually I believe superclean.

Good racing with you Sjaak.

I didn't plan to be behind you in the first stint, but after my bobble "post jump" I saw you coming fast and figured I'd let you by... Twissy was right on your tail and there was no point holding him up so I went wide to let him though. Al got in there too right on Twissy's bumper (legally) for good measure and the next think I knew I'm in 6th place.

I quickly caught Sjaak... but in 10 laps had no opportunity for a safe pass and Sjaak kept it on the track so left no opening. I tried everything from backing off to make a run, to diving into the last corner hoping to sniff the draft. Nothing worked... at the end of the straight I was right there with no room to make a safe pass... Finally I watched Sjaak after race lap 10 on the final corner and it looked like he approached the corner as if doing another lap (rather than going wide into pits) so I decided to change my strategy on the fly and short pit.... slowed and went wide to dive in and then he dove on pit lane in front of me... chagrined I made another quick change of plans and I dove back on the track and did another lap. Pushed the worn tires as hard as I could and pitted next lap and sure enough Sjaak was a bumper ahead of me on exit... but this time Sjaak bobbled just a bit in turn 2/3 and I wasn't waiting and went through.

Yes Tim,perfect write up about our first stint.
Racing on the straight I saw your name behind the pitwall, moving and because I paid attention to that I missed my brakepoint, hit the grass sligthly and had to fight for car control again.
I surrended and knew you overtook me in the inside.
Never to see you again due to your fast pace.

A few laps before the pit ,just after T2 I released the throttle after a small mistake of mine ,to let you pass, but you also released the gas and stopping was no option so of we go again. You are way to polite on the track.:)

After Tim was gone,Jon was catching me very fast,he was clearly on a mission.

With in a few laps he closed a 10 seconds gap but got stuck behind my rear bumper.
Just like with Tim,I only kept my race lines to prevent a overtake.
Jon tapped my car a few times,so close he was :scared: but when the tires got worse a small gap become clear.
And when Jon chrashed ( hope not cause mine sliding and early brakingactions ) the gap was growing.

The last stint I was on my own with the last laps a fast Wes chasing me but I could prevent he was lapping me.
This had nothing to do with my skills rather then luck :dopey:

Congrats Wes,James and Mohit with the podiums,Tim for a great result and all for participating.

Your welcome! I will be working the next 2 Wednesdays. Guest Photographer needed!

Al

Your pictures really are amazing, Al. But... you don't need to take part to be photographer... what I mean is, if you were sent the replays of next week's races you could still do it. Just an idea... but maybe you want the time off, though!

Thanks! That is plan "B". We are just looking for more help! The more the merrier!

Yes, we've awarded Al the contract and he's free to sub-contract the work out as desired.

The pics are great!!

I had some time on my hands today and need the practice, so I produced a video on the EU event. The NA event is just too late for me since I'm an early riser. Forgive the comments, but as a former radio DJ, it's in my nature.

Also, it'e very difficult at times to discern car colors as to who, so if you are ID'd as someone who you are not on the vid, chill, it's a game, lol.

Enjoy.......or not. :)

Nice Dan! Love the 'caution flag is out' parts

Congrats to Wes and Tim for the wins
And a secondary congrats to Twissy for keeping Wes honest - honestly fast (as per usual). Great run, glad I saw it in the video 👍

I already said it in the other thread, but i second what marc said... good job and thanks Dan. I miss the old 3d3 days when I produced highlights each week. It was a ton if fun but so much time consumed doing it. They are fun to go back and watch later too.

As far as the driving... Being on track with super fast, but also super clean and respectful drivers like twissy and Wes is great.

But the guys right down the line up should be commended for a super clean race. The rolling start was tricky and the top couple drivers got fooled by one if the fake starting lines and then backed off creating an accordion... A super aggro guy in the back could have dive bombed and took advantage, but not a single guy did. I haven't been in too many series where I could say that. Thanks guys... This is why I look forward to these races every week.

Very nice job Dan 👍. Good job on the commentary too, definitely adds some flavour to the video.

Very nice video Dan:tup:
You found my two spin but miss my first spin at the 1st lap :)
Nice to see that i wasn't only one spinning ;)

Great pics, Al.

Thanks for all the vid comments. I just loaded it over on a DVD for the PS3, and the race looks even better on the 50" Panasonic. Vids on YouTube on the PS3 just don't behave right. Sony needs to upgrade that.

Thanks! How do you transfer the videos from PS3 to Youtube?

Al

Unfortunatly you can't Al.
What Dan means is he wrote his video he made on a DVD so he's able to watch it on the PS3 (using it as a DVD player).
There's no way of uploading replays onto youtube through the PS3. :grumpy:

WHAT????? I thought one of the big new features in GT5 was a direct video upload to places like youtube! You would think a feature like that wouldn't be too hard to implement. :grumpy: Man that is disappointing.

The important bit that might have been unintentionally left out is that Speedy and Dan have a device (HD capture card/dongle) that allows them to connect their PS3's to their computers, to record and edit these awesome videos! I'd love to get one of those, but then I'd have no driving time left. :dunce:

You are absolutely right, Lucas, and I believe Tim alluded to the time factor earlier.

Even when I was doing the TT podiums, that was time consuming as well, so much so that I had to quit doing that because of personal time constraints.

Selectively doing projects like Event 37, although very time consuming it was, entails no deadline for the ending process, and thus can finish at my leisure. :)

Yeah, I'm aware of the 3rd party solutions. I just wanted Sony/PD to allow us to link our PSN ID to our YouTube ID, hit transfer, and go to bed. :sly:

I would be happy if Sony just didn't protect the output via HDMI so the 3rd party capture devices could connect with HDMI instead of composite. And also we have to downgrade to 720p instead of 1080p (and I know it supports 1080i, but I prefer 720p).

I know why they protect the output but it would be nice if it was a software driven flag so they could prevent you from copying a blue ray dvd with that method, but allow you to capture the full quality output of a game.

I'm going to try to make time for a good highlights video of the World Tour. Dan's video has inspired me to try it again... I'll probably kick myself when it's done just like Hydro did after investing gobs of time into that amazing animated GIF. Or I may chicken out and not do it at all. :dunce:
