Future Race Notes - I just want to make everyone aware that we'll need to have two moderately expensive cars in our garages for a yet-unannounced race that is still many weeks away. Both cars will be needed as it will be a 'combined times challenge'. The two cars are:

  • Mazda RX-8 Concept LM Race Car [501 HP/1100 kg] (1,000,000 credits)
  • 2000 Ford Falcon XR8 [599 HP/1350 kg] (1,250,000 credits)

It sounds good and the car selection is awesome... 👍
:gtpflag:

I'm giving the BMW 120i some runs around the RING just to be familiar with the handling. Can't wait to see what track will it be.
:)

a track that most of us rarely, if ever, have used before
...

I might have an idea but I have to say I'm quite a BEGINNER ;) at guessing the COURSE but I must admit I'm looking FORWARD to know it too... Might be a REVERSE one though !

I just want to make a quick comment. Yes, I know ovals are boring. But I'm trying to help easyasashii fill out his leaderboards and I thought I could attempt to spice it up a bit by giving us ten cars to choose. That way, we'll at least have some automotive variety until we find the car that best fits our personal driving style. For future events, I won't totally exclude a track that has already been run in a TAC, but I'm going to try and mainly choose un-used courses/tracks.

so has anybody started running this challenge and if so what cars are you deciding to use? because i believe with this great variety of cars its going to be one heck of a competition.

I have tried all cars listed and My best time so far is with the Peugeot 206 RC '03
1'50.xxx
no tunings yet. I'm not giving up yet on the other cars with lower HP, because they are close to my best time yet.

I've raced the Seat Ibiza Cupra '04 for a couple of laps vs, hit the 0:48.xxx but nothing flash yet.

great! time sir lion-face! Ill probably get my line focused and tight , I usually end up driving wide on the 2 corners.

I got a 0'48.xxx with the Ibiza, the 206 and the Cooper.
I got a 0'49.xxx with the Focus and the 120d.
And i got a 0'50.xxx with the 120i and the Golf.

I don't have the rest of the cars. My fastest laptime was with the 206 RC.

Ran some laps in the focus but they are in the 49.xx range as not yet found a set-up with car to reduce the under-steer enough for my liking. Might try some laps in the Cooper later on to see how it handles.

I did three test laps with each car - no tuning (except to zero out the toe setting):

Hyundai (49.0xx)
Mini Cooper (49.4xx)
BMW 120i/120d (both in the 49.8xx range)
Ford Focus (48.9xx)
Seat Ibiza (48.9xx)
Honda CR-X (49.2xx)
Volkswagen (49.8xx)
Toyota (49.5xx)
Peugeot (48.9xx)
Mazda (49.7xx)

Some of these times are not up to the real potential of the car (my poor driving was to blame). For instance, I think the Mini Cooper and Honda CR-X SiR both can produce noticeably better times than I did last night.

I tried the CR-X and also scored a 0'48.xxx with it.
Unfortunately it has the most understeer out of all of them. :indiff:

And i beat the best lap time of the 206 with the Mini Cooper. By a whooping 6 milliseconds.

I don't have much time but I'll see what I can do ... No promises though !

Good luck !

EDIT : We are not allowed to cross the white line on the left with more than 2 wheels, right ? Or crossing it is allowed ?

so far my best car is the CR-X. (i edited this text to take out the time that i had put before because i ran with the wrong tires)

so far my best car is the CR-X. my best time with it is 0'45.660

!!!

Are you using N3 tires on front and rear? Or did you accidentally type '5' instead of '8'?

Or maybe I just suck with the Honda and never realized it's potential!

I tested each car for about five more laps each. I didn't really get a significant improvement with the BMWs, the Volkwagen, the Toyota, or the Mazda. I did, however, see gains with the other cars:

Seat Ibiza Cupra#lll (48.5xx)
Peugeot 206 RC##l (48.6xx)
Hyundai#######ll (48.7xx)
Ford Focus ST170# (48.9xx)
Mini Cooper S#### (48.9xx)
Honda CR-X SiR##ll (49.0xx)

Given these finding (no tuning still), I think I may keep the Seat, Peugeot, and the Hyundai in my 'favorites' and see how well them perform with a bit of tuning.

A weird thing I noticed, the Hyundai's allow the front to be lowered to 25, but the rear goes all the way down to 30. Too bad that isn't the other way around!

I think he used the S3 tyres (default tyres).
---
I lowered the TCS from 1 to 0 and i improved ~0.2 over my best lap time with the Ibiza.

hey guys i am sorry. you are right i did mess up on the tires and accidentally put s3's instead of n3's... so never mind that time and i will run it again with the correct tires this time.

I took my three cars and applied some basic tuning to them. The Hyundai showed marked improvement and the Seat & Peugeot got just marginally better times.

Peugeot 206 RC##l (48.516)
Seat Ibiza Cupra#lll (48.523)
Hyundai#######ll (48.553)

Ran some more laps in the Peugeot last night but it but best could manage was 48.6xx time. It is probably the quickest car in straight line but I don't like feel of it under braking. It just feels too soft and struggles for traction when braking and applying throttle in last corners.

Tried some laps in tuned Seat then and times were high 48.5xx although car is a few mph slower than Peugeot on straight just feels more stable and able to get better drive out of last turn with it.

Might try the Honda, Toyota or Hyundai to see how they feel.

I tried to improve my time with the Hyundai, but was unable to do so...

I was able to see good gains with both the Peugeot and the Seat though!

Peugeot 206 RC##l (48.374)
Seat Ibiza Cupra#lll (48.344)

All I really did differently from last night's tuning setup was to give the cars some negative rear toe (-15). I also had given the Seat some positive front toe (+5) to help with the turn-in grip.

48.768 with the SEAT
it seems I can't beat my record with any other car.
The Peugeot overtakes the Seat while cornering but in the straights, the seat regains the lead. AW!!

48.481 in the Hyundai. If I can do that in the Tuscani, which isn't the fastest car, I think I could hit 48.2's in the Peugeot or SEAT. We'll see...

hmm... i feel Week 13 is gonna be tight. Everybody's fighting for milliseconds! Still nobody has submitted any official time and replay.
There's always this chance of hitting the right combination.
Anyone breaking the 47.xxx barrier will be the man of the hour!
GOOD LUCK to everyone!
