Congrats guys...and thanks for taking Apollo and Munch out of D4 - now get rid of Shig and I'll maybe have a shot! ;)

No promotion for me either?

Sorry but just wondering why?

I would assume it's because a promotion for you would mean moving up to Div 1 Gold and, simply put, a couple of weeks of WRS:ing, albeit very quick racing, is not enough to get you there. There is not a single Alien in Div1G who hasn't put in a massive effort for a prolonged time to get there, either in WRS or in official online racing. Just keep it up and you will get your promotion, sooner probably than later. 👍

Thanks Maz,

Although I do appreciate all the positive comments. I'll get there soon enough, every week I do my best to stay on top. I try not to disappoint my fellow division members. But Maz's words are very true, just have faith in me mates. When it's my time, I will move up the divisions

What he said.

What a suprise.Did not expect this to happen so soon.
Congratulations everyone, and thanks Mods and Admins.

:tup:A promotion of 2 levels is very satisfying for me.
The word 'Gold' is just great in my signature even it's just Div. 4 :dunce:
Every hour I spent was fun to drive the WRS.

If you've noticed it, he's noticed it. You just have to show some faith and respect towards someone who is not new to this and is actually the one responsible for the entire handicap system in the first place.

WRS for GT5 has just started. Keep in mind that some drivers in the past have had to win their division in WRS or even overall on multiple consecutive weeks before they received the promotion they were after.

All the best
Maz

Absolutely, division placement should be about consistency over a sustained period of time. Whilst it will take some time to sort out the inconsistencies from the qualifier, I'm slightly surprised (this isn't a complaint btw) at how early the first lot of promotions have taken place.

Be patient guys, the WRS is a lot more than about what division you're in. If you're quick enough to be promoted then you'll get there eventually, but don't expect to get promoted, because I think you will start to lose the enjoyment factor of the competition.

Congrats to those promoted. 👍

I agree that Shig should be with us.

As Shig has moved up 2 levels within D4, it is a proper promotion.
You can still race each other as before, division placement doesn't matter.
The divisions make races within races, like the ALMS and it's 5 classes (this year).
I remember an LMP2 Penske Porsche winning overall a few years back and last year an LMPC car getting 3rd overall.

It's still racing and what division/class you are only matters on leaderboards.

Congrats to those who were promoted and thanks to the OLR Admin for your time.

No promotion for me either?

Sorry but just wondering why?

I'm hoping that the series of questions and responses that have built up in this thread, a thread that used to be purely for congratulations, celebrations and good will and pleasant surprises, will once again return it to that kind of atmosphere. We have a lot of new WRS members and I guess this ground should be covered for all to understand. Nigel, you may even consider putting a little something in your excellent FAQ about this topic also.

Josh, promotion to Division 1 gold will never take place after 2 overall victories. As Thomas has said there isn't a single person who has not had to work their ass off to get there. If you qualify there, that's the easy way to be honest and it's probably why so many people in gold dedicated so many long hours to the qualifier this time around. They knew the history of work required to be promoted into the D1 gold subdivision.

Some examples for you from Gran Turismo 5 Prologue:

- GTP_Hyperspeed (now Hyper-Dan) had to win absolutely every race in the Official GTP_Race Event 03 in order to be promoted, beating esteemed drivers such as GTP_Mad94D, GTP_MeAgainstYou, GTP_Stotty, GTP_Racer-LP, GTP_JackStanley on more than one occasion. Going up against the best of D1 gold at the time and not being defeated once in such a long tournament, becoming the undefeated champion of that event, was his gate to D1 gold. That was in addition to his WRS results I might add.

- GTP_mad94D collected 10 overall WRS wins on his way to D1 gold

- GTP_CRAZYTORTISE collected FIVE overall wins and still never got his promotion to gold

- GTP_CarlPKY had only 2 overall wins but for a string of weeks was within a tenth or so of GTP_eclipsi, one of the best GT players on the planet, scoring a ton of podiums and beating him some weeks and a great deal clear of the rest of the field, not to mention finishing #1 in the US GT Academy time trial in 2010.

- GTP_Animera collected 9 overall WRS wins in GT5P and did not get a promotion to D1 gold

- I collected 6 overall wins, 14 D1 podiums during the period I was promoted to D1 gold.

All in all, for 2 years of WRS in GT5P, only 4 drivers were promoted into D1 gold, the rest qualified there.

Now the fact is, a few more performances like you've already pulled out will see you promoted into gold anyway, so patience and perseverence are required as you can clearly see by the stats and figures I've mentioned above. It's not supposed to be easy nor expected nor demanded 👍

All the best
Maz

Good idea on putting information regarding promotions in the FAQ. I'll get on it.

I concur with what Maz has written here completely and the comments of hard work done by members to reach their goal.

In GT5p I went from D4G to D2G setting my sights on D1B I had to pass every bronze/ silver / gold to reach D2G before the release of GT5, but alas fell short at the winning post, I must admit I’ve not been taking GT5 wrs by the horns as I did with the last wrs.

Maybe this is down to the “atmosphere” as mentioned or the loss of three or four members not taking part at this time (don’t know) but I am trying to do something about it, as you may have read from posts I have started with the help of other members an online racing theme for inter divisional races. From the banter I’ve read in past GT5 wrs threads it looked like a great idea to get the members racing online as well as WRS.

The WRS community at GTP has to be the envy of many on the inter web forums, the fantastic work done not only by admin but Joost/Steven / alba; sureboss, andy2125 to name a few is outstanding.

As members its down to us all to support them, as well as others taking the time out of their busy live who organise events, if you’ve tried putting on a successful event you’ll know what I mean, it’s dammed hard work.

So come on guys chin up lets have fun.

And don’t forget to sign up for GTP_IDOR too and have a

Phillip.

According to the leaderboards, I'm not in a devision. :odd:
Registry still says D4 Gold though.

Maz,

Your last post should be on the OP so hopefully new members will read and understand that you can't just earn a quick promotion without hard work.

Cheers for pushing me up to silver gents :) :D

I intend to keep on racing hard and see if I can move up another one in the future! Congrats to all the other promotions!

Thanks Maz for that.

Like I implied in my post, I didn't want to be pushy or demanding, I was just wondering why. This is my first WRS (joined after talking to the guys at the Australian GT Academy final) so I didnt quite know how everything worked RE: promotions.

All of those reasons are completely fair and I totally agree, I want to be promoted to D1 Gold after earning it, not asking for it.

I will just have to keep my head down and keep performing.

Thanks for clearing it up Maz, I appreciate it.

@Shigegaki - I will leave that comment alone for now.

Congrats to all the guys promoted. 👍
Well done chaps it's a nice feeling, (as I remember from GT5P) keep putting in consitent fast times and you'll be rewarded even more.

Maz well said as usual 👍

To all who thought they were a chance for promotion but missed out don't worry about it, keep doing the times and your time will come.

Sorry to point you out Josh but you are the perfect example, your times are amazing  and as Maz pointed out just keep doing it and you will be in Div 1 gold as your times suggest.

Lastly but certainly not the least thanks again to all who are involved in running the WRS (you know who you are). It's you guys who make this a great place to be. 👍

Cheers Shaun.

There's a formula to it, but it's not that fancy:

Each event has a weight associated with it. This is published with the results (week 1 had a weight of 0.5, since minor aspects of the event changed mid-week). Most weeks have a weight of 1.0. The qualifier has a weight of 4.0. The ratings and respective weights are all combined to give a single updated rating (you can actually figure out what your rating is by carefully analyzing your handicapped results). I'll probably cap the database rating at some number (10 or 12) to prevent a long history from weighing you down too much, but I haven't settled on that yet.

Note that adjusted handicap isn't always the only factor we use when doing a promotion, but it's the controlling number in almost all cases. (Translation: if your rating says you are up for promotion, you will *probably* get it, but not necessarily.) Other things we factor in are participation, recent performances, etc. D1G is scrutinized more carefully, and so is the hardest promotion to earn by far.

VERY NICE VAXEN!!!! Seeing this type of statistical math in the background is a thing of beauty!

Congrats to all those promoted!

Looks like I need to get back on the track (and update my sig for that matter). :sly:

When is the next qualifier that new members can compete in to be added to a division?

I think the qualifier is currently open, so you can submit your times to the staff as described in the qualifier thread. It may take days (or a few weeks even) until your submission is processed and you're placed in a division. Just be patient. :)

Cheers for pushing me up to silver gents :) :D

I intend to keep on racing hard and see if I can move up another one in the future! Congrats to all the other promotions!

Don't worry millross, you won't be stuck in Division 3 much longer. I think you will get a promotion in both of the next two rounds of promotions. You are fast:cheers:

Back in town, all the previous mean I am promoted to Div 4 Silver?
If so, it's very nice and I did notice it was the biggest promotion, 3 categories up! thx
Also congratz to everyone participating and also everyone got promoted!
