I think most people would fall into that group wouldn't they, largely as a result of learning from the faster drivers around here, and theres nothing like competition to improve the breed. Almost everyone that I'm racing against each week, including myself, started in D3.

Those that stick around for sure. I think there are two cases of those that get promoted. First the guys who just didn't run up to par on the qualifier for various reasons and second the guys who qualify where they should but improve a lot being around the WRS community.

I was in the latter group for sure. I started in D3 and that was were I was supposed to be as I didn't even know how to find the fastest line on the track forget actually execute it. Sometimes I'm still lost in that area. Sure if I'd have put in 3 weeks into the qualifier I could have qualified in D2, but then I wouldn't have ever seen a podium and maybe would have been discouraged. As it was my timing was perfect and the mighty and humorous Gravitron was just promoted to D3 himself and gave me a quick wake up call as to what's required to win your division. No easy victories with this group. 👍

And speaking of Gravitron, let us not forget that he's worked his way up from D4-Silver! 👍 Actually, I don't see another person who's done that [yet] although several have worked there way up from 3.9+ to D2.

We only had 3 divisions in the GT4 days, but I'm originally a D3 guy myself.

I found that out just last week, when I was referred to the week 7 WRS because I was trying to gold that event in GTLife (and was looking for some replays). Looking at the leaderboard for that week, I went "WHAT?? Lucas used to be D4, and that was just a few months ago!?"

I would like to know your secret, Lucas... I realize that my potential might take me only to D3 silver or maybe gold, tops, but I would like to have the impression that I'm moving forward, at least. I guess it's better than being D1 gold, those poor guys know they can never improve... :P

I started in D3 bronze - started off fairly clueless - got DQ'd in my first ever week which made all the WRS admins realise how awesome I was , learnt fast, got promoted 4 times - if you stick around you'll learn how to go faster that's for sure :)

... several have worked there way up from 3.9+ to D2.

Yeah I've gone from 3.9 to 2.3 and then regressed slightly (stupid steering wheel ;))

Welcome to all the new guys - another D1 gold is good, we need some more competition for Wes at the very least :)

@guy-who-ran-for-15-mins-and-got-D2-silver - remind me to skip the first few weeks you enter to avoid a thrashing!

Thanks for the compliments, Tim. 👍 Sticking with it, putting in the time, and learning from the great folk here is the only secret. I put over 8hrs into the qualifier, but was still getting used to the wheel back then.

I think it's more amazing how Kevin consistently comes up with fun and instructive combo's week-in/week-out. I think the genius of them may be lost on some participants, but many would agree with me that he has uncanny sensei ability to choose accessible combo's that really do teach something new every week.

Agreed - makes a mockery of the division system

Completely agree with this statement - since I joined in wk8, there has never been a straightforward week where I can just jump in a drive. There's always something about the combo that's harder than it first appears.

I'm just waiting for Lucas to be D2G so I've got a good excuse when I get my 🤬 handed to me :sly:

I started near the top of D3G, got promoted to D2S after 6 weeks and stalled. Think I've hit my talent wall

Your good attitude will get you a long way Daniel. Also keep racing with us on Wednesday night in addition to the weekly time trials -- that's the secret recipe. :sly: I learn something every time I follow a faster guy on track (which is often).

And if Kevin does a corner/track write up print it out and study it. This post is one that will go in the history books for me. My third week in the WRS and Kevin didn't know me from Adam, but was willing to put in a lot of time to analyze my lap, suggest improvements and do a nice write up. That kind of assistance is why you can improve with this group. Of course by doing the analysis of my replay (which wasn't required that week) Kevin also got me my first and only black flag as he noticed I had submitted the wrong (and slower) time. :dunce:

Wellcome all new guys and congrats all promotees. 👍

Yep and you were D2 when I gualified to that division in GT4 WRS week 171 IIRC.

In GT5P WRS I qualified to D4 bronze and slowly worked my way up to D3 and eventually D2 bronze  (with sixaxis)

Then after GT5's release and about a month of practice with DFGT ,
I ran the GT5 WRS qualifier in the last 3 hours before deadline and submitted with 11 minutes to spare.

I got placed in D2 and all I could think was , " oh 🤬 , I cannot belong in here.. "

Now I'm re-learning how to drive with wheel (to match my current division pace) , DFGT broke in November 2011 , since then I have used sixaxis again and now from the beginning of 2012 I've used / am learning to use G27.

Yep, I made D2 in week 157, having debuted in WRS in week 112. The thing that put me over the hurdle was replacing my old DFP and crappy little table I used as a stand with a G25 and a proper rig to mount it on (Playseat at the time).

It seems I've plateaued since then, but I don't get nearly as much dedicated racing seat time as I did back then.

Congratulations to the two promotees, your hard work is paying off.👍

Welcome to the new drivers. Awesome job to the new D1 gold driver.

5 more in D2, oh man, its getting crowded here. Can I go back to D3 again?:sly:

Edit: To add to the discussion, I think I qualified right at or maybe even a little above my ability at the time(D3Gold). It took a lot of hours between GT Academy(143rd in midwest regional) and WRS to improve my ability. In fact, I was driving automatic until week 7 or 8 and it wasn't for another month or so until I went to only manual. I still feel like I have very little knowledge of driving line and techniques. At the same time I feel like I improve a little every time on the track.

I was one of those that didn't fair well in the qualifier, I have always had problems at this track, just never really figured the track out.

I qualified in D2 Silver but was called out after my first WRS event (week 6) as I managed an overall podium in my first week, I was asked if I had put any effort into the qualifier which I did. I think I spent a total of 4-5 hours on qualifier in the end. It's probably about an hour or so less than I would spend on the weekly combos which I think was enough for me.

I am now in D1 Silver though which I see as being my limit, I don't see myself reaching alien territory :sly: Took only 2 promotions to get here and am happy I am now probably where I should of been in the first place :)

For me I seem to avoid Nordschleife at all costs, one day I should really try to learn it.

Maybe Timo could tutor me :D

Thanks a lot for that link, Tim. Kevin's write up for turns 1 and 2 at GVE reverse helped me quite a bit last week, actually.

I Have made my Qualifier and posted my times! im so excited and anxiously waiting to join the WRS.
Did not put an effort on Qualifier i only did it once and took my split times and subscribed its ok for me if i am ranked low because i really would like to learn where i fit in terms of speed and performance plus i dont want to be dropped immediatly among the quick guys and wonder what to do in order to advance, i'm going to learn my way through . Im sooooo Excited

I think that Nurburgring knowledge does most of the job in qualifier. I spent only 1 hour, planning the same for WRS events. But I feel a little overstimated in D2 gold, now. Can only manage D2 times after 5-6 hours of effort....

Sphinx just want to tell you that you are required to submit your best effort. You'll ruin competition in your division submitting a slow time, compared to your skills.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I put in about 2-3 on each sector for the qualifier, though I still remembered Nurburgring quite well from doing the whole AMG series a while back. I put in about 2-3 hours on Week 47, and I think I have the slowest D2 splits. I will probably need to put in at least twice as much time as I did the qualifier to compete with the others in D2.

Same here too, my qualifier times were after 15-20 tries on each sector. However there is no chance managing D1 times

I spent about 2 hours for each split of the qualifier, in the end it felt like the only way i would be able to improve is with a lucky run wich never happened..

Im looking to participate at my first event this week! :dopey:

if i find enought spare time...:nervous:

You might have had a wee bit more time than the average bear at that track, Mike ... :D

Welcome to all! 👍

Hey Jerry, you do realize this is a WEEKLY series, not an ANNUAL one!!
It would be interesting to know what exact date you ran that qualifier! Seriously, though, hope to see you on the track soon!!

Welcome
