Thanks I understand the basics now, I just don't get where the 2.29751 figure comes from. It's his handicap, but how is it calculated. 2.29751 from what?

GTP_gooners_17 (mohitraina91) D2 Silver -> D2 Gold (2.29751 -0.36916)

Here's a link to a post with links to posts with info you seek. ;)

I linked to the same post 2 posts before .

You should stop by the online race forum sometimes, haven't raced you in a while 👍.

I guess only a moderator or someone with advanced knowledge in statistics could explain it properly, I kind of know what it is, but find it very hard to put it down in words.

Just go with the flow :sly:, you'll probably get it a bit better when you see your handicap evolve after a few events.

Didn't scroll that far up, lol.

10PM EST on Wednesday just too late for me, sorry.

If I had to guess, the 'handicap' would be a measure of an unobserved true potential, that gets updated via something like a Bayes rule after each event.

I looked at the links. Unless I missed something, they seem to be dealing with how the handicap is adjusted, not how it is calculated in the first place. Their examples begin with "Let's say your handicap is 2.47125 for example..."
Anyway, don't sweat it, I'm just curious, I'm sure I'll run across it sooner or later.💡

Yippy! Movin' on up. Thanks Vaxen and congrats to the other promoted drivers.

And a warm welcome to the new drivers. We're a competitive but friendly bunch :)

It's calculated initially based on the Qualifier. Depending on how you do in weekly events that you participate in, it either gets lower (which leads to promotions), or higher (we only do demotions on request, and at the Admin's review of that request).

If you look at one of the Unofficial Results threads, you'll see the handicap calculations for that week's results. Negative means you did better than
your current handicap value, and positive means the opposite.

Like Mohit said, maybe you just need to try it. :sly:

I did try it...I submitted my times on the weekend. Who does the calculation of the handicap, maybe I should ask him how it's done...lol??💡

You presumably sent your times to Vaxen, and he's the master behind all the math for ratings and handicaps. He's pretty busy outside of GTP, so it's not clear how detailed he'll get in explaining it all.

The important part was to spend an amount of time on the qualifier that would be close to the amount of time you'll be able to devote to each week's competition, so that you're placed accordingly. Since we just published a new group of Registry members last week, you are looking at 2 to 4 weeks until the next batch is published.

Any ideas when the new drivers are likely to be announced?

I sent my times off about 3/4 weeks ago........

The registry is temporarily closed right now because the 2.08 update has changed the physics of the game a little bit in terms of drag caused by a wing (which the SLS has). I guess the admins are trying to figure out if there are any changes to laptimes, and if so, how does it affect times.

Although if you submitted your time before the update released, you could try pm'ing Vaxen to see what's up (if it's been around a month or so).

Same here...well before the 2.08 update...going on 4 weeks now. The update shouldn't affect entries submitted before the update only those after the update.

Just have some more patience, the GTP Admins are volunteers and administer the site in their spare time, so there could be some delays. They are doing a fantastic job so far.

Maybe in the meantime you can pracitce the WRS TimeTrial and see how you stack up with the guys in the leaderboard. I'm quite sure you will be surprised how fast our guys are.

Look for the next set of submissions and promotions this week.
