I feel slower than GT6 despite having significantly better wheel (DFP to T300 with upgraded pedals).

Part of it is me being another year older and also I was slacking off towards the end of GT6 while everyone around me kept getting better - @RuddRacer is a great example.

Oh well, let the long climb up the D2 begin.

I attribute the current delta in our times to the fact that I got a head start knocking the rust off after my 1+ year away from GT. I predict you will take big chunks out of your handicap over the next 30 - 45 days.

I feel the same
for what its worth I feel the same way about you as Mike does me.

I guess its all relative

..... I think others have found the mechanics in Sport to be either much more or much less comfortable.

Spot on, I am definitely enjoying the experience much more with GT Sport than ever before. I bought my T500RS shortly after I joined the WRS and quickly realised that I just couldn't be competitive with it and stuck with my DS. The T500 was a big paper weight collecting dust until GT Sport beta where I plugged it back in to see if it was any better and immediately was clocking faster lap times that I could get with the DS.

Now I'm back in D2G which was my personal aim and I feel I am quicker than I was.

It is pretty relative, but I agree that takes about that time to find where you stand before the grind to get better.

I can't comment on whether a different or particular wheel makes you "better" @mr_lab_rat because I've always ran pad, but I guess if people rely on solid feedback from their wheel and are adept at adapting (alliteration!) then they can get the most out of the feedback received.

For me, the experience in Sport has been getting to grips with grip (all the puns today!) and the throttle differences to GT6. A lot less forgiving when you go to max throttle too quickly, and even when you tune the diff settings it still doesn't knock out the kick you get accelerating too quickly.

The TCS works nicely to help on this but it always scrubs off a bit too much speed for me, but is it me or does TCS1 give people the urge to sing "war" by Edwin Starr?

Oh man I know that feeling. Our problem was we got too dang fast on a controller making us slower on a wheel while we got good! Same as you I've run on the wheel for all of GTS since the Beta and it appears to be paying off quite a lot. I'm not sure if its just more seat time since I ran WRS on GT6, or if GTS just suits me better (I feel the opposite lol) but I appear to be stronger in GTS compared to GT6.

Bruh. You have no idea how angry the TCS makes me. TCS 1 is all but completely useless (Standing starts THATS IT), TCS 2 chugs so much speed, I have no idea what TCS 5 even does or how you could need it, but is it so much to ask for TCS 1.5?
The lack of grip is mostly the reason I'm surprised to find I'm competitive, my whole driving technique was based around the OP rear grip Gran Turismo 4 provided, but somehow over the years it stayed with me but kept me fast even as that bias went away. In GTS its even weaker again but somehow I'm still relevant and even doing better, I'd never dreamed of event scores of 0.7 or 0.6, and now I'm RANKED at 0.762. If we ever go iRacing levels of grip I'm absolutely stuffed though lol.

I'm not sure how I feel on the subject of how I stack up compared to GT6; never had a good parameter if my own performance.

AJ's endurance series in GT6 widened my eyes to how quick you need to be to get respect, and pace-wise how good I am depends on who you talk to if we're talking 1-lap pace. Part of my reason for doing WRS was to improve that aspect of my game...

You may notice I take a few weeks out after certain TTs; I tend to torture myself all week before the final piece slots into place on my pace and it completely breaks me afterwards.

Bit different here.... in gt5 and gt6, i worked myself up from division 4 to division 2. The fact is that the amount of time i put in was huge.... now i do not have that time anymore. Not being a 'natural' will result in starting down the ladder again. But i do not care about that. I am enyoing the game and that is what counts for me.

Congrats to all promoted drivers and rookie placements

@Spurgy 777 thats just a ridiculous handicap, there should be an alien division
