I had a good battle with Paul (
@hasslemoff) in the WW race.
Paul , thanks for being awake when I braked too late for turn 1 on lap 7 and 10 👍
After that I started to pull out of draft / brake earlyer when in draft.
I spent the first 15 (1+14) laps in his draft and got past at the start of 2nd sector , lap 16.
My front left went down to 2 at end of lap 16 , so I decided to pit in , hoping that i could save the tyres by being still in front in clean air when exiting pits.
I slowed down for pit entry (to avoid hitting pit wall) and Paul caught me by not doing so , that put him right on my tail.
Instead of the suggested 71 liters (IIRC) , I took 74 liters and it looks like Paul took even more. (77 liters+ ?)
I spent so much time in Paul's draft that once I got infront on lap 25 and tried to use TT braking point at t2 I ended up going off.
Looking at the replay more closely I possibly picked up some dirt on right side tyres when I passed him in last corner of sector2.
He got infront again and on lap 28 when he went off right after T3 I followed him and hit his right rear panel causing me to go back on track sideways.
Luckily I didn't collect Ian (
@Animera) on my way cross the street.
On lap 31 Paul dived inside in first corner and I was in dirty air again. Then just before T2 my front left tyre (grip) dropped down to 2 causing me veer right while braking , which lead me to catch dirt and drift/powerslide the corner , go off track and pick up more dirt for the chicanes.
Not very supprisingly the tyres were good for the same ~15 laps as in first stint.
Thanks to the worn down left side tyres I visited the beach in 1st sector on lap 32 and on last lap I overshot the first coner braking point while fighting the car veering right , went to do some lawn mowing and soon the left side tyres were on the last thread.
Didn't make any more mistakes and passed the finish line with ~8 liters of fuel left.
Paul , what happened to your brakes at start of last lap / braking point to 1st corner?
