Javier, there are only 28 drivers registered so far for the event. There will be 2 rooms each holding up to 16 drivers, so as it stands at this point you will be racing on Sunday.

Edit changed my status to confirmed ;)

Hey that's good news :) Thought there were more drivers than spots this time around, guess some people canceled since the last time I checked 👍
Thanks for the heads up Patrick

Will anyone be up for some banzai practice this afternoon (EDT)? I haven't done a single long stint for the C9, and I don't wanna die, so I'll need to get a full stint or two in.

Practice room open at the WRS Club. Might have to leave in a hurry so don't know how long I'll be there :boggled:
Room closed

Congrats @mcsqueegy on pole, and to @Ettick, @jammy21, and @GTP_Patrick1 for rounding out the front two rows. 👍

All who qualified before deadlines will start in front of anyone who qualifies from now on, in both support races and the main event.

Room splits for the main event will be published a few hours before it starts.

Deciding which class you are running - 6hrs left.

Finalizing Your Class

All drivers who have attempted to qualify for the LMP class must state their class intentions by Saturday 14th - 2:00 AM PST | 9:00 GMT Check Local. There are three options:

  1. Commit to LMP. GT qualifying not required and any existing GT qualifying times will be disregarded.
  2. Commit to GT. GT qualifying required, LMP qualifying disregarded.
  3. Reserve LMP. GT qualifying required, LMP qualifying "reserved" pending LMP result, but driver will not be able to qualify for LMP room A.
Multiple Lounges and Guaranteed Spots on the Grid:

  • Two lounges will be run for the enduro only if the number of confirmed drivers on race day is at least 20.
  • If there are 17-19 confirmed drivers, a few will have to go on "stand by" and may not be able to race in the enduro. Note that all drivers will have the opportunity to participate in the support races.
  • No more than two lounges will be run for the enduro so the limit is 32 drivers. Fastest in each class will make the A room. The next fastest will make the B room and others will go on reserve. All drivers will get an opportunity to run in the support races.

Driver Briefing, Saturday, March 14, 2015

Support Race #1 - 14 confirmed and 2 reserves, 1 room, and sign-ups are open. -- Start Time

Support Race #2 - 11 confirmed and 5 reserves, 1 room, and sign-ups are open. -- Start Time

INFO for SUPPORT RACES

These are FUN RACES and results are NOT OFFICIAL.

Please make sure you have read and understand the following notes on the support races. The pit pause differs in length from the 2.4 hour enduro. The pit pause only needs to be done once and can be done at any point during the support race.

Important notes for the Support races. (note: the two formation laps and GT getting a head start will NOT apply to the Enduro on Sunday)

Details:
  1. The races will be set to 25+1 laps for LMP, 24+2 laps for GT
  2. The formation lap speed limit is 62 mph / 100 kph and a staggered two wide formation will be used.
  3. There will be 2 formation laps for GT drivers and 1 formation lap for LMP drivers.
  4. The target start for the LMP class is when the GT leader reaches the exit of turn 12 (Warsteiner-Kurve).
  5. LMP cars are required to pit pause for 4 minutes.
  6. GT cars are required to pit pause for 3 minutes.
Important Notes:
  • The lounge will be open about 1 hour before the race begins -- watch thread for announcement.
  • Be on time (at least 5 minutes early, but preferably 15).
  • Regulation checks will begin promptly at race start time.
  • No tire warming procedures allowed during formation laps.
Regulation Checks:
All drivers should be in the lounge at least 5 minutes before the race start time. We will begin reviewing these rules at that time. Once the steward begins to speak or type out the instructions please refrain from using the text or voice chat unless you have an important question.

At the race start time we will begin regulation checks. You will be called by name to enter the lounge with the GT drivers entering first in starting order and then LMP cars after regs are updated. Do not enter the course until your name is called and do not exit to the lobby once you are entered.

Stay in the pits until the system places you on the starting grid and then we'll begin the formation lap procedures above.

Formation Laps:

The GT cars will leave the grid in order of qualifying and run a fast, but safe single file lap to lap the LMP cars. The goal of this first lap is just to get around fairly quickly and reform for formation Lap 2. At the same time the LMP class will allow the GT class to clear the grid and then leave the grid and park on the run-off outside of turn 2.

The GT class will finish lap 1, pass the parked LMP cars and start lap 2 of their formation lap. The GT class should proceed on formation lap 2 at 62 mph / 100 kph. The LMP class will wait until the GT leader is clear of the apex of turn 10, that is the second apex of the Michael Schumacher S and then begin to form up in qualifying order and begin their own formation lap at 62 mph / 100 kph. Both classes should stick to a strict 62 mph / 100 kph speed limit on their formation laps, no faster, no slower. The pole car each class is responsible for setting a steady pace while allowing the group to keep together.

The slower class will begin the race at the start/finish line after their 2nd formation lap. The target start line is the official timing line and the lead car should make sure after the final turn that all cars have formed behind and closed the gap before the group approaches the start. At that point it's up to the lead car to accelerate to start the race and all other cars can speed up when the car in front of you does so.

The faster class cars will follow the same procedure and starting point, but the goal will be to time their start at the start finish line so that the lead car from the slower class is exiting turn 12 (Warsteiner-Kurve) when the faster class accelerates to race pace. That should give the GT cars a good head start.

The final formation laps should be taken in staggered formation. The lead car will take the left side of the track. The second car should take to the right side of the track and alternate all the way back. This helps keep a tighter pack while maintaining better visibility versus single file. Cars should not "overlap" with the car in front of them. No passing before the start/finish line.

Finish:

Between the extra formation lap and pit pause difference the two classes should finish the race at approximately the same time. I'm not sure who will actually finish first, but all cars should have a fair chance to complete the race before the timer expires.

To prevent crashes between drivers going into the pit, and drivers overtaking coming out of the chicane, we have created rules for a safe pit entry. The full car should be inside the white lines all the time, from the start of the white/red surface till the end. The only exception is if you endanger another driver by moving over. In that case, move over to the pit lane entry at the earliest safe opportunity.

Please read the following and remember that it's ok to make a mistake there, as long as you give the gained time back (2 seconds off throttle) when rejoining the track. Practice entering the pit and find your brake marker as you would any other corner on the track.

Another important note is that the start of your simulated driver change starts the moment the lollipop is raised. So, that is AFTER the tire and fuel service is complete.

Mixed Class Racing Rules

Both classes must share the road and show some courtesy to the other class!

LMP Class Ground Rules:

  • Be Patient: Your job is to get around the GT class responsibly. Do not dive bomb a GT class car under braking putting them in jeopardy if you make a mistake. Understand where you car holds the advantage and utilize those areas to execute passes safely.
  • Have good situational awareness. If GT class drivers you are approaching are engaged in close battles don't expect them to stop their battle and let you go by. You may have to slow and pick your passing lines carefully. You may lose a gap you've built over a competing LMP driver, but that's the nature of multi-class racing. Everyone has a right to the road and everyone is going to get stuck behind a slower car at some point in the race.
GT Class Ground Rules:

  • Be predictable. Pick your line and and hold it. Don't suddenly change your line thinking it will allow faster cars to pass. You will just surprise them and mess up any plan they've already made to get around you. If you are taking a corner on the inside hold that line on exit and allow the LMP car to pass on the outside. If you are on an outside line in a corner, maintain that line on exit.
  • Have good situation awareness. Understand which cars and how many are around you. Is there one LMP class car attempting to pass or a pack of them. Where do the LMP cars have a big advantage over you (straight, under braking, mid corner).
  • Do not block: GT drivers do not have to move aside for an approaching LMP car, but they are not allowed to "block" or interfere with an LMP car trying to pass.
Remember every driver has their own style and approach to the course. You should take advantage of practices and support races to get to know your competitors and their driving styles and their skill level regardless of which class they are racing. Some drivers have more car control than others, some are more comfortable maintaining close proximity to other cars and some may back off with other cars around.

This event is for fun and drivers of all skill levels are welcome. If you have a problem with that then this probably isn't the event for you. Unintentional mistakes are going to happen, but this is a very long race and you have plenty of time to recover (light damage). However, at the same time, all drivers are expected to drive at a pace in which they can consistently control their car and not jeopardize other drivers. Do not drive faster than your ability to control the car. If during practices and races you are not able to consistently control your car you may be removed from the race and/or demoted to a lower race class at the stewards discretion.

  • Safe Pit Entry: Drivers must keep all four tires within the white lines on pit road entry and must avoid contact with walls. There is no specific speed limit on entry, but the driver may need to slow significantly in order to stay within the boundaries and avoid wall contact. If the boundaries are crossed or wall contact is made the driver can avoid penalty by lifting off the throttle completely for 2 seconds after the car is released from the pits to "self-penalize" otherwise a 10 second penalty will be incurred after the race.

  • Safe Pit Exit: As always, when exiting pit road the driver is responsible for a safe entry onto the racing line and must "yield" to oncoming traffic. Any incident resulting from an unsafe exit will result in a drive through penalty (30 secs) for the driver exiting the pits.

Unfortunately I won't be able to participate in this event. I'm just too busy with work and other IRL stuff.

I have the day of the race off, so if anyone is streaming I may watch it.

Good luck to everyone.

Seems like these events are cursed for me. Due to something in the scedule changing I won't be able to make it tomorrow. I wish all drivers the best of luck!!!

Sorry about this guys , I am having some issues this morning and have to cancel for support races

Sorry guys but I am going to withdraw from these events due to my inability to find enough time to practice. Being of the slower persuasion is enough of a challenge... But ....being slow and out of practice renders me a hazard to navigation. As a result of this I am withdrawing from the "other " league I currently participating in and will spend my time with you guys...if there is a live stream I will be cheering and throwing popcorn.

I had to cancel my entry in the support race. :grumpy:

2 things. First, cannot even get into my own lobby. Second, I have a busy day working on my car and am behind schedule.

Should still make the race tomorrow.

Im dropping out of the second support race. Im less than competitive in the lmp and 2.4 hours in the gt will be enough tomorrow. Gonna save my energy for that race.

I was watching @PASM's stream and sitting at the edge of my seat for the last 3 laps to see if he'd be able to pull it off. The end of the race was so damn close withing a tenth and next to each other across the line. I applaud you both for a job well done. I hope we'll see this later on tonight in F1 as well!

Congrats to @Kjeld Lund and @jammy21 for their podium finishes in Support Race 1

I take my hat off to @Kjeld Lund who won the second Support Race by the epic margin of 0.085!!! Well done 👍

Great job by @Rikson taking the final podium spot in Race 2.

Thank you to all the drivers taking part, I hope you are all geared up for the 2.4 hour enduro tomorrow :D
