Good point, if I'm going to improve as a driver I can't give up so quickly. Its just that this combo is frustrating. The car itself with the ZTZ tune is fun to drive, but make one mistake and you have to drive another 2 minute lap before you get a chance at another one because you need that speed coming out of the backstretch chicane.

Also the braking points are driving mad because there simply isn't any markers or anything of any kind to go off. For turn 1 I have to go off of feel which I hate doing. Brake a split second too late and you overshoot the corner. A split second too early and you slow down way too much. The second right hander in the infield there is no real marker anywhere. Then theres the dreaded backstretch chicane. There is a dark spot in the road that provides a nice reference point as when to brake but going through the chicane is a wild uncontrolled experience that I do not like. My best lap time through there I was in pretty much a four wheel drift all the way through it. I dont like driving a car that way.

It's a tough track. With regards to the first corner, I tend to settle the car without hard braking, it's still hard, but not full on, probably 70%, as you can steer in a bit.

For the chicane, you need to be steady going in to the first apex, if you're steady and straight (use all of the kerbs) then the rest of the chicane is easier. It's difficult to do, you won't do it all the time. It's a track that rewards hitting it lap after lap to get the consistency and feel for what is a tricky track.

I've only test driven this combo, but on the week in the 599, I was using the white pavement stripes as a braking marker for turn 1. For that combo, it was the end of the 3rd stripe after SFL, this would probably be one line later, or more, with the R Tires.

Other areas, things like light pole shadows, start and and of grass, etc. Are helpful.

Hope that helps.

The chicane (imo) needs to be entered as far left as you can get on that first yellow rumble strip on the left side. If you take that wide, that's easily a quarter second gone :ill: Unlike Earth, I rarely use brake markers on the road and I only go by what I feel (and am usually within .1 of predicting my next T split :D). Which serves me very well when it comes to tire wear and being consistent. But makes it hard for me to really improve my hotlap times unless I spend a bunch of time on it to memorize brake spots.

It is ok to share splits mate, but you have to put them on the same line to avoid confusing fetchbot. Like this: 27.798,51.489,1'05.426,1'21.168,1'41.699.

Fortunetely you arent appearing in the leaderboards yet, if you wish to, include your GTP_ PSN into your avatar 👍

edit: Oh! You are on the board! lol. You need to slow down in my opinion though ;)

So the fetchbot is not a real person!:ill: That kind of creeps me out.

I'm sorry, I am new to the WRS. Did not know about all this automated stuff. Thanks for explaining 👍 I've run the TT and have been accepted by sjaak, he said he would add me during the week maybe I started a bit too soon? Sorry if so I'm anxious to get back on the track.

Thanks for the advice. I need to do what Jumpace did and run 20 or so laps straight to get myself into a rhythm. So far I've put about 90 minutes into it, but it was full of starts and stops and my knuckle still hurts after slamming it into a table out of frustration 👎

Hmm I forgot about those stripes. I remember using them with the Ford GT N tire online racing event. This will definitely help. Of all the turns T1 was biting me the most, but this should help remedy that.

Yeah I noticed alot of people go into this turn alot more shallower then I do and they were quicker then me through the chicane because of it. Part of my problem is I try to take the widest angle to any turn possible when that's not always the fastest way around a track, case in point the twisty section at the end of Fuji or the esses at Suzuka.

Also I am somewhat of a cowardly driver, and I dont like turns like Degner 1 & 2 at Suzuka and the backstretch chicane at Daytona. Fast, narrow turns with little room for error. The Viper can handle a driver being aggressive with the wheel through the Daytona chicane. Its got loads of grip with the TZT tune and can handle as much steering input as you can throw at it. All you have to do is keep the speed low enough so it doesnt go off course. Just another example of a bad driving habit that is preventing me from improving.

Well, Jump_Ace heres to spending the next few months TTing with you and the rest of the friendly willing to help members of the WRS

Hopefully, with the help of the WRS, we improve enough to our satisfaction in time for GT5.

I wont lie, I'm dreading going back to racing the Viper at DR because I dont see no room for personal improvement, but hey, no pain no gain. I think I need to experiment with this 'trail braking' technique. We'll see.

Heck yea buddy  to that! It's an uphill battle for sure. I have yet to get an overall good lap in the tuned viper, there is still .4 just sitting out there waiting for me to not put a tire in the grass, or cut the chicane or lose grip just before T2. Tomorrow is a new day with the normal viper as if there is such a thing.

My first real session tonight. Currently using R1's on both ends, and a tune that was previously cobbled together for a different event. My best lap time -

1:41.719

Used the ZTZ tune. Wonderful tune. 1'41.699. Where I am as a driver right now dont see much room for improving it

Welcome to WRS Earth great time on your first wrs, keep at it you'll improve as you go on. 👍

Phillip.

Ahh, I was going to post my first session time but I didn't make a note of it. Because it's online I thought I'd be able to get it off of here http://eu.gran-turismo.com/gb/products/gt5p/ranking/:dunce:

I'll update later, for now I hope this is acceptable:

1'41.399

(it was a .3xx)

EDIT:
1'41.349

Not only did I fail to make a note of my time but I didn't write down my set up either. I've just been on to check my lap and have lost all the car settings; beware!

Dan.

Started later than I'd hoped this week, but had a quick 10 lapper this evening and managed,

1'41.907

Currently running with R2s on both ends, although R1s could be the way forward, and tune needs some work, so plenty of room to improve

Speeed.jpg

Blimey, what happened there!?!

.... warp speed Captain! :sly:

I'm going to need a lot of laps for this week. The one track in the game that I'm not very good at. I blame that on the track not being used a lot in the game.

So far I've got a 1:43.430. 1:43.143

I changed the race details in the leaderboard to match the combo specs - Fetchbot overwrote it a few days ago but this time it seems he leaves it untouched :)

I had a quick blast this morning after re-tuning and made some gains, new lap:

1'40.923

For anyone trying to do their own tune I can recommend paying close attention to the gears.

Hey guys! I'm back from Tuscany and thought I'd give this WRS a go since it's such a nice combo :) I'm very very rusty after a couple of months virtually no GT5P, but after 20 laps the time did come down to:

1'41.581

There's still room for improvement :sly:

GTP_PASM

Nice to see you back Bart, great time too look out D1 👍

I've tried quite a few tunes, and hybrids of tunes as well. For the life of me I just cant decide which one i prefer. I'm literally within a tenth of my best time with every single one. I guess I just need to pick one and stick to it. Favourite so far is the TLD by Dravonic I think 👍 Thank you mate.

Might try and create a tune for myself. Unfortunetely, my weakest area are the gears!

Having fun with it though, very addictive. Would make a superb race venue!

This is the first time for me to do the WRS. I have a practical question; the OP shows "Your run must be done while being OFF LINE" - Does this mean you must be signed out of PSN while lapping? I did this yesterday, but my time still uploaded, although with no country flag.

Hello Alan. Yes you must not be signed on in PSN while setting your lap if that is mentioned in the opening post. You will not be DQ'd for it but it is frowned upon if your name appears in the top 100 list of fastest lap times.

Have a go! It can be fun and is a part of the game so, why not?

With gears, I find that it's easy to identify what you want them to do or not do. The first thing I do is look at the power curves. This graph tells you about the power band of the engine and specifically what rev's you want to use.

With the Viper there's a nice round power curve so long gears are good; more gears are only good when the optimal power peaks in a sharp point. Set the max. speed. next and then run a few laps to see where you are at. Typically, you want to stay in the optimal power band range throughout the lap. If you are shifting up right before a corner then consider making the gears longer, if you aren't reaching max. power before getting to a corner shorten the gear a little. In the tighter corners you may want to use some engine lag by dipping under the optimal power range, this will enable you to get on the throttle earlier. Finally changing gear, in this car especially, is not so good half way around a corner, that is unless you want to see where you came from.

This is the first time for me to do the WRS. I have a practical question; the OP shows "Your run must be done while being OFF LINE" - Does this mean you must be signed out of PSN while lapping? I did this yesterday, but my time still uploaded, although with no country flag.

I think the 'Offline' comment refers to the second part of this week's event. As well as running the tuned Viper around Daytona Road, you also need to run the standard Viper SRT around the oval; that's the bit you do offline.

You will not be DQ'd for it but it is frowned upon if your name appears in the top 100 list of fastest lap times.

Okay, thanks. So is this rule specific to the WRS, or is it for any GTP-tagged username setting laptimes privately (for example, if I just privately pick a random car/track and set laptimes)?

Alan, the offline bit exists purely so that in the context of this event (and it can occur in other events and probably will do once GT5 gets going events-wise) so that people don't know your lap-times, to keep a bit of suspense for results day. Next week for example, we might have an event where it is off-line (it does tend to be) where you can post splits 1 and 2, but not your full lap-time.

It's not a rule that applies in the use of a GTP tag, only in some instances you will be requested to do so. Can take a few weeks to get used to, but you will get used to it.

------

I cannot get this car hooked up at this track. A bit rusty and I've never liked this track or the over-powered cars, don't suit my style at all. Probably submitting with a 42.5 for the Tuned lap.

Okay, thanks for the information people.

---

I'm using that TZT setup from page 1 with the R1/R2 tyres idea, and it works so well compared to R1/R1; greatly improved traction. Still not happy with the way it turns in; it's a bit unpredictable (which is not good for that fast chicane). After 5 proper laps I hit 42.1. Ill try out some different toe settings, but I don't think I'll be shaving more than a few tenths off.

---

New time:

1'41.892
1'41.555
1'41.271
1'41.050

(Just in case anyone is wondering about my missing division tag in the leaderboard - As I've just joined, my username will be added this weekend. So I'll wait until then before doing another lap update).

Hi,
this is the first time I participate in the WRS.
I'm using the setup of TZT Garage that Animera tell and is fantastic.

This is my time after the first session:
1'40.540

Slap an apostrophe into your laptime gtp_wasntme. You're leaving us for dead on the leaderboard!

You know the way that laps are invalidated at the chicane when you put 4 (or maybe 3) wheels on the grass? So, for the WRS does this mean that if the lap stays white in the chicane section, it will be allowed? Or is there an in-between; is it possible to stay white through the chicane, but break the WRS rules?

I'm well aware you need to keep 2 wheels on track. But down at that chicane, with the irregular shape of the curbs, it's a hard one to make out.
