GTP_WRS Week 92 : Taming the Snakes

You know the way that laps are invalidated at the chicane when you put 4 (or maybe 3) wheels on the grass? So, for the WRS does this mean that if the lap stays white in the chicane section, it will be allowed? Or is there an in-between; is it possible to stay white through the chicane, but break the WRS rules?

I'm well aware you need to keep 2 wheels on track. But down at that chicane, with the irregular shape of the curbs, it's a hard one to make out.

Yes, it is possible.

If in doubt, scrap the time.

To further clarify: WRS regulations are more strict than the game's. It is possible to complete a lap recognized by the game which would be disallowed on review by WRS (which is why we generally require the top 3 positions to submit replays of their run).

Our guidance is to review the replay of your run prior to submission, and not to submit if there is any doubt about the validity of the lap.

Made another attempt at this yesterday for about an hour with no improvement :/ Can't wait to see the replays later on.

This week, we'll make use of the PD online time trial at DR. It's been some time since we've had the opportunity to run a proper combo at DR, meaning an FR musclecar on race tires. It reminds me of the last online events in Spec II, when 750PP at DR was the event of choice. :)

When was that? I remember roughly when I joined the forum about two years ago a similar event was running; I'm using the very same car. It's a shame that such events aren't held online any more. It's not quite the same around HSR is it.

I have to admit, I'm loving this tuned Viper :D, I must remember to do a few laps around the oval too. :dopey:

I notice in the previous event, the rules say that a 2nd opinion can be sought about whether a lap is clean or dirty. Does the same apply for this event; could I put a clip of my chicane pass on YouTube to get an opinion before submission?

I know - if in doubt, scrap the time. If I were judging my replay, I'd say 2 wheels are in. But my inexperience in judging replays for these events could be a factor.

Almost exactly 2 years ago, August 2008. My car of choice was the Amuse S2000, and the Corvette/Tuned dominated (along with the GTLM).

I raced with several tagged members, and it's still my favorite event to date. :)

PM me and I'll give you an email to send it to. I'd rather act as second opinion, than a public post.

Whenever I'm curious about a time, I just ask a friend to look at it and if they aren't sure either, it gets trashed. Of course, no one is perfect. I remember a buddy of mine here in Portland looked at my replay a looooong time ago from El Capitan and I had almost 4 tires off :ouch: I just didn't even bother looking closely/pay any attention at all on the quick left before T2 on the bridge :dunce: Assumptions are bad medicine, haha.

Made a slight improvement with a very hairy lap. I have a goal in sight and I think i can acheive it. F1 free sunday means lots of time to get a lap in. Fortunetely for me I seem to be able to get up to speed in this combo faster than most. Good luck guys, next improvement will more than likely be my submisson.

Its lucky for you that there are people in here who will take the time to check your replay, but I wouldnt start counting on it as one week its possible no one will have the time. So, 'if in doubt, scrap the time'!

Its very easy to see if you're off in the chicane this week. Just watch the replay in the default option. Dont switch to cockpit view or anything and you'll get a clear view of your car coming through the bus stop. Hope this helps 👍

Yeah, the first thing I did was record the replay to my PC. Backwards-external view is the only one to give the required view. At full speed, it looks fine. When scrolling through the frames, it's either clean, or inconclusive, to me. But a WRS regular may have another opinion.

Anyway, I sent EDK a clip, so I'll see what he thinks. Until then I'm going to do more laps and try to get a clean <=41.2 .

Alan,a good way to check the chicane is to upload the replay, start the run, turn backwards when the ghost is activated, drive to the chicane, position yourself in front of the corner, wait for the ghost to arrive and pause the game when the car hit the uncertain clean spot.

If you just remember that rumble strips are part of the track, that run looks to be easily clean. 👍 I can't see the left rear wheel on entry (Right side of track), but it looks OK to me. You do need to make sure it's on, from the back view.

In the future, I'd prefer to have the full replay sent (Instructions on how to do that can be found here) - https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=3180607&postcount=2

Thanks for the review. The left-rear does the same as the left-front, although it looks a bit more clear cut. I've recorded it a few times to get a different sync (my camera records at 30fps), and I fail to get a frame to show either left front or rear on the grass & not touching tarmac. So I'll go ahead with this lap.

And on that note, that's me all out; no way I'm going to improve that time!

First half of tonights session done, and another small improvement,

1'41.733

Still finding the entry to the bus stop a little 'hit & miss', most laps I either brake too late or too early. Occasionally I get it right

EDIT: Session over and a miniscule amount shaven off,

1'41.701

Still not hit my target (with a clean lap) but it's within reach, just need to get the bus stop nailed.

I've submitted with my current posted time.
I've had faster laps, but they are all dirty by a couple of cm's. :(
Good luck everyone.

I don't think I'm going to improve my time. I know I can go faster but not cleanly and it's just going to make me more frustrated if I keep trying. That bus stop is killing my lap and I'm going to end up thrashing my DS3 if I keep going.

Happy with the combo! 👍

Love the car! 👍

Ticked that my only chance to run it was for about an hour this morning 👎👎

Hopefully it will rain this afternoon & i'll get out of pressure cleaning the patio :)

Managed to make a big improvement with a somewhat lucky bus stop this morning. That was after I made a small improvement yesterday, and forgot to save my lap. :ouch:

Still need to do my Superspeedway run, but this will be my Road Course submission.

Well what can I say? I really hooked it up in this session:

1'41.623

I had a goal of reaching the 41's today and as you can see absolutely smashed it. Really really happy with that. Although there are still 2 tenths just laying in the road at the bus stop. Was up by .3 coming off of the last split before the bus stop, went over the line .1 up :grumpy: Probably my best ever drive through the infield though, doubt I can do it again. This time will probably be my submission guys, good luck 👍

After my final run in this combo, I'm submitting with,

1'41.641

Best of luck guys 👍

1'41.767

Frustrating session of 30 laps or so, I know I'm losing .2 in the exit of the bus-stop, but the margins are so tight, plus another .4 (from best splits) in the infield. Still, content with the lap in a car I don't really like at a track I don't really like! :D

Good luck all.

Submitting with this lap time: 1'42.257
I did this with my new wheel. So It was a very frustrating combo. I hope next week is going to more fun.

What a thoroughly enjoyable week of WRS'ing! I didn't put too many laps in on the oval but running around the road circuit in the tuned Viper is as near as it gets to GT heaven on prologue for me.

Anyways, I've submitted with the lap that's on the board, good luck everyone.

Dan.

You took the words right out of my mouth! Word for word.

Good luck everyone 👍
