Time Submitted to CAMikaze. Hope i did better than last time :(

Qualifying:

23.812
46.758

Pink Sunshine late to rise, but the #99 car is liking the circuit.

I'm not practicing more, gonna go straight to races now and submit. :)

EDIT: Submitted. The feature race was hilarious. Plenty of good-natured door battering (light for me nipping through the pack, but the AI were going at each other hammer and tongs. :D)

Hmmm... I guess I am being too hard on my tyres. I am able to run the 14 laps, but my best lap is around 9-10 and the performance is trailing off after that. My last lap is still better than my second one, but I wouldn't want to do 15 on these tyres, they are almost red now... and no way can I go to 17!

Just got through with the sprint race, but my PS2 is acting up again. Might be a while before I get to do the feature race.

Qualifying: Check...
Sprint Race: Check...
Feature Race: Watching right now...

Just for fun:

Welcome racefans to Midfield Raceway for the first round of the International Clio Challenge Feature Race of 14 laps. Today's challenger is the British number 99 'Pink Sunshine' Clio of Venari. And they're on the grid... the starter is waving his hanky - he sneezes, the hanky turns green, and they're away! Good launch but the underpowered Clio is last by 5 lengths going under the bridge. The Peugeot is second on the grid but has fluffed the start, with the Altezza coming up on one side and the Ford close by on the other as they pile into turn 1.

43 ASL ARTA Garaiya leads 40 Altezza, 2 Peugeot, 8 Ford RS200, Renaults Maxi (3) and Clio (99) through turn one, with the sixth place Clio going wide for an audacious move around the outside of the Maxi! The RS200's monstrous power to weight leaves the Peugeot standing yet they trade paint, chased hard by the two Renaults. The Renaults are neck and neck as they sweep through turn 2 up to the esses, the Clio having nosed ahead through the turn but the Maxi's superior power puts him ahead into the esses - but no, the Clio takes a wide line and cuts across the back of the Maxi, slingshotting up the inside like a rocket - WOW - what a move, AND AGAIN! That must have looked like someone was drawing a smear of lipstick across the Peugeot's mirrors as the Clio jinks hard from left to right to take the 205 on the inside of the next corner! But no! The Peugeot closes him down hard but far too late, they bash doorhandles pretty hard and the Clio keeps the hammer down as he struggles to keep control. The Peugeot, spotting the Maxi coming up fast, does the same dirty trick and sideswipes the Phillips Autoradio Renault as they haul up the hill towards the underpass - and the Maxi nearly spinning because of it. Black flag, surely for the Pug. Shocking racing, terrible, terrible sportsmanship.

As they enter the underpass it's Garaiya, Altezza, Ford, Clio, Maxi, 205, and the Clio has a good line, braking less than the powerful Ford. He's got him too, the Ford just backs off and the grippy Clio takes a wider but faster entry into the Razo curve while the RS200 grabs the kerbs. The other French challngers are still battering each other in fifth and sixth, the Maxi getting an attitude and pushing the 205 wider and wider through the curve - the stewards will be all over that, I'm sure.

All this action is letting the Arta Gariya get away as they scream down to the bombhole kink and tunnel hairpin. The Clio has got a good run on the Altezza though and makes a move up the inside into the first kink - this could be nasty... but he takes a good chunk of kerb and the Altezza, wisely, stays well out of the way - good driving there from the grey 40 car - the Altezza has a good line, wide, on the right, ready to pull inside of the Clio on the exit, for Venari has dived very hard and tight into the left of the track, spitting flames from the rear of the 99 Clio. No, he's made it stick, the Altezza has to brake at the apex and the Clio is off up and under the hill.

Right behind the 40 car, the Maxi has made a fine pass on the RS200 under the brakes, and runs over the rumble strips on the exit as they haul neck and neck into the tunnel's darkness - the RS200 is always going to win this battle, but the Altezza moves over to take the line! The RS200 brakes as the little Renault keeps his foot in and punishes the touring car's choice by passing both cars - spectacular move and the Ford is boxed in! Amazing! There's some pushing and shoving though and the Peugeot has made ground, they both move outside of the Altezza, the Peugeot coming from the rear having the advantage coming over the crest and the RS200 trading yet more paint as they pass the second bridge.

At the end of the lap the Arta leads the Clio by 0.934 seconds, then it's the Maxi, followed by the hardfighting Peugeot and Ford with the Altezza losing the power struggle and falling behind in sixth.

Lap 2, and all cars follow good lines through turns 1 and 2, and the Clio isn't closing much on the Arta, but turn 3 is the pink car's forte, and Venari takes the faster entry, going round the outside of the Arta in the first part, leaving the Arta as if it is standing still as they approach the underpass once more, 0.607 ahead at the first split. The Arta is good under brakes and the gap closes briefly, but the Clio puts that power down very well as it goes under the tunnel. There's a puff of smoke and a quick correction from the Clio as Venari tries just a touch too much throttle on the Razo curve, but he's away and the field is now thinning as we enter the close of lap 2, the Clio over a second ahead. What a start!

Now we drop back and watch the superior power of the group B cars haul in the Garaiya. As the blast out of the tunnel up the hill the Maxi and Peugeot are visibly closing the Garaiya down... and the number 3 Maxi is making his move at the first bridge and simply powers past the orange 43 car as they slip past the second bridge. What grunt! And he's not letting the Clio go either, as he powers through turns 1 and 2 it looks like the beginning of a hard charge from the blue car... but it's still not able to match the Clio's pace through the esses.

Now into lap 3, the focus is on third, fourth and fifth, it's a tic-tac battle for much of the lap between the rally cars both holding the Arta in sight but the RS200 makes a brutal maneouver under both power and brakes coming down the hill to the kink... but he's overcooked it and the number 2 Pug noses into the inside in the hairpin... ooooh, doorhandles lock as they take the first left up the hill into the sunshine, and the Pug is on the grass! The Ford takes a lot of its own kerb on the right and they go under the bridge wing to wing and hauling the Arta in hard - oh, the Pug is boxed... he moves over but the RS200 is there, ooh, there's contact, the RS200 simply rockets past the Garaiya, with the 205 boxed behind lifting off - oh, this is edge of the seat stuff folks!

It looks as if the Clio has made an error in the first turns of lap 4, the Maxi is right up to Venari in the Pink Sunshine 99 Clio.. but yet again the Clio takes the much smoother line through the esses and is away. Will the RS200 catch up? The maxi brakes aggressively into the hairpin, but the Clio is maintaining the line, unflustered - it looks as if the Maxi is really trying too - clipping the grass as they haul up the hill, but it simply can't match the smooth precision of the Clio, using every horsepower and keeping all four wheels on the tarmac - oh no! He's clipped the grass at the top of the hill and the Maxi is through! Oh, what a battle! And the Clio tucks into the slipstream aggressively and the whole stadium erupts as the two Renault scream up to turn 1! In the background, the Pug nails the Arta on the straight and the rally battle for third is on.

Lap five and we know what the Clio is like into the esses... but he's a little ragged, the loss of downforce making the Clio skip out on the exit... and he's right in the slipstream, just 0.163 seconds behind at the first split broken at 24.463 for the Maxi. And under the tunnel the Clio's got a better drive - HE'S ALL OVER THE MAXI! And they nearly touch into Razo but the Maxi holds the line... it's got the aerodynamic advantage here - which is saying something for the bricklike numnber 3 car - the Clio falls behind and a 0.78 second lead has been pulled out - incredible racing! But this time he's making that gap stick, the Maxi is outpacing the Clio easily on the straight. The race is settling now, but as the Maxi exits the Razo curve, there's a telltale cloud of dust as it runs wide on the rumble strip - is the Clio's hard tyre choice going to win out of they soft-shod rest of pack? Watching the Clio coming in on a fourwheel drift braking for the hairpin is something quite, quite special, but probably not what the Maxi driver is concentrating on right now. It's certainly something the next three cars are concetrating on - the RS200 has gone very wide, and the Peugeot closes right up with the Garaiya in tow, they're practically tied to each other as they go into the hairpin, but the powerful rally cars open the lead again on the straight.

It easy to say the cars are settling at lap six, but let's watch them all go through the Razo curve again... first the Maxi... fast entry, but running wide and scrubbing off 15 mph running the rumble strips... the Clio, slower, but smooth... and OH! The RS200 runs on the grass and spins, followed by the Peugeot with an identical pirhouette! And the ASL ARTA Garaiya splices them down the middle with barely a lift, the marshalls didn't even have time to weave the yellows! Stunning - and amazing there wasn't a further accident there. And the rally cars check their mirrors for the Altezza but are off, Ford then Peugeot before the sixth place man comes around the corner.

We'll be right back, after these messages from our sponsors.

:D

Well when GT5 comes, that'll be awesome. Anyone fancy a job as commentator?
We'll be right back after these messages from our sponsors.
:D
After a word from you local station:sly:

Nice commentary Venari! Quite entertaining.

However, I am a little perturbed by the fact you AREN'T in first place by at least the end of the first lap.
I'm running with the AI set to +10, and I'm way infront by the line.

Those that can race with the big dogs, and win, do.
Those that can't, commentate!:D

J/K, maybe?

Neil

@ GTXDriver re: Your teaming up w/Carlito

Sorry if it took me so long to get back to you, but I'll make the appropiate changes in the Entry Lists later on. For now, I'll get to work on the results and await any more times submissions.:)

Update: I have just posted the results. Looks like we have a trio of Hungarians fighting for dominance already. But it's only the first round of the season.;) I'll work on the points tables tomorrow and post the Round 2 thread soon afterwards.:D

I put the +10 opposition on softs in the feature race, so I could do a bit of draughting and when their pitstop came up I would be cruising.

I hear the gauntlet being thrown... I wasn't far behind you this race, and I only ran the sprint once and the feature maybe five starts to get a clean first lap.

In Suzuka, I shall be your nemesis. :D

Good race. I didn't have too much motivation to improve my quali time, since I knew I couldn't break into the podium anyway...

Japan... here I come!!!

Congratulations to GTXDriver & fantomas40 for winning the sprint/feature races and to Carlito for scoring the pole lap. 👍

OKies Clio Cup Racers, the Points Standings have been posted for you to look over as well as a little summary by yours truly. :D

@ Venari: If you haven't done so already, please have a look in your Inbox.

With that, it's on to Round 2 at Suzuka! :sly:👍

Heyo CAMi, pretty sure I sent my times to you, a few minutes after the deadline admittedly but I thought I could still get in the final results even if I get docked a few seconds, right? Or was I supposed to send it to you and RACECAR?

Even while you submitted late, you still did the right thing. I see that he has mistakingly forgot to put you in the results so I'll inform him.

Well, I got the times from you at about 12:25 am EDT on Monday morning(almost 4.5 hours past when the times were due). The deadline for the race was Sunday night at 8 pm EDT, or 12 midnight GMT. If you were living out on the west coast, that would make the deadline time 5 pm PDT. There was also a grace period of 2 hours after the deadline where you would get a time penalty of 1 second added to the qualifying and race times for each minute after the deadline the submissions were sent in up to 2 hours afterwards. That would make it 10 pm EDT Sunday that you would have to have your times sent to me if they were to be included in the results. But since I had recieved the times at 12:25 am EDT on Monday morning, I'm sorry to say I can not accept the times that you submitted to me. Sorry about that Yoshi. :guilty: I hope you'll understand what I said.

Hopefully you'll have better luck for the next round.:)

You're right, it was a typo on my part. Even though I have it written down on my paper correctly! :embarrassed:

I'll see what I can do about this. I have the Drivers points standings corrected. I'll see about the other points tables.

Update: All fixed.:sly:👍
