General Information and Regulations

As with last season there will be three types of race event during the season. There will be 4 Standard rounds of 50mi and 5 Enduro rounds of 100mi and 1 Super-Enduro round of 150mi.

Week starts on Monday, with times to be sent via PM by 11.59pm GMT on Sunday

There is NO HP penalty for joining the series part way through the season.

All rules, regulations, car specifications, and races are controlled by GTPCTC sanctioning body, umm...me for now unless the GTMSA wants to pick me up :P. Any and all questions should be directed to GTPCTC officials (namely me..and anyone else who wants to help out) and officials will do their best to answer in a timely and accurate manor.

All drivers must run at the specified weights and horsepower settings provided by me for each round. Horsepower and/or weight settings are adjusted for competitive reasons each round based on finishing positions from previous rounds.

* Standard Online Racing Rules Apply.
* No Cheating, hybrids, etc. You must run the car specifications I give you
* Try keeping at least 2 wheels on course. Long races = small mishaps, but absolutely NO shortcuts
* No wall-riding as well. Combined with penalties, this will slow you down considerably, so don't do it.
* All decisions by GTMSA officials are final
* The race track for this season will be defined as the area between the white or yellow lines. This means rumble strips do not count as track.

Race

* Single race (arcade mode) lasting either 50mi (standard) or 100mi (enduro) with the exception of Round 9 which is a 150mile race, but will be considered an enduro.
* Weight penalties in place
* SS, SM, SH tires or any combination thereof
* Strong Tyre Wear
* AI difficulty is player's choice between 0 and 10. No negatives.
* Ai tyres SS
* Forced Pit Entry penalty system
* ASM is prohibited TCS is optional
* Points for race: 10-8-6-4-2-1

G'Day all,
Times submitted and a few notes on Races for you.
(not in the same league as Parnelli Bone for Race reporting but hopefully some info value :) ).

CTC Rd 4 @ Fuji 2005GT
GS Class
AI @ +6 for 189 points.
Spent all of race being harassed by a troupe of Lotii :scared:
I pitted @ lap 9,18,27 ( SS tyres all the way ).
Won race by 00 . 105 seconds  over the most persistent Lotus Esprit V8 ’02 ( which pitted every ten laps). So we spent all Race leapfrogging each other every pitstop. The other Lotii usually 3 – 7 seconds behind me all race.
Phew !
Full Field :
Lotus Esprit V8 SE
Lotus Esprit V8 ‘02
Lotus Esprit GT ‘98
Audi RS 6
Aston Martin DB7 Vantage

ST Class
Picked the wrong AI for this @ +5 although it seemed promising to start with.
Lotus Elise 111R took off and was never headed. I was left battling a Toyota Caldina with a brace of Honda S2000’s in close attendance. I was enjoying the battle until I had to pit shortly after passing Caldina.
After that game over for me as the Hondas went past and refused to pit until laps 12 & 13 :grumpy:
I ended up a distant fourth, lapped by the Lotus and a long way behind Hondas who with only 2 stops and better lap times outmatched my Golf which I should have pitted end of every 8 laps.
Of course I tried extending the time between pitstops but that just meant losing 3 to 4 seconds a lap on wearing tyres.
Also annoying was the fact I ran on SH for 2 stints then SM for last stint
( which did not help at all ) as 3 leaders ran away on seemingly everlasting SS tyres. Grr.
Actually found Race very tedious and could not be bothered restarting to try and find a more challenging but winnable Race after completing 13 laps.
Possibly 36 laps is just too many for this Class , 26 would be more interesting as deciding if 2 or 3 stops is the best strategy. Just a thought.

I might can my ST efforts or possible switch Cars to a more interesting one.

Full Field ;
Toyota Caldina GT4
Honda S2000 V
Honda S2000 ‘03
Alfa Romeo 147 GTA
Lotus Elise 111R

## Supershouden could you withdraw my ST time as it was a pathetic effort and I do not wish to post my entry this round ?

Cheers.

Yea those Honda S2000s go forever without a pitstop. It's weird how Arcade mode is so different from Sim mode in regards to tire-wear.

I think there's a Grand Am race today on Speed, but it's the Rolex series; not the CTC. CTC is next Sunday if I'm not mistaken.

## Supershouden could you withdraw my ST time as it was a pathetic effort and I do not wish to post my entry this round ?

Cheers.

AWWW c'mon! How do you know my ST time wasn't also pathetic??? And even if I (or someone else) beat you, you'll still probably get some points since nobody's competing in ST!

alright. I can do that. :P I didn't qualify for this round, so I won't be participating in it. :P

Heh. I may just let Bob handle ST then! :dunce: If you guys keep dropping out like this...

^ Ugh, I could never do that...I'm afraid of heights. If the world were full of Parnelli Bones, every house would be no taller than 2 stories. But I love flying on big jet planes, oddly...love looking down out the window. Maybe because it's like watching TV, wheras being in a hot air balloon seems alot more immediate.

I did my GS race at +6. Was mildly interesting because there was a '74 Jensen (which immediately dropped far behind), a Porsche Boxter, a Toyota Supra SZ-R, and a couple others I'm forgetting. The Porsche (excuse me...RUF) wound up 3.7 seconds behind me as I pulled out of my final pitstop, so there was at least a little bit of drama towards the end because I wasn't sure if it would just pass me or not (its tires were warmed, etc). But I wound up winning. :)

The ST class was at +3. I drove, then I let Beth drive. Beth Speccioci...she's Italian. :P Then I drove again, and then Beth. By this point, today's Grand-Am Rolex event at New Jersey was on SpeedTV, and I was watching it just as much as I was paticipating/watching the ST race!

You'd be utterly surprised by how serene it is, my wife & another lady in the balloon both claimed to be petrified of heights, but our pilot assured them it's all a relative thing, and just like you enjoying the sensation of looking out from a jet plane, you don't have that vertigo sensation from the balloon. It's all to do with looking down and knowing you're not high up and tethered to something on the ground.
Neither of the people in the balloon who claimed to suffer vertigo had any negative effects at all, and both thoroughly enjoyed the flight.

Anyway, just finished a 195 A-spec point race against +5 AI, featuring 3 Jaguars and 2 Plymouths as my opponents. 👍 Won it by about 20s from an XKR R-Performance.
Ran SM/SS tyres (F/R) to do 3 x 12 lap stints with 2 stops, and it was the left rear that seemed to suffer most wear, almost completely dark orange at the end of 12 laps.
Only had 2 moments of AI contact, both with the wayward Plymouth Super Bird on his overcooked tyres on lap 33, and 1 moment where 4 of my tyres briefly stepped outside the white lines between turns 13 & 14 on lap 29.
Fastest lap came in on lap: 15.

This weeks musical accompaniment while racing (iPod on random shuffle):
Gravity - Embrace, Aftermath (Featuring MC Soom T) - The Orb, Have A Cigar - Pink Floyd, Eight Hundred And Thirteen Mile Car Trip - They Might Be Giants, Prodigal Son - Electronic, Cast Your Pod To The Wind - They Might Be Giants, The Fix - Elbow, Let's Stay Together - Isaac Hayes, Enterlude - The Killers, 5 8 6 - New Order, Why Did You Grow A Beard? - They Might Be Giants, Your Hand In Mine - Explosions In The Sky, Theme From "The Men" - Isaac Hayes, Rodney Yates - David Holmes, Six Days At The Bottom Of The Ocean - Explosions In The Sky, Rain Song - Inspiral Carpets, Be Mine - David Gray.

Okay, I will let my ST entry stand.
I appreciate your confidence in me, just hope it is not misplaced :dopey:

I noted with the Nissan in the GS race I could not get within a Bulls roar of my Qualifying lap time even though I was on the same tyres.
It was not from lack of trying ( being hunted down by several Lotii will do that to you !! ).
I wonder why ?

Also forgot to mention I nearly ran out of petrol in the GS Race, noticed my tank was on empty with two red bars showing on the last lap
Lucky eh.
Good luck to those remaining in the Races.

edit - must have posted at the same time as you Smallhorses.
I would be happy to try a trip but there is no way my Wife would do it.
She cannot even watch anything to do with heights on TV !
I understand the Balloon motion is silent because of travelling with the wind but do you get any sense of motion ?

Greetings fellow racers!

I ran my first GS race at level 3 difficulty and could only manage 2nd place (by quite a margin) against a streaking Honda NSX!

So I reset the difficulty level to 4 and had a nice race against a slightly stronger field, but with no NSX. Thankfully, I took the lead during my first stint, and was only relegated to 2nd place for one lap during my first pit stop.

Neither race had much drafting, nor much AI interference once Turn One was negotiated on lap 1.

It is fun to watch the old muscle cars swing their weight around as they try to negotiate various turns. Just stay out of the way!

Enjoy the racing,
GTsail

Tire wear is not a factor during qualifying. So it seems the game is simulating the perfect tire temperature/grip during Trial Lap mode, with no tire degradation. During a race, one tire usually heats up faster than the others. One side usually has more grip than the other, and so forth.

Yea, I'm like...why do they even put old muscle cars in these races? It would really make more sense if all 5 Ai were on the same page.

Noooo. The idea of looking down on everything sounds great to me, but I'm one of those guys who gets scared on a ladder. The idea of open space over anything more than a 2nd story freaks me out! If the balloon were completely enclosed by some sort of dome window, maybe...but what fun would that be?

My fastest lap in GS was right towards the end; maybe the 2nd to last lap. FUel tank was on one bar, and I managed a good draft following some slowpoke down one of the straights. I was also consciously trying to conserve my left front tire by taking Turn 3 (long right curve) conservatively, but during those last few laps I let all hell loose. Not sure if it helped or not to drive more conservatively, but I did manage 1 pitstop less than I thought I would need to take, so we'll see the results when SS gets here.

You'll be happy that you decided to remain in the race as, you, viper, won, beating your competition by a minute. The ten points you got has jumped you up to 3rd place overall in ST class.

Except that was not my Race time for the ST class, it appears I have posted the winning time of the Elise 111R not my time, I finished 2 minutes and 17 seconds behind him.
Which makes my time , 1' 16 . 55 . xxx but unfortunately a non valid entry.
Sorry.

Just 3.2s difference after an hour and 10 minutes of racing!
Nice going PB, 👍 and some great fastest laps from everyone.
I have to admit I sacrificed a little fastest lap speed to preserve tyres so that I could make the race a 2-stopper, as I figured it was the only chance I had of being competetive here with 5% extra weight and the mile-long straight.
I was mostly running consistently in the 1'55.2xx - 1'55.7xx area with the odd foray into the 1'54s.

Roll on Round 5! :D
Still doing a great job with this series SuperShouden, thanks again for organising it all, and hopefully you'll be back in the driving seat for the next race.

you're welcome. :P and with Deep Forest looming, I'll be participating in the next one. Long race though. I think it's 47 laps for the full thing.

I'm a certified "Endurance Freak!" :sly:
Clicky that light blue link in my signature and you'll find all the proof you'll ever need of that!!
100 miles is but a trifling warmup race!

Cool. I really like Deep Forest. Great efforts everyone, looking forward to the next race.

Results updated. PB, you got 20 seconds added to your ST time because you didn't submit a qualifying time for ST.

Viperin, you get DQ 'cause you submitted the wrong time. (I think that works, don't you?)

Nice race Smallhorses!

3 seconds!!

I think that I could just barely see you ahead on the track when I was coming out of turn 16 on the last lap!

If I was just a little closer, I might have caught a nice draft off your horsepower challenged steed, and would have blasted right on by you at the finish line!

I suspect my lap times where not as consistent as yours, which was my downfall. I have not driven enough races at Fuji 2005 GT, in slow cars, so my lines through the corners leave much room for improvement.

Happy racing,
GTsail
