Just wondering, for my first time playing Fantasy Football how I did. I know I got lucky there at the end but what could I have done to make my team more stable points wise instead of either scoring really low or pretty high? I couldn't ever tell if my guys were going to do well or leave me with almost nothing. Or is that just how it goes with this?
That's just how it goes sometimes. You can have the greatest player ever and then one bad twist of the ankle will end his, and your, season.
Everyone has plans to pick the same 2-3 guys for every position. Those guys will be consistent, assuming no injuries. But it is all the other players that make or break the game. These guys can be good for a medium level of points per game, but occasionally they have an amazing game or get prevented from doing anything.
That is what you have to take into account during the draft. Sometimes you get lucky. I had Kaepernick in my pay league. He was drafted as a solid bench QB. He single-handedly kept me afloat all season. The other was Jamaal Charles. He was drafted as a bench RB just by default of bye weeks. He was the winning factor in the playoff games. He only started at all in those games because of injuries.
Those two players made me the champion, despite having the lowest total points by 10% less than the next lowest points. I beat the first and second ranked teams to win it all.
Here is me compared to the three teams I beat in the playoffs.
If not for my win/loss record you wouldn't think I had a chance, especially against the nearly undefeated Exhausted Nihilists.
In short: Luck is just as much of the game as your knowledge.
