I honestly think if the gaming companies wanted to make the best game, they would host forums for the games (or at least the major games) so they could know exactly what people want rather than giving them what they think people want. They could host polls and such for certain areas of the game. That way we would know that we're making a difference in the production of the game.

The general consensus is that PD - or at least Sony - do read GT fansites. I can't imagine why they wouldn't.
Of course, it comes with a huge disclaimer; they will never directly admit they got an exact idea directly from [insert GT-fan-site here], for legal resaons. But they can no longer ignore everything we say, just as they can't ignore the competition any longer.

So who's the member who mentioned wanting more license tests and mission halls? If it occurs, we'll know who's first to be banned when GT5 arrives!

It sure as hell beats any kind of market research I've seen. I mean, you're getting a direct link to fans who know what they want and are willing to offer feedback. Who the hell passes that up? Trust me, I'm a marketing major.

Mind you, PD would still be objective about it. They'd have to be. Yamauchi-san obviously has a vision of where he wants Gran Turismo to go, and if fan feedback is positive towards such sentiments, obviously it's another reason to include it. That said, I wouldn't say the forum has a huge influence over them. It's probably a reactive thing rather than a proactive way of seeking information out (ie they wouldn't actively search the forums or fan sites for information; they'd do that fairly late in the cycle of developing one part of the game).

They come here. They read. It has an influence.

If you are in the business of making a product, and there are independent means of evaluating the responses of customers without filtration, you use it. What better way to determine how you are doing? From the inside, the developer can quickly determine who on a fansite has something viable to say and those whos expectations were/are completely out of line with the budget and timeframe for development. There is much to be learned from dedicated fans who make valid points that may not be obvious to the developer.

Beyond the business reasons, pure human curiosity will drive them here. I build racing engines for a living. There are many websites I can go to and read what people think of my work and how the engines perform. Even though I don't own the business, I take great pride in what I do, and browsing the various comments helps me to understand where I can improve and gives me a boost hearing about the things I do well.

Trust me, they come here. Maybe not all the time, maybe not everyone who works there, but we are being heard.

I bet it's hard to filter GT Planet for good info since many wishlists e.t.c. become unserious. But i also think it's a fact that they come here to read. The interview at Leipzig is sort of a proof for that. They may not have a paid scout but i think their english-speaking employees are very interested in reviews of their work.

Just imagine working for PD at the car physics part. If i got a ten minute break i would love to go to the "Best Handling Cars" Thread to compare the different cars with some of the creators around me. :)

Also think of this: if you're an employee at Polyphony Digital, perhaps it's forbidden to announce on a website who you are.

I think "Forbidden" is a strong word. I've signed my fair share of NDAs, and have never had to agree to not revealing my identity or showing my origin anywhere...

Don't you think it might be a pretty good idea to NOT sign up with your "@Poly-Digital.com" address. I mean, imagine the amounts of PMs if someone discovered your address was Kaz@ aforementioned ? ;-)

Well, I'm not sure something like a petition with 90 sigs is going to make much of an impact. :ouch: Don't get me wrong, I signed it! I just don't think 90 people is enough in the numbers game. :(

RACECAR
All because of FM2? Honestly, I don't really feel that as good as that game is, its gonna be that much of a impact on what PD does next. I just don't see it happening just because of one feature, buts thats me.
Actually, the anime liveries in FM2 gave me the impression that FM2's editor was a hit in Japan (not that you've got to be from Japan to want an anime livery). Point is, I think that part of FM2 was a real hit in Japan and I wouldn't be suprised to see something similar in GT5 just to keep up with the competition. 👍

Yes but Kazunori has not even tried forza :)
PD is so big company that there is at least someone reading or even posting to gtplanet.net

yet he/or she slips under the radar on the site. that makes me think, wonder bout the hybrids.

I believe this website has a big influence on the devlepoment of the GT games. Just take a look at this thread for an example...

Umm, how does thiseven begin to prove anything?
There was very good evidence that PD could release a US version, the fact that GTHD got released in english in what i think was a day or two later than the japanese version is a very strong indicator that they were going to release a US version of prologue.

I've never worked for a company that required an NDA, so i was just speculating.

Yeah, it wouldn't be pretty!

Well, there are hackers.

Well, I would like to believe that we play at least some part in how a game is made (much less Gran Turismo). I think back to when one guy wanted to see the 1990 Fiat Panda in GT4. Did we get it? Sure did. We play a part, and I think we should play some sort of factor. We're their fans after all. Unless we're coming up with outrageous and otherwise insane ideas, PD will really have a look. That's the deal. I really believe we are at least being read. To what extent? I'm not sure. I do hope that we play part of a factor in how the next GT should be. And as I say, they'll listen to you... just not necessarily you. Just about EVERY fan site is having some sort of say on how the next GT should be structured no matter what anyone thinks or believes. We play a part. So our influence is not a significant one, but just enough to help us and others get the best Gran Turismo possible to the extent of PD's abilities and what they can program. The future is brighter for GT thanks in part to what we'd think would make the game amazing despite the cries of hardcore critics.

Well, there are hackers.
I seriously need you to explain that one... I have NO idea what you mean.

Hackers, You know, people who hack your personal stuff like your e-mail address or profile and so forth. Thats what I mean.

OMG! Hackers hack!

But seriously, I didn't get it either. Care to explain? (I already got the what-hackers-do thing, so you can skip that)

What I'm saying is that a hacker could possibly hack into the profile, possibly trace the IP address to the e-mail or the location of the computer and then boom, Secret Identity revealed.

I do believe you're seing ghosts here ;-)

Part of my job is network security for a major ISP in Denmark, and what you just said - won't happen....

Should I debunk your post or just leave it ?....

...You should put it to them, maybe they will consider it!

Its being so long and we havent seen one bit of damage in GT and this makes me nervous, then they said only race cars would have damage which worried me even more... I want all cars all damage! They promised before!!! :indiff:

Robin

They never promised...but...we had mechanical damage in GT2, if i'm not mistaken, it's been a while since i played it but i'm pretty sure there was mechanical damage....as long as theres a good internal damage system in GT5, that really covers most damage needs for now...
