Does anyone have actual ties with the manufacturing of these models? Some of the plastic parts are rather intricate, unique bits that are limited to a specific run of models. I'd guess we're talking styrene for the most part, but are we hand-deleting the flash on some vacuum former bits, while using certain standardized injection bits? Then maybe each one has a run of "chromed" bits, siver bits etc. It still seems like a lot of tooling investment on maybe 40 parts per model, and maybe 2000 units, it just doesn't add up at 60USD a model.

Anyone care to do a breakdown on the manufacturing numbers/process/materials on these things?

I wonder the same. Perhaps low wages countries?

Most mid-ranged models such as Kyoshos and AUTOarts usually have anywhere from 100 to 200 parts made from various materials. And most are made in production runs ranging from 3000-10000 units, although additional colors can add more units. These models are also pretty complex, I have taken apart many myself <__<
Some are a pain to get apart and back together, and the sheer number of parts can make it harder, depending on model. Though, some fairly complex models can be simple, depending on the brand and the type of car...
But as far as the cost goes, you also gotta factor in licensing costs, along with the cost of research and development, not to mention all the tooling and such. Then you gotta pay the workers that make it (even if it isnt that much...) along with transportation. Oh, and material costs...
But even with all that, I still personally can't see how they can justify the massive price increases over the past few years. Especially with the poorer quality control of some recent AUTOart models...

👍 Sure is a nice model.

Thanks :)

My real life bike in 1/6th scale. Even the colors match mine (but I painted the brake rotors/calipers to make them more real looking.)

Dale Earnhardt Jr.

2010 Daytona Raced Win 1/24 scale Nationwide COT.

Finally arrived today, ordered it the morning after the race, It's pretty nice, however the production run was 18,333 not the 3,333 it was originally supposed to be... So much for exclusivity.

It's a cell phone picture, could not do any better at the moment, here it is anyway.

I'll upload more pictures when I get a chance, I've also gotten a number of other new diecast which I've not posted.

These pics were made for photographic purpose , but they come in handy now :).

This is the same R8 as posted before I think. Only in white as you can see.
I've a few other models :

This Audi R8
Ferrari 599 (dark red)
Ferrari 599 Panamarica in blue
Bugatti Veyron 16.4 (Red-black)
Lamborghini Reventon
Lamborghini Gallardo (white)
Porshe 911 GT3
Ferrari Enzo (black)
Ferrari FXX
Jaguar E-type (red)
Jaguar E-type (yellow)
Jaguar E-type (green with racing decal)
Ford Mustang (Elenor)

Spared them together with my brother. All bought a long time ago. Haven't bought any new recently. The last one was the Veyron.

Wow you guys have some awesome models.

I loveeeeeeee model cars, I like to customize my own mostly.

I got a 1/18 Biante Ford Falcon and put custom Australian Federal Police decal stickers on it and put in custom head/tail lights and a custom emergency light bar for the roof and put led lights in them xD

The pic doesn't show it very well but the emergency light bar actually flashes in realistic patterns <3:

Just bought this beast today, its Peter Brock's 1997 Championship winning VS Commodore

And some shots of my two other metal models (SLS AMG from the Sig edition and F430 Scuderia). I have a Z-Tune, a Carrerra GT and a GT-Four rally car in plastic, the were built by me and are showing some age. And I used to have a lot of 1:18 Burago models when I was young, but the quality of them isn't too great, I don't have them any more. The V8 supercar however is top notch quality and attention to detail.

I´m not 100% sure I remember correctly, but I think that there was a mention in one of the newsletters I get from grandprixlegends.com, that AutoArt has their factory in China. I suspect that the more expensive makers, like BBR, make things inhouse - in BBR´s case in Italy.

Love that Brocky VS there Punk. I got the HSV VS GTSR and would happily trade for the Brock VS racer. The yellow has still to grow on me. lol

I so want some V8 Supercar diecast!!!

So today, on the side of building a toy organizer for my girlfriends nephew, I built this! 1/4" black ABS plastic for the track, 1/2" Arctic White Seaboard for the wall and the 31* angled back support. I used a sander to rough up the surface of all, used an old car ran through black spray paint to make tire marks as if the surface is worn in from racing, along with a few altercations with the wall. I used tape and china markers to make the yellow and white lines, then I called it done. The last step will be to drill a lot of little holes through which I can slip wire to secure cars by their suspension to the display. It's built mostly for 1/24th scale stock cars, but it can I guess be used with a 1/18th. That said I measured everything for a 1/24 so it looks a little odd with a bigger car. Anyhow, here it is.

Just like real IROC racing...

Now to 1:18 scale.
If SuperGT ran its own class in the 24hrs of Daytona :D?

Honestly one of my favorite race cars ever, and I'm not sure why, but I loved them from day one. Sebring winning CTS-V

These are older, but I've never shown them.
Dale Jr's 5 Talladega Raced Win cars.

Tony Stewart 2007 Bud Shootout at Daytona Raced Win Elite.

I like to collect the raced win cars the most, they show all the grime, tire marks, tape and all the other little things that make them much more fun to look at than a clean regular version.

So anyway, that is all, and if any GTP members want to get me a Mark Winterbottom 1:18th for Christmas, I'd greatly appreciate it

No seriously, I would.

I made my main racer undergo a yet another little setup change up front, just gotta buy some matching offset rears lol. And give it a decent deco vs me just messing around for 5 mins.

Question, Do you guys like to steer towards a particular brand? I haven't been out shopping in the longest time, I walked into Walmart yesterday and saw this pretty nice R/C 1:26 of a Murcielago SV... Then I suddenly grew the urge to go buy scale model cars (the ones already built and packaged all nice and pretty)... I'm just not sure where to look or which brand I should look out for, etc...

Is there a significant difference between brands?

And do any of you know any websites (you can recommend) where I can browse and shop for them (with Paypal)?

Personally I don't wanna get into 1/16,10,8s because they take serious outdoor space to use and the parts tend to cost a pretty penny + break on you. Also NOT a fan of custom battery packs (and FORGET nitro car mess) and using special chargers. That said, I went with Kyosho Mini-Z 1/28 cars for the sheer convenience. They also make bodies out of ABS plastic and pre-painted ones look no worse than model cars, but these can actually move so they get my vote. Check my earlier pix in this thread.

Else google/minizracer for more info or IM/PM me.

Christmas present from my fiancee (ex-now). One of the last few, hard to find, I was told that they've stopped production for these things. This one was hidden away by the dealer because other dealers were trying to snipe them and re-sell at their own dealership with mark-ups on the prices.

Beautiful sls there, great detail

Thanks. The only problem with this model is this:
dsc02955p.jpg

See the lack of detail? AutoART clearly kills Minichamps in this regard. However, this model does have a little 'button' underneath the car which raises the hood enough for you to get your finger under.

Otherwise I think in the end AutoART wins.

It's still a very nice looking model!

Yesterday, because it was hot and humid as hell outside, I spent the afternoon looking around on ebay. Ended up buying a Kyosho BMW Z4 Coupe in silver, and an AutoART Reventon, both in 1:18. Pictures to come. :)

Just hours after I bought these, my PS3 got the yellow light of death. :( This has been a pricey christmas.

Awesome, can't wait for the pictures, bad luck about the PS3 though :(

The wall looks pretty good, but for the road I'd recommend getting a piece of plywood, glue dark grey/black sandpaper on it (grit depending on the scale of the models being put in, usually medium grit works fine), stenciling on the lines you want - starting grids are awesome if you have several form the same sport/year, and then weathering it at will.
I've already done this myself a couple of times, and I can tell you it's pretty damn cheap, easy and the results are very convincing if done properly. 👍
