Also posted in the 1/24 scale model thread, but I had a quick question. Can you use flat white paint (in a spray can) as a primer/first coat?

I thought maybe a few here would know as well.

Got his model and ran. :P

It was kind of like a bitter-sweet parting gift. I had to go to the dealership to get it myself. She had to sweet talk the guy over the phone into selling it, it was hidden away and they struck it from their digital inventory.

Mercedes Dealerships around Australia were sniping them from this one dealership to re-sell them at marked up prices. This is because (as I was told) production had stopped and there was only a limited number remaining in the country. This was probably one of the last silver one's left.

The wall looks pretty good, but for the road I'd recommend getting a piece of plywood, glue dark grey/black sandpaper on it (grit depending on the scale of the models being put in, usually medium grit works fine), stenciling on the lines you want - starting grids are awesome if you have several form the same sport/year, and then weathering it at will.
I've already done this myself a couple of times, and I can tell you it's pretty damn cheap, easy and the results are very convincing if done properly. 👍

Finally some feedback! Thank you.

I actually don't care much for any of it now. Looking at the surface, it looks more like a drying track than something you would see stock cars on. Also the tire marks on the wall being inconsistent aren't making me happy either. not to say they ever are, I just mean the height of them. I do like the sand paper idea, just I'd never seen someone use gloss black ABS plastic before, and having had to sand it up to stop it from reflecting light at work, seeing what it looked like, I thought it may work out well. I think it was better before I rubbed it with black paint. I was going for rubbered in racing grooves.

I'm wanting to make a grid like display, that was my aim with this one actually. I have enough cars to pull off a convincing grid, but I don't know if I have the heart to weather them. Although, with the prices on GMB, I could take care of it on the cheap.

What if anything do you cover your displays with? I'm thinking clear plexiglass? Would you epoxy or use silicone to bond it, use wood trim around that? I'd think it would be hard to get dust out of sandpaper.

I used to go to a company near my house that built aquariums, gave them the specs for what I wanted and they did it for me; overall size, depth, number of shelves and spacing between them, and I always requested mirror backing (usually bronzed tone, I liked it that way). Everything always covered on all sides because of the dust thing, and as tight fit as possible. These aquarium guys are usually pretty good on this matter.

One of the dioramas I had showed part of a hairpin and I had all the brake marks done, the rumble strip inside I did with MDF cut to size, filed, sculpted and sandblasted to texturize it, paint, weather it and it's awesome. Grass on the inside, and on the outside I had the gravel trap. That diorama had three '93 DTM cars in it, pretty sweet thing, loved looking at it.
I weathered everything that I did; racing cars looked like they just finished an event, and the track or whatever looked like it had been raced on for many years. It's a major part in making stuff look realistic.

Also on the sandpaper/tarmac thing, after it's all properly glued and set, use a thin and blunt metal instrument to scrape and wear the grit in places to imitate grooves or different textures, so it doesn't look so "perfect" everywhere.

One of my final two arrivals of 2010, and also one heck of an AA. Considering the mold is around 7 years old, it has the same level of detail as newer AA's. Now I just need the AA Mazda MX5 retractable hardtop model... :D

And the other of my last two models of 2010, which also happens to be Japanese :P
Looks a LOT like the well known "Devil Z" from the Wangan Midnight series of manga/anime. Only real difference is the color and the front bumper lacks fog lights. Can tell it is a pretty old model (poor brakes and non functional suspension), but still is quite detailed. Anyway a couple pics:

I haven't bought any models for ages, but with AUTOart's Lexus LFA out soon and Mattel's (quite good looking) Ferrari 458 out now, I hope i'll start collecting again. My favourite models in my collection are my BBR Ferrari Enzo like this one:
http://www.motorsportcollector.com/BBR18Enzo.html
My AUTOart Veyron (red/black), and my two AUTOart Koenigseggs - orange and black. There's some very nice collections here though. 👍
Rage, that SLS looks really good actually. I think i'm going order either the red SLS or the 458 Italia. Can anyone recommend these models? Thanks.

Nice!
I need the AA Veyron and CCX sometime, but they are a bit pricey... Still gonna have to get them though. As far as the SLS and 458 go, I heard the 458 is quite good, comparable to any normal AA model. The SLS also looks good, but it lacks carpet iirc, and the engine isn't that great. I do want both sometime though.

Anyway I forgot to post pics of this one I got about a month ago...

Thanks, I think i'll order the 458. If you want the CCX and the Veyron, the Veyron is a slightly better model. It's heavier and seems more well built than the CCX. If you are getting the CCX, the orange version has improved detail over the black and silver versions so that's probably the best version to buy.
EDIT: My red 458 arrived today, and it was definitely worth it. It is by far the best Mattel ever in my opinion, and it looks perfectly fine sat next to AUTOarts and Kyoshos. If you are thinking about getting this model, I would recommend it, especially if you have a supercar collection.

Yeah, I already plan on getting the 458. Though, I want it in a color other than red lol. Wouldn't mind a yellow or black one...

As far as the Veyron goes, I want AA to release an all black one, cause I ain't a huge two-tone fan. And with the CCX, I wanted the black one since I also have a black 1/43 version, though I'd consider orange also since I don't have many orange models...

But for now, my next model is probably something a little more down to earth... an AA Mazda MX-5 Power Retractable Hard Top, which I need to finish off my Mazda Roadster collection. After that I might go for some more recent AA/Kyosho releases.

First and last model of 2010

Yeah I was thinking about the yellow one but to me, the red looked better so I went with that. It really suits the car. Oh, and about the Veyron, AUTOart has announced this:

Very nice!

I was thinking about getting the CMC SLR before, it looks like a very good model. If it's as good as the BBR Enzo, I might get one in the future.

Really? I would love to have the SLR, but they are quite expensive and also most of the colours I don't like. I think the silver and black versions are more expensive aren't they?

Hmm, I also want an SLR McLaren, but I haven't seen any from any of the sites I order from in a while. I remember when they first came out they were $189 USD...

Anyway I took some quick pics of my current display setup...

That is probably a bit less than half the models I currently have in my apartment, the rest are stashed in my closet. Also got quite a few back in California.

Well put it this way if the real car had it then the CMC will have it so if they real car has leather seats then the cmc will have leather seats,if the real car has a stainless steel exhaust system then the cmc will have a stainless steel exhaust system etc :)

IIRC the SLR's are now discontinued so are rather hard to find now :(

That 787 B is

Great models here. I have all the cars from the Rally Car Collection, 20 odd Scalextric cars, and a fair few models of Formula One cars.

Will post pics when I get them out of the box again.

So I'm starting my collection now lol....

Focusing on race cars right now but have the following on the way.

Hot Wheels Elite 599XX
Hot Wheels #16 Coca Cola F430
AUTOart Penthouse 997 GT3 Cup
AUTOart FR500C Grand Am GT Mustang
AUTOart Porsche RS Spyder (carbon finish)
AUTOart Porsche 996 GT3 RSR (white finish)
Kyosho Ferrari 575 GTC (red)

I'm bidding on a few more but this is the damage in the last 48 hours thanks to this thread lol and I'm not spending "new" or "msrp" prices, just really looking hard for the best prices possible. Have done a lot of reading on who makes the best version of what and going from there.

I'll work on my street cars eventually but it seems the race cars come and go more quickly so I'm trying to snatch those up before the disappear. Now if I can just find some '98 to '02 Viper GTS-R's with the liveries....

Nothing like 1:18 shopping while my B Spec Bob's grind it out in my X1 at level 39 for cash lol.

I'm bidding on a few others on egay and gomotorbids at the moment but nothing really strikes me too much as a phenomenal price, aside from the ones I have bids on.

That's quite a nice collection already! Good luck finding a Viper, apparently some versions are very rare.

Thanks you! I've found an '02 yellow ZAKSPEED Nur. 24hr (2002) for 75.00 but that's really the only one I've found. And I can't stand the newer gen race vipers.

First gen GTS-R at bottom... 👍 ?

Check the get it now on there daily, some goood deals can be had.

A local diecast shop in Daytona Beach offered me a Action 1:18 - T. Stewart, D. Earnhardt Jr., A. Wallace - Citgo Daytona Prototype for $140.00...

I LOLed and walked out. I've never seen them crest over $55.00 on GMB. That has to be criminal, or just wrong, because I know they want too much for the stuff they sell, and likely get it the same way I do, 5.00, 10.00 or maybe $40.00 at a time. They even wanted $2,000 USD for the Dale Earnhardt Sr. 1997 Daytona 500 roll over damaged Monte Carlo. Absolutely insane, I'd never pay that much, not even for the 1/12th ceramic version. Mine was roughly 1,890 dollars less, and just as good. Sorry to go on and on... Some people are just asking too much, for, not that much.

Very nice collection Venom. May I ask where you get most of yours from? Do you have to order internationally? I hardly ever come across LMP cars...

Thank you....from a Ford block fan to a Chevy block fan (Guessing by the LSX screen name) lol. I'm putting a bid on it. With that said I really want the Vipers with the liveries so if you see any and don't want them yourself, send the links my way. Thanks in advance. :P

Funny story too about the Action 1:18...even being a newb to this hobby I would have done the same lol.

I like Chevy motors, just in other manufacturers cars.

Yeah, sometimes the Auto Art Speed World Challenge Viper's show up for under $30.00 get it now. Lot's of cars on there weekly.

Shipping is a bit steep there, so it pays to buy more at once, it won't really go up much even if you buy so many cars they come in two boxes. You get 7 days to pay, so you can keep shopping and sniping.

Thanks for the tips man. I'm a fan of LSx's in other cars too. Buddy and I just got done before winter putting an LS2 into his Miata....good times will be had next spring in AutoX.

Now that you mention it, shipping is a bit much there, but the prices are still pretty darn good.

Again thanks for the tips. Will start posting pics when they start getting here. The FR500 Mustang and Penthouse GT3 Cup should be here tomorrow :)
