You should definitely (if you plan on building more and make them look neat) think on getting an airbrush. A decent one that does the job well is quite inexpensive these days, especially on eBay or something of the sorts, and it will make a world of difference on the quality of the finish you end up with.
Plus, they're a lot less messy and don't waste as much paint as spraying straight from a can.

When you get the hang of it (which is pretty straightforward for most parts), you'll enjoy the whole building process a lot more and give more value to the work you're doing (as will everyone else). 👍

EDIT: Is this thread for already assembled stuff only (diecast), or is it ok for me to post pictures of my kit models in here? I also have quite a few still waiting in the box that I'd like to show here. Thanks.

I wouldn't say they're a lot less messy. With a spray can you just spray, but with an airbrush you need to mix the paint and paint thinner, spray and after that clean the airbrush.

And there's a 1/24 model kit thread, so I think you could post it there.

I meant messy in the sense that the overspray isn't as pronounced as with the can.

You're right, I totally forgot there's a thread for 1:24 kit thread. 👍

My must buys at the 24H of Spa 2011:

Notice the blue and red hubs on the 2000 GT :) All 1:43 All 8 Euro except the Subaru which was 17 Euro.

I need your help. I have in my posession a 1:12 Nissan Skyline GTR R32 not far from being completed. It's a kitset released by Fujimi a veeery long time ago. I have been slowly working on it for 4 years. I need a set of wheels for it. I cannot decide what ones to go with. I'm asking you all if you wish to partake on this little challenge, send me pics of rims that I could use. remember 1:12 scale. 1:10 scale rc rims would be too cartoonish. search "m-chassis" that should bring some results.

Yes I shall get some pics up soon of the build. I know everyone loves progress pics haha

Just brought two 1:18 scale diecasts, the Aventador and R8GT. The former from Bburago and the latter from Maisto. Are the brands any good?

I wanted to go with AUTOart but the prices were two much after what I've already spent.

Considering the price of both brands, they are pretty good. Of course they are in a total different league than AutoArt but that is expected.

I remember when I was 16 I bought the Ferrari F40 from Bburago. Just as in real life the price of the scale model car trippled :) Awesome car. Very easy to mod.

Bburago and Maisto are entry level manufacturers. They are OK, much better quality now then years past. I used to buy them in the past but since I started buying Autoart's and Kyosho's, along with a few other high quality models the entry level versions just don't cut it for me. But not everyone can justify spending $100 to $150+ on a single model.

Autoart or Kyosho and other $100+ diecast are geared more for the collector or for someone who want the absolute best representation. The level of detail and quality of these brands will never be found in the entry level brands.

If you class autoart and kyosho as the best representation how would you rank CMC/BBR/Exoto ;)

Was just in modelzone in Glasgow and they had the autoart bugatti atlantic for £250 or the CMC one for £300 I know what I would have.

Also bought a CMC 1961 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Passo Corto SWB Competizione when I was there too :)

I never said that there weren't more high quality manufacturers out there and it doesn't get much better than CMC, BBR, and Exoto. But dollar for dollar, you just can't beat Autoart and their selection.

Hey guys! I hope you guys excuse me jumping in here, but I couldn't think of better group of guys to seek help from on this one.

I was going thru some old toys today, just preparing for housecleaning sale soon. I bumped into so many models & figures & stuff I didn't even know I had! I was able to research the going price online for everything except one: 1987 Satoru Nakajima Lotus car by Minichamps

I've looked everywhere, but I can not find a ballpark value on this thing, at least not for the 1/18 scale. I think there were couple of 1/43(?), and they were going for decent amount of change. I'd appreciate any tip or info. Thanks in advance. :)👍

Keep it. You will regret selling it. I think these 1/18 series are pretty rare. My wife gave me a Senna 1/18 McLaren as a birthday present. I would never ever sell such a car.

To be honest, it has become my favorite model. Period. But I do still want to find out how much it's worth, and if it's a lot more than I actually paid for the model, I think I can invest towards something else. :D

I appreciate the input though. Thanks. 👍

P.S. I tried googling again, and still no luck!
P.P.S. Love your car, too.

Can I ask how Minichamps and IXO 1:43 scale models are for quality. In terms of prices they are within my budget (around £25-£40 each, or $40-$65). They seem decent from what I've seen and certainly are the kind of car I would like.

I picked this model up about a week ago. It's a 1:76 scale Dennis Dragon KMB bus.

This is my amazing collection so far :sly:. the Primera and Vectra I got at the Silverstone classic last year, but I recently decided to start collecting model cars properly. The Benetton was bought from ebay the other day, and I've also bought a 1/43 Jordan 197 earlier this evening :)

EDIT: for those who don't know too much about F1 cars, here it is:

As shortly as possible, I'll likely start collecting models (1:43 mostly, though some 1:18) of Endurance Racers, mainly LM cars (of all eras, old and new). So, none of the following are mine, but are merely the sort of thing I'll be intending on collecting. :)

These are all 1:43 scale IXO models, at £37 each. They actually do all the winners from all the years (1923-present), but to buy every one would be ~£3200!

And finally here's two gems I found (both 1:18 and both way out of my budget). The first is a signed copy of the winning 2009 Peugeot 908 HDi FAP, the second is nothing fancy, just beautiful.

Well, I'm never googling for "old bentley race" again. *ahem* Is that a old Bentley race car at the bottom? What a beauty. 👍 I like the Mazda, too, but I'm also very impressed with the Gran Turismo GT-R & the Lexus LFA in the post before that.

Who am I kidding, from that lime green Lambo to Ferrari 250, they are all pretty darn impressive!

bonobo4, what 1:18 models are those, are they IXO?

So, I may have Googled that term because I was curious what came up, and yeah... ahem. But that is an old Bentley race car, it's a Bentley Blower, one of the supercharged Bentley 4.5 Litres from the late 1920s-early 1930s. Beautiful car, that is.

You are right. Everything in that post is by IXO. Them and Minichamps have an excellent collection of LM cars that I want.

That last one was 1:18 Bentley 4.5L "blower", from 1930. It is an absolute beauty I'll admit, however that particular model is £220 (~$350), way out of my budget.

^ Really nice looking car.

Going to an oldtimer event saturday, the Bentley Speed Six is confirmed (out of 150ish cars), hopefully there will be more surprises.
