Very nice models. I don't have any, but I feel big respect for them because one of those was the thing that got me into all that car stuff. In 3rd grade for X-mas in school I got a Burago model of mk3 mk4 Golf that you had to assemble by yourself, after that I started to love cars :)

Found a picture!

Sadly I lost it a long time ago, but now seeing all the models you guys have, I think I should visit the toy section in the mall (this is where they keep all the cool stuff)

The only place where I can find these things in the store is the other side of the country as far as I know.

I live near Exoticar, now known as Hollywood Model Cars. I bought much of my collection from Peter when he was having his seasonal sales. I don't know if he still owns the franchise or not but now I buy 95% of my models off the internet, eBay specifically.

So, to bring this thread back up again, my first model has arrived!

Sorry about the crappy quality, my camera is in need of a replacement.

Congratulation!! Very nice choice for your first 1:18th scale diecast. I recommend that you pick up a single car display case for it. It beats having to constantly dust it.

If you think that you will be adding more diecast in the future then perhaps you will want to invest in a multicar display.

The 12 car display cases run about $100. I'm thinking about get a few of them so I can display the rest of my cars.

I got this:

And stripped it down completely:

Got it for like 10 bucks and came with a display case which is usually sold for 10 bucks on its own so it was a pretty good deal. The previous owner had painted it in matte black and it could have been done better, the paint felt very rought and had a few imperfections. What I decided to do is paint it gloss black. I have started by removing the body parts and sanding. When sanding I discovered that the original paint had not been sanded off so that is probable a factor as to why it didn't have a very good outcome. What I'll do is sand it all down, put some primer, gloss black, and done. While I'm at it I'll think about adding some details like decals, I just don't know how to make them.

Good deal, it looks like a UT 993 turbo. The UT Porsche 993 turbos sell for good money, $100 to $150, on eBay.

Do you know what the original color was?

Just got my 1:43 Mazda 787B, Toyota GT-One, and Nissan R390 GT1 today. :D They're beautiful, all with matching cases. I'll get some pictures uploaded today.

Nah it's a cheaper one, an anson, I hope no one does that to a UT model. Sanding and the back Of the door revealed that the original color was dark red, which i suspect was not even slightly sanded before being painted over. I'll post some pictures of the sanded down car later

EDIT: After some sanding, you can see the original arena red color and the primer that was used:

Shame it was repainted, would have been nice to re-create this ad:

So I'm almost finished sanding down the car:

Today I painted the brake rotors because I didn't like the chrome look. The newly painted ones are on the left:

I also painted the suitcases that are in the trunk, IMO they look much better now that when they were just plastic colored (gray-ish beige)

Sorry about double post, but there has been no activity lately. I come here to ask you people what you think looks best:

Or this:

Both would have the brake discs BTW, and the non-riginal wheel would be repainted if chosen. I just wanted to do something different from the normal wheels which I really don't like that much but I can't seem to find nice wheels that fit the car anywhere for sale individually.

I was thinking about picking up a couple of new die cast cars the other day, but I realized that I know next to nothing about the various companies that make these die cast cars. So my question to all you collectors is, what are a few brands that typically have good quality die cast cars? I have heard that AutoArt and Kyosho both produce high quality and accurate models. Are there any other companies that's like that, or better? I have a few Maisto cars, but my experience with been pretty mediocre...

Maisto is much worse than AutoArt and Kyosho. Another good brand is Minichamps but I think they mostly make 1:42 scale cars.

I'm no expert at these things but BBR looks very nice from what I've seen, but it doesn't come cheap.

Any thoughts on the kind of detail of Hot Wheels Elite?

The detail is great on the 3 hot wheels elite Ferraris I have. The windowns are plastic instead of glass though, which might be a plus or a minus depending on how you look at it. The wheels and tires on my F430 are a bit oversized compared to the real thing IMO but other than that impressive detail, and many times cheaper than AUTOart or Kyosho. There's also super elite models but I don't have one so I can't really tell you how they are.
Yeah the BBR models are usually expensive, so are 1/18 minichamps usually, even though I've seen some very detailed and expensive AUTOarts. CMC also makes some good quality models

Thanks Motortrend, I've seen some Ferrari Hot Wheels Elite on sale so was just wondering.

Some of the HWE models are pretty nice, especially the new 599 GTO. Others aren't worth their asking price. Kyosho made much nicer Ferraris for less than the HWE and are 10x better.

It's really too bad that Kyosho can't make Ferrari models for less than $100 any longer. All new Kyosho Ferrari seem to be listing for $150 to $200+

does anyone know where I can find an Audi R10 1:18 besides eBay? I have been having a difficult time finding one. Thank you for any help.

Modelissimo.de has some 1:18

2006 model (made by Spark)

2009 model (made by Norev)

Both around 50€, the 2009 winner is 99, but it might be a pricy sending cost to the US
